  1. R.I.P. indeed. NOt to sound tacky, but is it too early to talk about possible foul play? I mean first she loses a lawsuit which in turn results in having a will overturned and leaving her out in the cold. Than she challanges up to the supreme court and wins an appeal that enables her to take the issue back to the lower courts. But before she can challange agian, her son (and beneficiary?) dies of an "accidental" overdose. Than SHE dies under suspicious circumstances. Is there anyone left to challange the court's ruling, or does the $470MM left by her husband just go to his estranged family? You cound not make this stuff up.
  2. .. i know which of TJGladeRaider 's is my favorite...
  3. no worries.. the watch is gorgeous up front and personal too... you will be very happy with it
  4. point taken... EXCEPT!!! you could wear a rep as your dialy beater and save the patek for those oh so special occassions, like when you are taking your honey out for a night doin' the Hucklebuck or better yet to the skating rink!! Once she sees that bad boy on your wrist, you won't be hearin' "I'll kiss ya latah -- I'm eating a potatah" Alright, so I am streaching it a bit.l
  5. who said it has to be a daily beater? I would just love to have one.
  6. I really like that one.. the others give you "a lot of watch" for the money, but the first one is really cool looking.
  7. Fine point.. IMO the date mag is probably ok, it is likely the rehaut and the chrystal that cause the distortion on the datewheel. I only mention b/c if that is true, the condition is not correctable with the case provided. Still it is a great watch for the money if the movement is truly an ETA. If not, you might also want to check out the noobmariner from TTK and others.
  8. "... zip, zip, the modern way..."
  9. you forgot to mention that the world is 6000 years old and that we co-existed with dinosaurs. Fred Flinstone was a real dude.
  10. That is a fair and level headed assessement, but as I am sure you know, this is not necessarily a level-headed hobby for everyone. People mod, or have their wathces modded, because they enjoy doing so.. they see the modding process and associated cost as being a part of the "collector" experience. It is no more rational than lot's of other activites collectors undertake. In that it is proably a more visceral thing for people, I am not sure the motivation and satisfaction derived by these people can necessarily be explained in terms of weather or not it is worth it. I have thought about it and may yet do some stuff but at present I am having a hard time with the "it is not worth it" thing myself. Still, whatever floats your boat.
  11. American GI's are actually trained to drive throught the streets of Bagdad that way. The idea is to not brake and to move along at constant speed so as to reduce the chances of being picked off by Rockets and/or snipers. The humvees are really not ideal vehicles in terms of providing safety to occupants It is more sad than funny... and the drviers are certainly not ignorant. They are meerely trying to protect themselves.
  12. remind me never to pi$$ you off. 5'8 approx 190 pretty muscular but not in your league 36" waist 46" cheast, 6 3/4 to 7 in wrists. That is all your getting from me!
  13. wow. that was an impressive assessment.
  14. quote name='jkerouac' post='196595' date='Feb 5 2007, 06:54 PM']I wonder what is going to go through Rex Grossman's head during the off season? Will he be demolished by his experience this season, will he find the secret to becoming a winner, or will it be more of the same? This, in my opinion, is one of the most intriguing set of questions that will be answered during this off season. I wish him well. I don't have a lot of confidence in miracles, but I wish him well.
  15. The dealers I referred to are legitimate in the jewelery district on w 47th street. They are not ad's so they do not sell new watches but they do sell vintages. I am told that you can get decent reps from them as well but I do not know that first hand. If they do sell them, they keep the merchandise out of sight. As for Chinatown, it is actually not that easy to get a rep rolex. I have tried by myself and have had limited success. My g/f is chinese american and speaks mandarin. If she goes without me she can pretty much get whatever she wants. The merchants really have two grades of goods.. the better stuff (including the better bags etc..) they normally keep out of site. I guess that is there way of mitigating the risk. I also have been around when raids were conducted. You never saw so many security doors slam shut so quickly. But it is nothing like what i saw in Rome. I was looking at a prada bag for my mom, and the guy kept telllng me that he did not have that much time. Suddenly at about 3PM two guys who were looking at merchandise, spun on their wheels and started heading for the merchants selling bags. These guys scooped their stuff in into blankets and lit out in micro seconds. Really quite impressive.
  16. It was a pleasure Bill, hope we can do it again sometime Better bagles than watch shows and architecture...
  17. Another vote for the little woman would notice and ask.
  18. It is a great work/life balance concept.. the issue is that in a global market, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the french, germans and italians to live that life style and compete with asian countries such as china and india who have people working longer hours and producing more . In fact I believe I read somewhere that , that in terms of GDP, China currently ranks 6th amoungst world economies but is expected to leapfrog UK, France, Italy and Germany by 2008 and push into the third position behind the US and Japan. In terms of PPP or purchasing power China currently ranks 2nd Globally only behind the US. India has and will continue to make similar strides. While work/life balance is a great concept and certainly popular in the short terms politically, in the long term, it may not be the best course to follow, especially for countries who aspire for maximum geopolitical influence where money talks.
  19. congratulations!! i am sure the white lies thread helped you over the top!!
  20. nope...not touching that one.. .not again anyway!!
  21. Nice job, and I particularly enjoyed the historical perspecitive.
