Congratulations, a good buy! Looks like a nice movement. I guess it has 18 jewels... Judging by the text on the bottom "18KAMHEN" I also have a Molinja pocketwatch. A fine watch, but it ticks very loud and they are not shock-resistent. Good luck with your project.

Interesting.. I must have missed this post about supisious "ETA" movements 10 months ago... I am monitoring an online auction where this movements is advertised as ETA.. It has the same [censored] engravings on the rotor, but obviously it has the ETA-engravings under the balance wheel, and a proper regulator... By the way... What is the story behind the "1940 S.A."??

Nice review and a good-looking watch, even though I belive that "white hands on white dial" might not be ideal for easy readability during space missions.. This is the usual Asian Automatic movement??

Very nice Air-King. That is in fact my favourite Rolex, classy, clean look and understated. Interesting to see that the "Precision" text-font is with serfis. I would suggest that you stick to soap, water and toothbrush, and avoid polish and abrasive methods.. This is my rep Air-King. Silver dial with smooth bezel. It does in fact have the same shine as the gen, but it isn't visible in the picture:

12 Year Old Boy Gets 1000 Euro Fine For Buying Fake Rolex
chrgod replied to chrgod's topic in The Rolex Area
The article tells that the Italian police earns big money by fining tourists who buys replicas... The street dealers are mostly left alone, since there are no money to confiscate.. But far-away-from-home tourists are sure happy to pay a grand or two for getting off the hook. According to the article, the limit for the fine is 10000 Euro... -
I received a little shock when I went to the local store today... A picture of a young boy and a rather bad blue-faced Submariner-replica is gracing the front page of Norways biggest newspaper, VG.. A 12 years old boy on journey in Italy with his class, buys a Rolex replica in Firenze and is nicked by the police during a razzia on the market. He and one of his friends are arrested by the police and only released from custody when the teacher agrees to sign that they accept a fine of 1000 Euro each.. : The story goes that the boy did not have a watch, but had borrowed his fathers Swatch.. When they arrived in Firenze he saw lot of nice watches on the market at St. Lorenzo plaza, and bought the Rollie for 18 Euro.. One of his friends managed to conceal his own fake Rollie by hiding it in his underpants! The boys family have contacted the Norwegian embassy in Rome, and hopes to get the fine cancelled. Inside in the paper, there is a pic of a genuine Yacht-Master and the posters in Firenze, warning against purchasing fakes..

I ordered two of Andrews cheap Asian vintage Rollies for some friends of mine. These should be well known, but nevertheless here are some pictures. First is the GMT-Master with black-red bezel. A solid, classic pilot watch. It fits well with my vintage USAF A-2 jacket: Nice stainless steel watch, great overall quality feel. Too yellow markers for my taste and tiny date-mag... And it has a triplock crown. But, in all, nice and great service from Andrew as always! We all know the Pan Am connection with the GMT-Master, dont we? DRSD: Nice, matte black dial. Grey, rather than white script and closed 6 and 9s. Excellent crown guards! The famous "Robot watch" engraving, but my friend whom I ordered it for doesn't mind. The movement in the DRSD: Interesting to see the slots in the rotor and purple wheel, to make it more Rolex-like... Instant date-change. I counted it to be six seconds/day too fast: According to the "WO" logo under the balance wheel, it is a Seagull- movement. All in all two nice watches, not MBW quality but very nice.

I have actually seen a rep of the "Gulf-style" Monaco on eBay... Ask one of the chineese sellers, I am sure they can get it.
-
Davs! from Norway! Quite a few scandinavians around here. I agree with you on the Panerai fever.. They are nice, but not THAT special.... I prefer more the traditional brands. Guess the Pannie-thing is more of an US-bug.

Genuine for me this week... My newly aquired Seiko 6138-0011.. A big 44mm chunck of steel with 12 hours chronograph, day and date... No running seconds counter A real vintage automatic chronograph for the price of a cheap Asian rep... 1974 model, one year older than me.

Deleted, double posting.
-
The never ending story.... I am glad that I never really participated in the RWG-watch thing. Keep the Norwegian chicks out of this... We keep them to ourselves.
-
TRL... Thin Red Line (on the back of the watch)... this was a reference to one of the most famous posts on RWG1. It was discussed through several weeks whether a real Rollie should have a sticker with a TRL..
-
Why not Quartz? No more winding, accurate timekeeping, takes a beating and keep on ticking... Quartz, the choice of the new replica-generation... In fact, one of the very few Rolexes I have not seen a rep of, is the Rolex Oysterquartz..
-
Most important.... The rep is missing the TRL.. Nice comparison Mahler!
-
You mean those new ones, with the fancy wave-pattern on top..?? Yes, I am also looking for those...

Silix is the place for cheap, odd replicas: Tudor: http://www.silixwatch.com/class.asp?aid=37&nid=117 This Tudor looks well done, and so uncool, that it is almost cool... Tissot: http://www.silixwatch.com/class.asp?aid=36&nid=108 Tissot T-touch exist as replica, but ... The touch function cant be replicated..

The big question is: Are the workers who convert the movements to "original-looking" style as skilled as the workmen who makes the stock ETA's ...? Who knows..?

Joshua's Sub Modifications Are Not Done By Joe
chrgod replied to TJGladeRaider's topic in The Rolex Area
Check out the subs on Joshuas webpage, perfect-clones.com, and you will see the mods he offers. They are included and listed on his most expensive Submariner... -
Just some thoughts on the mods' done to the 'original-looking' ETA movement.. I belive that it has been disassembled, rose-polished, added some engravings and cut-outs and some of the gears switched with red ones.. then assembled again.. God knows how well they clean and lubes it.. All this thinkering with an ETA that works perfectly fine out of the box cannot be healty to the movement.. Unless the Chineese workmen are as skilled as The Zigmeister...

This has actually been one of the most entertaining posts in a while... It is going down as a classic!
-
Very very nice... Good work on the CGs. That crown is the final touch!
-
Actually....When talking about misleading advertising... What about this one from Trusty. Advertised as : Best vintage series of Rolex ever made. Thick plexi Glass crystal like genuine vintage Rolex. Case and dial made 1:1 like the genuine version... Nice glass, and a vintage bracelet...but those crown guards and the pearl??? Arrest me if I am wrong, but to me this just screams fake.. But, Trusty is a good dealer. I have had several good deals with him. http://www.trustytime.com/index.php?main_p...products_id=561 A Submariner 6200 should look something like this:
-
I understand your view... But there is some sort of satisfaction knowing that the movement is nicely rose-polished and engraved, even if you dont see it every day. And, you can pop the caseback and have a real show-off to your friends! But, as I said, I now go for the stock-ETA. The refined movement does not even recemble the real thing.

Thanks Guys! @pugwash: You learned me a new google fuction...
