  1. Another great post, Anton! You're becoming legendary. Let's see...theme...socialite...too pretentious...maybe just right though...still...don't want to come right out and say it. How about: Early Grande Dame A combination of power-watches which overwhelm when they have to, but flirty and fun. I'm sorry, that's the best I can do for a collection of (since last night) 66 watches. If you can find a theme name for that, let me know.
  2. I knew there was a reason I liked you, Dluddy! We Saabish people have to stick together.
  3. GET OUT! Are we always on the same wavelength, Kru?? I just this moment, this very nanosecond ordered: It was either that, or the Conquistador Curvex above (was that you or Corgi who suggested I get the Conq one day?). Andrew himself swayed me in favour of the Crazy Hours (requested a white strap as in the gen). He said, and I quote: "The Crazy Hours is a cool watch. =)". Good enough for me! I searched for hours on the Franck Muller website trying to pick out the flaws. Not too many, actually. The hands are less bluey, perhaps. The numerals not quite so tall. Very decent rep for the price. EDIT: Compare gen (pricetag, Retail $19,800/ Site, $13,900...). hxxp://www.essentialwatches.com/listing_detail.asp?brandID=13&classificationCount=12&itemID=12261 One day, after I get his permission, I'll reveal what watch he himself wears, of all his reps!! I always wondered about that.
  4. Ooh, sounds awful. Thank God Ryyannon and I never got into that racket.
  5. Hello. The entire country of Brazil during carnival -- ESPECIALLY Rio. Try to get something done the week preceeding Ash Wednesday, I dares ya. BTW, you Americans have a lot more holidays than I remember as a child in England. Frankly, we used to enjoy having the Queen Mum around, since my kiddie school would take half-day off to serenade her at Clarence House. A WHOLE HALF-DAY! God, I miss her. *pours G&T on the floor in memory*
  6. Andrew and I are emailing each other as we speak, and he confirms your 4 October date, Ken. But he called it "National Day".
  7. East Coast or West Coast, I wonder.
  8. I dunno. I kinda like it! It's like doing the Funky Chicken on meth. Meth also helps in choosing the appropriate clothing.
  9. Upon looking up which watch Richard Gere was wearing in American Gigolo (turns out, it was the Piaget Protocole in blue face, FYI), I was stunned to find he favours a rather discrete marque, the Wyler Vetta. (Caption: "The truly important thing is inner beauty") As you can see, he is the spokesman for the Swiss watchmakers (around since 1896) who've pledged donating 30 Euros for every watch sold in Italy, France and Switzerland to the Healing the Divide Foundation. Gere established this Foundation to combat the various ailments of society today, such as "health, illiteracy, ignorance, intolerance, injustice". As he puts it, "The time is now to bring that world into being!" (why is there always a watch pun?), and the kindly watchmakers have decided to match that spirit with the equivalent of an RWG Membership. Seriously, though, full marks for at least trying, Mr. Gere. I'm sure everytime P. Diddy plonks down 50Gs for his Jacob & Co. watches, they don't even set aside a fiver for the kids of Harlem to learn how to read better. What other causes or ad campaign issues do you know are supported by watch companies? Has this ever influenced you, or made you think about buying said watch?
  10. But this made me laugh.
  11. GASP!! ME TOO!! ...freaky, Admin, freaky. P.S.: Just before that though, I was listening to the Manhattan Transfer's "Route 66" -- don't forget Winona!
  12. I'm no IWC expert, TrueImage, but this screams fantasy-watch to me, not gen. It's like they started with a Mark XVI idea, mixed in some Ingy Chrono, added the the Aquatimer Automatic feel...and perhaps gave it Cartier Pasha Seatimer lugs for fun... I'd be very interested to see if this is a real IWC watch, because it's such a design afterthought, in a marque which OOZES class and SOLIDNESS.
  13. Cartier is a flawless marque. And the Santos perhaps the best designed watch of all time. Classic. I was of course kidding about the Roadster. I almost bought one last night (went with the Panthere and classic Tank), but I HIGHLY encourage you to get the Santos. PM if you need any tips. Night!
