FYI, I do believe you need to retap the case for his tube before installing the crown. Not that this is rocket science or anything, but something you all might not be aware of.

Step 1: Obtain a strong magnifier so you can see what you're doing!! And that's the extent of my input on the subject.

I have been fascinated with watches ever since I was a kid. I received a Casio chronograph at some point in elementary school as a birthday gift, and from that point on I was always looking for "the next great watch" . Of course in high school I had to have Don Johnson's watch on Miami Vice (showing my age), until I figured out that it cost several thousands. If memory serves, it was a solid yellow gold day date. At that time I did find a serviceable canal street rep that passed well enough, though.

Just received a 16610 modern black/silver bezel insert for an upcoming franken... Question to those who have seen these inserts (this is my first time using this parts source)... Do your bezels have sort of a hole through them that you can see on the backside where the pearl is?

You can use the dremel sanding drum (1/4" I think) and start with 120 grit paper and work your way up to finer and finer grits as you fine tune... Or you can use files as others have mentioned.

I'd probably recommend doing the CGs by hand rather than by dremel. It can take longer but making an irreversible mistake is much more difficult.

I was in an AD last night, and Ubi's pictures look about right in comparison to what I saw on their subs. And by the way, as it turns out, the gen crystal is 2mm thick.

By how much (roughly) does the crystal protrude above the bezel on yours? Like 50% of the total thickness? 25%? Just a ballpark.

Could someone in the midst of modding a 16610 (modern) submariner do me a favor and measure the thickness of their crystal? I'm trying to order a custom crystal for a sub (which I don't have in hand) and can't do the measurement myself. Thanks in advance!!

So if you had to guess would you say it's 3mm thick? I'm going to order a custom sapphire crystal with loose magnifier so it can be installed just right. It'll either be 2.5mm or 3mm. Unfortunately I don't have the watch that it's going into in hand so can't measure it myself.

That datemag looks perfect Ubi. BTW, are you able to provide a crystal thickness measurement? It may be too much to ask, I know. But I think it should be either 2.5 or 3mm

I think I would drill a little bit of a countersink into the side of the case where the crown tube goes, and reinstall the tube. The crown should then screw down flush to the case if I'm picturing it correctly.
