30 Years Old And Just As Good As When I First Heard It.
eddhead replied to a topic in The looney bin
Ok Neil, How about this one from the same album: Early one mornin' the sun was shinin', I was layin' in bed Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all If her hair was still red. Her folks they said our lives together Sure was gonna be rough They never did like Mama's homemade dress Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough. And I was standin' on the side of the road Rain fallin' on my shoes Heading out for the East Coast Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through, Tangled up in blue. She was married when we first met Soon to be divorced I helped her out of a jam, I guess, But I used a little too much force. We drove that car as far as we could Abandoned it out West Split up on a dark sad night Both agreeing it was best. She turned around to look at me As I was walkin' away I heard her say over my shoulder, "We'll meet again someday on the avenue," Tangled up in blue. I had a job in the great north woods Working as a cook for a spell But I never did like it all that much And one day the ax just fell. So I drifted down to New Orleans Where I happened to be employed Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat Right outside of Delacroix. But all the while I was alone The past was close behind, I seen a lot of women But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew Tangled up in blue. She was workin' in a topless place And I stopped in for a beer, I just kept lookin' at the side of her face In the spotlight so clear. And later on as the crowd thinned out I's just about to do the same, She was standing there in back of my chair Said to me, "Don't I know your name?" I muttered somethin' underneath my breath, She studied the lines on my face. I must admit I felt a little uneasy When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe, Tangled up in blue. She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe "I thought you'd never say hello," she said "You look like the silent type." Then she opened up a book of poems And handed it to me Written by an Italian poet From the thirteenth century. And every one of them words rang true And glowed like burnin' coal Pourin' off of every page Like it was written in my soul from me to you, Tangled up in blue. I lived with them on Montague Street In a basement down the stairs, There was music in the cafes at night And revolution in the air. Then he started into dealing with slaves And something inside of him died. She had to sell everything she owned And froze up inside. And when finally the bottom fell out I became withdrawn, The only thing I knew how to do Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew, Tangled up in blue. So now I'm goin' back again, I got to get to her somehow. All the people we used to know They're an illusion to me now. Some are mathematicians Some are carpenter's wives. Don't know how it all got started, I don't know what they're doin' with their lives. But me, I'm still on the road Headin' for another joint We always did feel the same, We just saw it from a different point of view, Tangled up in blue. -

I agree. Perhaps my favorite dylan song of all time. In fact, the whole album is awesome. -
No, I understood your point. My last response was not intended to be political at all, sorry if it came accross that way. I just don't know if I necessarily agree with you. I think sometimes making a change for the sake of change alone is a good thing. Not always, but sometimes. It shakes things up, challanges the status quo, and leads to unpredictable but often positive outcomes. In the corporate world, even high-perforning organizations re-org every 2-5 years or so. I guess you could say the rationale there (your reason) is to premptively manage against staleness, but you can use that as a justification for any change. No hard feelings it is jst my view take it with how many grains of salt you wish.

actually, after 30 years they become neo-cons....
-
\ Indeed I was. But more broadly speaking, I agree with Pug's perspective on how people embrace sameness and reject any idea that is different from what they are used to. Not just in politics but throughout society. I hear it all the time at work.. this is how we've always done it... well, so what? People should be open to new ideas and new ways of doing things... I mean I get your tree example, but if nobody ever ate the fruit from tree no. 2, we would have a horribly boring diet. As a society we are too afraid to try something and fail.. I just think that experimentation and curiosity lead to invention and discovery

Great post, I really learned something. Thanks.

Gore gets a lot of grief for this statement. Here is what he actually said: "During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the internet. I took the initiative in moving forward a whole range of initiatives that have proven to be important to our country's economic growth and environmental protection, improvements in our educational system." Hardly a claim to have invented anything. Typical of Karl Rove's dirty tricks, The fact is, as a senator he sponsored the legistation that funded the commercialization of the internet, which until that time was nothing more than a closed private network for the scientific community. Say what you will about him but Gore understood the power of the internet as a driver for e-commerce and social change very early on, perhaps earlier than any other mainstream politician. According to Vint Cerf and Robert E. Kahn , " ...there is no question in our minds that while serving as Senator, Gore's initiatives had a significant and beneficial effect on the still-evolving Internet. The fact of the matter is that Gore was talking about and promoting the Internet long before most people were listening. " In 2005, the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences honored Gore at the Webby Awards for Lifetime Achievement for three decades of contributions to the Internet The fact that he stll gets mocked for his involvement in the internet is more of an indictment on this president and his administrations anti-intellectulist mindset than it is on Gore himself. It also says a lot about the american electorate, who are more suseptible to 15 second sound bites than they are with understanding the truth. Gore has a lot going for him. He was right on the internet. He was right on Global Warming. He was right on the first gulf war, and he was right on iraq. Under his leadership as Vice President, the federal beauracracy was trimmed and the budget was balanced. It is also worth noting that while he opposed the Vietnam war personally, he enlisted and served in Vietnam. He arguably has the best record of public acheivement of any mainstream US politician. I find it amazing that he is so universally mocked.

yep. you are preaching to the choir my friend.

While there is logic to your statement about change, I think the willingness for people to accept change.. ANY change is an indictment on just how bad people believe things really are, and how poorly they believe th country is being managed and how dissatisfied everyone is with the current course and speed. Let's face it... for the most part, people are usually resistant to change... this type of reaction is a barometer ... it shows just how desperate the electorate really is. Because at length, the democratic congress did not receive an electoral mandate.. rather, this was a rejection of the current government.

Ubi Is Considering Getting His First Credit Card...
eddhead replied to ubiquitous's topic in The looney bin
yeah but the trick is to not make late payments. Here is the deal on credit cards. By law, you have 21 days from the statement close date to make a payment. if you pay within the 21 days, you pay no interest. This rule applies irrespective of the interest rate you sign on for. For instance, if you charge a purchase on November 5, and your statement cycle ends on November 30, you have until Dec 21 to pay that charge off. If you pay it in full, you are not assessed interest.... basically you just benefitted from an interest free loan. If you pay of the minimum amout ( a small percentage of your charges) you are assessed interest on the unpaid balances at the annual percentage rate set by the bank. So if the interest rate is an 18%APR, that translates to 1.5% per month. Referring back to our example, if you charge 2000 during your November statement period, and pay $1000 by 12/21, you will be assessed interest on the 1000 at 1.5% ($15.00) on your next statement. If you miss the 12/21 payment altogther, you will also be assessed a late fee. So, obviously, the deal is to pay it all within the grace period (by 12/21). Banks refer to clients who do that as freeloaders. Works for me. The 0% finance offers can also work to your advantage, JUST DON'T BE LATE WITH THE MONTHLY PAYMENT!!!. These are ususally introductiory rates that apply for sy 6 mos. If you pay the minimum on time over the 6 mo period, you are not assessed an interest penalty. On the 6th month, pay the full amount, and you will have benefitted from a 6 month interest free loan. Obviously, the bank is counting on your not paying it off in the 6th month, so they can begin charging interest. If you avail yourself to these offers, you must never be late paying the minimum installment, of they will retroactively recalculate the interest you got a free ride on months back, and add it to the interest you owe going forward. This stuff can really work for you if you play it right. Just be carefull and timely with your payments. Good Luck! Banks make it pretty easy to pay on-line. I do it all the time. -
You know what's scary? Look up Liberal in a dictionary ... progressive!! when progressive gets a negative connotation, that is scary.

Boy, you really nailed it, both with respect to the mainsteam media's reluctance to criticise the administration's domestic and foreign policy/tactics following 9/11, and with the lack of input from the democratic minority. One of my favorite comediens and policital satirists is Louis Black.. one of his great quotes is that " The republicans are the party of bad ideas, and the democrats are the party of NO ideas" As to the economy, while it is true that on a macro level most indicators including the market are fairly strong, the overwhelming proportion of wealth gain goes to the ultimate top tier... I believe it is the top 5% or so. In Real Income terms, the majority of the population has lost ground, i.e. suffered income erosion since 2000. If you say the wealth is not being shared, you are accused of promoting class warfare, but irrespective of the name calling, the fact is THE WEALTH IS NOT BEING SHARED BY THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF AMERICANS. And this information does not come from some liberal think tank it comes from the GAO. Even Ben Bernanke has publically stated his concern about this. Also leave us not forget that the growth we are seeing is largely the result of US overspending.... the size of the US debt is now approaching $9 trillion dollars and is largely held by foreging entities who are not all together friendly to us. That puts these countries (Communist China) in a position to exert a lot of influence over our foreign policy. Also remember that when the Bush Administration took office the country had a $3Trillion dollar SURPLUS!! In other words, in 6 years we have spent $12 Trillion more than we have taken in in tax receipts. All things considered we really do not have that much to show for our $12 Trillion. No Universal Health Care, impending Social Security crisis, lack of job creation, lack of a comprehensive energy policy/ lack of investment in our energy infrastructure, rising intrest rates (which increases the cost of home ownership in the middle class), declines in real income for the marjority of americans, a poorly equpped armed infantry, reduction in veteren benefits, lack of progress on the 9/11 commission's national security recommedations, North Korea, Iraq, Iran, Venezuela, the list goes on and on. It is like they have a brown thumb, everything they touch goes to sh*t . But CEO's of fortune 1000 companies are doing verrry well.

But that is not the point. The display of pornographic images is offensive to our female members and as such is disrespectful to them. I realize that this is an unintended consequence, and that no one really wants to be disrespectful, but that is the effect. This is not a boys club. I am sure it is difficult enough for women to participate here, given the sheer number of men on the site, and the frequent displays of excess testosterone, why make it tougher for them?

oops.. my bad... apologies to pug for over reaction. I will defer on the issue of avatar

are you kidding? I did not realize this was a private conversation, thought that was what the pm function was for... besides, if that is the positon you are going to take, i would like to point out that i was responding to retep, not you. please explain to me the difference between me responding to him, and you responding to me.

I was and am hoping these posts were not serious, but since you asked, it is not a question of what I am or am not entittled to, but rather the judgmental nature of the posts... my relationship and performance standards with my employer are my business and my employer's business.. they are not the concern of anyone on this board. I will take care of how I go about doing my job. My employer will judge how well I do... everyone else should mind their own business.

I am not sure where you can find them but I have seen them on other sites and I have friends who have made the purchase.. The big difference with the Louis Vuitton is the way the leather trim ages... The leather on the rep is not of the same quality so where the trim on the LV bags tend to darken over time, the reps do not. Otherwise it is almost impossible to tell the difference.

Curious To See What People Wear Besides Watches

I do JoS. A. Bank as well.. I actually think their top of the line suits are very well constructed. Also Brooks Bros, and Hugo Boss. At home, it is mostly jeans and tee-shirts. -
How about a 5.1 surround sound package? Go with Klepsch, they're awesome. I understand the 2.1, 3.1, and 4.1 are also best in class. EDIT: Klepsch offers serveral versions of their 5.1 promedia package. you want the one that is THX certififed.. go for about $500 bill. Yoy may need to upgrade your soundcard but if your PC has the capacity, this is real easy to do.

no offense dude, but i doubt you have ever seen her with minimal make up.. or maybe you have, in which case i have a new person to aspire to!