  14. Freely you have received, freely give. (Matt 10: Whether New Testament or Koran, we are all enjoined to give. It's the most rewarding part of belief.
  15. Great watch, awesome strap...BUT...what the HECK is an Erotik fair??? Is this where middle-aged men stand around getting cast copies of Jenna Jamesons' private parts autographed? Wow! Fun. Seriously, though, have a great time HELMUT! @Hambone: I can't believe you actually are wearing that Panerai. I thought for sure you'd stick with the Assioma for a month SOLID.
  16. WOW CONGRATS! Why not change total tack and buy yourself a Cartier Roadster?
  17. I have a problem with that -- I hate homeopathic remedies or anything which smells of "nature's own healing". It's a reaction to my mother's German 'Naturkind' ethos. Not that I'm not grateful to you, Hambone! Or to the innumerable people who have kindly PMed me with suggestions, or good wishes. But though I hate being on prescription drugs (HATE!), the ones the docs prescribed are actually helping me out tremendously. Doxy is really quite good, and though I'm convinced it's urticaria not acne, I'm clearing up daily more and more. HOWEVER, I will say this. The papaya may come in handy for clearing up any scars left behind, so thanks for that. In unrelated news, in Cuban slang, papaya is a bad word, and they use Fruta Bomba for it instead. Apparently, it means a woman's pudenda. If you've ever seen one open, you'll understand why. (Except I'm not raven-haired...)
  18. Done! I mentioned in the Shoutbox how I was dawdling in clearing it. Sorry, DET11. ;(
  19. I don't know. It's like asking why one would want a Volkswagen instead of a Rolls-Royce if given a chance to buy either/or. Both get you from point A to point B, so functionality is not in question. I'm sure Invicta is a fine marque. But if their designs are so obviously knock-offs of better known timepieces, one is left wondering -- why? To me, the answer is obvious. Because one can't afford the Rolex on which it is based. Remember, most of us who frequent these rep watch forums are looking for replica watches of elite marques. There are many reasons for that, but one reason MUST surely be we want to look like we have the real thing -- else we'd stick to Invicta or Geneva watches, right? The why is complicated. Snobbery. Quality (snigger). Being associated with the best. The elegant lines of a finely crafted watch. Many reasons. P.S.: Don't own any Invictas. But I do own a Caravelle (by Bulova, IIRC) Tank knock-off of a Cartier Tank. It's a GREAT watch. Flawless mechanism. Looks awesome. But I never wore it again after I finally bought my Cartier Tank.
  20. Fun and Communism go together like nuclear blast and carnival. Now anarcho-syndicalism is a riotous time had by all.
  21. Blimey, she was 80, CANADIAN and lived in Oz?? This is information overload. Still, RIP. I loved her sexy give-and-take with Sean Connery a lot. P.S.: Since my boyfriend is Canadian, I always tease him since Canadians go around saying, "Mary Pickford, yep she was Canadian. Kim Cattrall? Canadian. Louis B. Mayer, Canadian lad"...if someone was remotely connected to Canada, they pipe up and claim them. So I'm sure he's already heard of Miss Moneypenny having passed. Coincidentally, I just learnt that Melissa Sue Anderson, who played Mary Ingalls in Little House on the Prairie you recall, and her entire family became naturalised Canadian citizens on Canada Day (1 Jul) of this year. WTF! I wonder if she's seen that Canadian show, "Little Mosque on the Prairie"...
  22. Well, it's amongst the best Panerai photos I've EVER seen on these Wristies. Congrats, and I hate you, in no special order.
  23. I'm replying to this because, due to this thread, I now pronounce Pugwash 'Puh-wah' in my head. Thanks a lot.
  24. LONG, but yes, not uncommon. It took about 35 days for me to receive an ostrich strap from Waccex once. That was after the first one went totally missing. Markus resent it very kindly. Hope it works out, Stephane.
  25. Holy Guacamole with Christ on a bike! That's a beautiful combo of PVD PAM on a perfect strap. WHAT is it?
