Agreed. I work for a large Bank FI specializing in providing Cash Mngmt and Money Movement services to fortune 1000 clients, but as it relates to fraud, big and small companies share tons of opportunites around risk... it is perhaps the single highest priority on a corprate treasureres radar screen, and it should be on yours as well. Bill's advise is excellent. I will also point out that from the perspective of manageing merchant service risk, these very issues were the inpetus behind the lauch services such as Pay Pal, and Money Broker. Of course as we know, there are inherent problems with those services as well. Bottom line though is, you should NEVER provide bank account indicative data to anyone who is not a trusted trading partner. This information can be used for many purposes beyond the underlyng transaction.. For instance, unscrupulus actors can initiate ACH debit originations from your account.. depending upon local law, you may have some recourse.. but it is not open-ended.. you have a limited amount of time to respond to these entries. I would also be wary about giving out information that may lead to idently fraud. YOUR PERSONAL OR BUSINESS ACCOUNT DATA IS PROPRIETARY... you need to guard it carefully

My Little Collection With Panerai, Rolex And Omega!
eddhead replied to watchfreak2005's topic in My Collection
I know I am late with this.. but these are incredible. Very nice job indeed. -
First, I love threads like this because as somone who is still learning about the craft, the articulation of views from some truly expert members really stokes me (and yes, i need to find a healthier outlook for my 'stoking'). Some themes to the responses are consistent with my limited experience.. 1. both movements are very dependable... I have only had my SMP with the 21J for a couple of months but i gotta say the watch is awesome.. keeps great time, is relatively smooth, and for the money, you really cannot beat it. 2. It depends on the watch.. I agree with that as well.. Again, in my own limited experience, it is too much of a blanket statement to suggest that ETA movements are closer in authenticity to the gens... In some cases that is true in others it is not.. If you want a rep that is as close inside and out to the gen that may be the case..(although in a previous thread Pub has convincingly argued that the 21J movement on the SMP is closer to the gen in terms of BPS') but if you if you do not care what the inside of your watch looks like, for some models the 21j's just appear to me to be great buys.. again, depending on the specific watch)

Paris for sure. The pp 24 is a beautiful watch, but it is a rep and and giving a loved one a rep... she may read an unintended msg into getting a replica as a gift (save that for when you are married ) BTW, I am in NYC too... if we are doing a show and tell please include me!

White Cosmograph Daytona 116520 - Flash Overview
eddhead replied to madmex's topic in The Rolex Area
What a great looking watch.. congratulations. -
Nice comparsion, thanks. I too have the GMT rep, it is an awesome watch, maybe the best buy out here for $108. Agree with your observations, especially with respect to the bracelet. Also, the placement of trhe HE valve is a bit off. Otherwise, this is an awesome rep

These are all great tips and pieces of advise, but all the guy wants to know is how to contact george.. you would be surprised at how hare it is to get that info from this site.. there is a lot out there but not a lot on contact data. I mean it is not exactly a state secret or anything is it? Also, if you are lucky enuff to find a thread with contact data, it is not always easy for noobs to get to tehe acronyms (for instance how is anyone supposed to know what a 'TRC' is?) From what I can ascertain, George sells at TRC (replicacollector.com),I cannot tell for sure, for some reason the corporate internet filter here at work will not allow me to access that site. but you might want to try there. Of course, I also strongly recommend you look at thor's excellent write-up as well as the critiques of other more seasoned collectors.

I agree with you, but maybe i'ld put it a differnt way... as a potential watch buyer you need to determine which seller attributes are most important to you and pick your dealer accordingly. Some very busy dealers do an amazing job in communicating with thier clientele... others are perhaps less diligent in that regard but provide a different buying experience through price, product, passion, QC, whatever... the point is that there is more than enough information on this and similar sites for perspective buyers to make educated decisions based on thier priorities and the specific attributes of the dealers. No one should be surprised. Still this thread has the potential to be an important tool for dealers who to know what makes thier clientele click, and what they need to do if they want to attract more clients. I realize that not every dealer here is motivated in that way, but for those who are, this might help.

