I feel as you do, db1. I wear Daytonas because I like them, no matter how accurate they are. No one I run into regularly knows any better. And I have a "vintage" model coming.

I received this watch this week. I purchased it from Daytona4Me on RWI as part of his "group buy." $122 shipped via EMS. It has the 21J Asian movement. Everything else about the watch is supposed to be the same as the ETA model, which was about $110 more. Shipping was slow because in his group buys he waits until he has orders for 5 watches to keep the price down. The first watch arrived week before last. The clasp fell apart and I could not get the pin to stay in. Also, I scratched the bezel with the razor I used to cut the plastic tape off the bubble wrap. That's never happened before. Greg replaced the watch outright. Nice of him to do so. This is the 40mm new Milgauss with green sapphire, as the title indicates. The older model was 36mm. I have one Evergreen gave me but I've never worn it. I showed it to my wife and told her she could have it, but she thought it looked "dorky." What does she know? The green is quite noticeable at certain angles. At other angles, you can just see the green around the edge of the crystal. This clasp was fine, if a little stiff to open. The clasp on the one EG gave me pops open with very little pressure. I was afraid it would fall off if I wore it. Couple of extra dial shots: Old and new, for size and crystal comparison: The dial printing on the older ETA version is crisper and has a better overall feel for quality. Wristy: How much it will be worn remains to be seen. Not really a dress watch. Not really a sport watch. A science guy watch?

Should be faux only at the hour subdial at 6:00 as it will be slaved to the hour hand. These handwind SeaGulls-copy (or whatever) are bicompax. Josh and Andrew sell one with the needle at 6:00 frozen, but the watch is only 37mm. True to the gen size but too small for me.

I'm still waiting to see if it's for the wife, or the gf.

I gave up on it when my winder started breaking. Only 2 out of 5 winders still work. The only ones that need much manual winding are the 7750's. My peeve is the two that have developed an issue with the crown. When I screw it back down it engages and flips over the date. My Invicta 9937 (gen. ETA) has done this for a year and now my SSD is doing it. Very annoying.

I've taken most of my watch pictures with my little Fuji Finepix F11. 6 megapixels and an excellent macro mode. I shoot my shots at 2 mp. 10 or 12 is unnecessary. Because it's so small, it's easy to handhold and so I rarely dig out my tripod and Nikon DSLR. These aren't "fine art" shots, but they're fast and easy, and decently good. My camera is an old model. New models will force you to buy 10+ mp. Again, overkill. Look around the site Pug linked. Read up a bit. Also, I have an inexpensive copy of Photoshop Elements. Easy to resize, crop, color correct, and has a fantastic ability to sharpen pics w/very natural look.

Hopefully the bezel numbers will appear thicker in person. I'm also wondering about the lume color of the markers. I look forward to the pics!

I doubted it was the same guy. The hat seems different and from what I know of polar bears, he would likely be dead if he was caught. One wonders about the camera man. Hopefully he was using a long lens and shooting out of a tank, or he would be next.

Decided to wear the GMT-II C today: Sigh. Wish it was that sunny again. We've had 4 straight days of fog. High pressure system sits over the state and pushes the storms up into Washington and Oregon. We saw the sun for an hour yesterday. We usually don't get this kind of weather until Jan/Feb. Very dreary.

Think next time he'll get in the truck?

BK fixed a crooked date wheel on a watch of his that I bought from another member. Pretty good service. And he's CONUS.

I've owned 5 watches with GMT hands. The first one, an $85 21J cheapie, didn't run well at all, at first. I became frustrated and tossed it in the watch box. A couple of months later I pulled it out and it ran flawlessly 98% after that. The only other one I've had a problem with is my correct handstack GMT-II Ceramic. The GMT hand runs fast, very fast. But the rest of the watch keeps excellent time, it looks great, and I don't really need the GMT function anyway. The other 3 worked without flaw. The problem with GMT watches is the basic movement must be modified to run the GMT hand as they are not true GMT movements. The modifications make them prone to functional problems. Your story is not par for the course, though. Sounds like you just got a dud.

Yellow is too, well, garnish for winter, so I installed the black band on my Picot. Pics were taken under a full spectrum reading lamp. Most were taken with my little Fuji Finepix F11, small pic size, 100-200 iso, and 2.8 or 3.2 F stop. A couple were taken with the Nikon D80 and my 18-200 zoom. Auto iso. First, a "full frontal" (don't Bin the thread! ) Some dial closeups. Nice texture on the dial and excellent contrast between the black dial and yellow hands. Pushers: Case side: The case back. (I have number 208 out of 500. ) The requisite wrist shot: As it has been said many times, this is one of the best replicas of 2008. It is extremely went made. The movement seems solid and can barely be heard with arm movement. I have to shake the watch 4 inches from my ear to hear it. Hand winding is as smooth and easy as most ETA's. The only flaws are the recessed date wheel (I'm told) and the overpowering "vanilla" smell of the bands, at least for me they're too stinky. Others don't mind it. A shot of it on the yellow band:
