Just for s's and g's , I called Rolex USA on 5th ave today and asked them how I could go about servicing my 5513. They told me Rolex no longer services certain vintage models including 5513's. They referred me to the American Watchmaker's Institute which is basically a watchmaker referral service. Unbelievable.

Has Rolex Taken The "back Seat" In The Rep World?
eddhead replied to By-Tor's topic in The Rolex Area
Well here's a twist.. a short while ago, i walked into a very reputable rolex AD's store with a gen 5513 and he could not tell for certainty if it was real or gen until he had his watch maker remove the back and inspect the movment and serial number. He told me that cosmetically, some of the reps he has seen are virtually indistinguishable from the gens. This was a major league watch store been selling rolexes for over 50 years in downtown manhattan -
Well I know of a guy who is not very bright, and is socially inept but still managed to buy into two oil companies, a major league baseball team, went on to become governor of Tx and later President of the US.. but alas, i digress

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I agree that people make a concious decision with respect to thier appearance because it reflects something about themselves... it goes to self-image your appearance is all about how you view yourself, and that in turn is how others tend to view you. However, L and T is right in the respect that in NYC you can't really judge someone's demographics on the basis of how they dress, how long their hair is, etc... the city is just too diverse for that. It is one of the things I really love about living here.

I was just thinking the same thing when I read your post... to each their own, I guess, but to me, this watch is butt ugly

In terms of government eroding our freedoms, I think the jury is still out. One could argue that the mid-term elections were a mandate on just that... a referendum the value of the imperial presidency and balance between national security and individual liberties. Historically, that balance has always behaved like a a pendulum, depending on the events of the moment it could swing in either direction... the nature of momentum and inertia is such that it often takes time for the pendulum to swing back to center and achive the appropriate balance, t history shows that we eventually get there, and indications are that pendulum is beginning to swing back. Remember, the first person to suspend habeus copus was Abraham Lincon, not George Bush (not that I would EVER compare or equate the two) In terms of our standing 230 years ago, our forefathers were fighting for independence, liberty and the right for self-governance.... a better way of life. Today's terrorists are not fighting for a better way, they are motivated by jihad... a blood war for the sake of vengence and revenge, not a better way of life for their citizens. These people are good at spewing bile and promoting hate, but as not good at improving the quality of life for their constituents. Characterized by social and religous intolerance, they persecute those who do not agree with them. Comparisons between what we were 230 years ago, and what these people are today, are kind of insulting.

Where Did You Graduate From And What Degrees Do You Hold?
eddhead replied to thomasng's topic in The looney bin
State University of New York at Stony Brook. BA double major in economics and sociology. Was not really well of enough to attend a private collage.. had to work through school -
I own a 5513 but I do not have the discerning eye that many of you do. Mine is a 1985 edition. The pics are tough, but based on what I can see, it looks gen to me. Mine too has a fairly high domed crystal.. in fact when I first at chronmat's I thought maybe it was not domed enough. But I tried to lay mine down at the same angle as the shot above... and it looks dead on to me. I am not sure about the CG's they look a bit thick, but it is really hard to tell fromt the pic. ll. The crown itself looks right to me. If I had to guess, I would say it is a gen.

Democracy And A Chance Of A Lifetime...
eddhead replied to Richard Tracy's topic in General Discussion
All I am suggesting is that given the nature of this project, there is justice in knowing that the people who showed the most commitment to the effort will be rewarded for there efforts. In this instnace, think less of Admin Jefferson and more of Horatio Alger as an analogy. BTW I in no way associate that comment to what happens in real elections.. I kind of think that is a stretch.. and maybe not relevant to this thread. -

Agreed. There is justice in knowing that advocate who perhaps worked hardest in promoting his choice, will have it realized. -
Democracy And A Chance Of A Lifetime...

First and foremost, I would like to echo the thanks of the faithful. I am sure this has been a difficult project to run, and it will likely continue to be that way until the watches are produced and made available. I do not want to speak for everyone, but I am confident that most of the membership recotgnizes the effort and committment. I think you did a great job. You should be proud. I do not think you should look at the effort as anything but a success. Sure, a majority of the membership did not participate, but those that did, did so enthusiastically, and I am no doubt are excited about getting access to the final product. I can understand members not choosing to participate because they did not like the watches that made the final list, but some of the comments quoted in your initial post are way out of line. That really is too bad. This site represents a microcosim of the world we live in which unfortunetly is filled with lot of ungracious people. But you should know at least know that there are a lot of people here who appreciate the effort and are looking forward to the result. Thanks agan. -
Was messing around with my new dremel, and killed the bezel spring on my SMP. Anybody know where I can get a replacement?

How Many People Have You Spread The Replica Bug To?
eddhead replied to crystalcranium's topic in General Discussion
Same here. Most of the people I know, don't really understand why you pay what we pay for replicas b/c their only experience is with the Chinatown reps. Until they see the watches. -
Dean Martin & Foster Brooks... On Airline Pilots.... Enjoy...
eddhead replied to TwoTone's topic in The looney bin
A classic. I used to watch the Dean Martin Show with Foster Brooks with my Dad when I was growing up. I can still picture him laughing so hard he we would just about out of his chair. Thanks for the memories. -
Awesome review of a great looking watch, and I am not surprised that your photos are actually better (IMHO) than those of the gen. Nice job.