This is a very good thread. I am relatively new to this game, and benefit from the expertise of the pundits on this and other sites. I try to do as much research as I can before asking questions and making purhcases but still... there is an awfully lot to digest and my eye is just not as nuanced as many of the more seasoned collectors What I value from the dealers above all else is thier honesty. I am impressed with a dealer who can objectively look at his/her product, and not only tell me what is good about it, but where it does not quite measure up. I have had very limited experiences as a buyer, and a correspondent but in the few that I have had, I have been impressed with the willingness of the dealers to be up-front.. I really like that. I think they cannot help themselves.. they are business people, but collectors as well and they love the craft too much to be anything but discerning, and objective about thier products... i really think they value thier positon as experts too much to be anything but honest in their appraisals. after market support is probably not as important... given that the dealers I buy from are overseas, and considering the custom hassles, et al.. it is very unlikely that I will EVER return a watch for any reason.. if the watch i recieve is damaged or not up to par, i may reach out to person, maybe try to work something out for the next time... if i cannot get satisfaction i will not deal with that dealer again... chalk it up to a lesson learned. But honesty and honor are of paramount importance to me. I read through TTK's ten reasons msg many times over the past week or so. I really like the fact that he personally inspects every watch and hand picks them... and i have no doubt that he actually does this... regardless of whatever else you may think, anybody who follows his posts can clearly discern that he loves this stuff too much to do anything but be very anal over every piece he collects, sells or trades... Getting that kind of assurance from the other dealers would go along way with me... I am not looking for guarantees, just an assurance that somebody with a high level of expertise looked at the piece and found it up to his/her standards. EDIT... the dealers i have purchased from so far are andrew and eddie lee, and the experience with both was been superb. I also has a deal going with josh that fell thru b/c the product i was interested became unavaliable right after i pulled the trigger.. to his credit, josh offered me a substantial discount on a replacement to make up for it but i was not interested in the model.. i guess that is what i mean by honor... communcation with him thoughout was amazing and i will defintely do business with him at some time in the future.

Gauging Interest - Upgraded Pam 063 (2893)
eddhead replied to Canuck88's topic in General Discussion
I agree.. that watch/movement was actually my first choice before 'settling' on my 029 with the same movement. .. i just could not find one... if you put it up i might be tempted to break into the piggy bank.... .. if i could justify having both!!!lly -
HAH!!! So, what parking lot do you do your tailgaiting in!!!
-
I will harp on.. a few years back I bought a Tag kirum link from a local jewler... not real expensive, but not wal-mart priced either.. about $1500... had it a week and dropped it on a rugged serface... the date wheel stopped moving... ok, i dropped the watch, mea culpa.. but by comparsion, I have done far worse to my reps (clumsy dude) and experienced no problem at all. these watches run like... clocks!! i mean they are accurate resilient and oh btw, very stylish. Plus the dealers here are very up front with you, and give you great advise feedback on the strenghs and weaknesses of the pieces are. Really, this is a great place to fine a watch a stylish watch.. TTK mentioned cache.. i agree.

i agree.. it looks like a watch one would gett passed down from one's grandfather!

I think i have pretty eceletic tastes, at least I think I do.. my g/f would disagree but that is b/c i have a very low tolerance for top 40 tripe.. i mean celine dione??? can you feel my pain?? Anyway, iam considerably older than most of u 'youngins' (but damn i look good!!!) the music i grew up to listening to was from 60's and 70's... groups like Dylan, CSNY, Stones, Beatles, Buffalo Sringfield, Byrds, Hendrix, Clapton, Allman Bros., Led Zep, Who. and some west coast stuff like Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Eagles.. I loved Little Feat when Lowell George was alive... Someone mentioned pre-collins Genesys featuring Gabriel.. I am rite with ya there! Also more traditional blues... BB King, Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Buddy Guy...Later on my tastes evolved with the times... more punkie/new wave... Sex Pistols, Takling Heads, Blondie (all the CBGC and Mud Club bands) Pretenders, Cars, Velvet Underground, Bowie, Cranberries were big with me too, et al... and again late into the grunge bands... Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains.. and later yet Greenday. These days I listen to all the above... but also have been have started to listen to some contemporary Jazz like Miles Davis and Dave Brubeck.. I am trying to get into classical as well.. sort of a struggle.. I really like it in small doses, but beyond that zzzzzz......

favorite van halen song.. "hot for teacher"... nice photo by the way!!
-
Yes I do. I cannot attest to how good a guy he is but he made some pretty good pop records. especially with Squeeze, an extremely underated pop band
-
maybe so, but $600 ???!

Blaacchhh!! The best of these groups is boring.. the worst are offensive!!! I mean, Debbie Gibson???? eeccch.... Poser umm i mean Poison??? Wow. If you are going to hop on the 80's how about Talking Heads, The Cars, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Squeeze, Graham Parker and the Rumor, The Clash, the Prentenders...
