A little help in dispelling a myth I believe in
southcoast68 replied to Prsist's topic in General Discussion
I used to have cheapo Silix 21j Submariner 1680 that I wore to work. Going through a door one day, I hit it against the metal door frame, hard!!! Other than a little scuff on the crystal (which came out with Polywatch polishing compound) the watch was ok and still ran like a champ. I would imagine that any watch you cared about would make your heart skip a beat if you hit it against anything. Although, I would be weary of wearing a rep Fiddy to work since a lot of them have had problems with the crystal cracking and shattering, even without being hit against anything. Cheers -

Excellent work!! Thank you so much for this!! Even if it has some shortcommings (all reps do), this does seem to be an improvement over what we had before. Cheers -

Isotonic sports drinks following a seizure?
southcoast68 replied to TeeJay's topic in The looney bin
I surely hope your friend is doing better, seizures are scary. I have never had one (knock wood), but my wife's nephew has been through some after being involved in a car accident. As he recovers, enrergy drinks and soft drinks like Mountain Dew are off limits to him, and I would imagine any sports drink would fall into the same category. Hopefully some members of the medical community can chime in, but it is really a matter left up to your friends healthcare professional. Although, a few pints and a packet of peanuts is all Authur Dent needed to get through the matter transference beam when the Earth was demolished to make way for a new hyper-space bypass... The best of health to all out there -

I have had this one for about a year now and had no problems (I do not wear it everyday though), it keeps great time and looks fantastic. True, Russian watches do tend to fall a bit short compared to their swiss counterparts, and they really do not hold a candle to Seiko's quality (Seiko is a true under-appreciated watch IMO). Still, some do have thier own collectable quality. Some Tudor Monte Carlo frankens are done with Poljot movements, and many vintage Pam models are done with Molnija pocket watch movements. All in all, I don't think any Russian watch would be too much more of a risk than the average rep especially considering that many models from Vostok Europe are a couple hundred or less to buy. Here is mine Here is Soviet era Molnija pocket watch, does this movement look somewhat familiar? Cheers

I am glad this landed at its new home safe and sound, wear it well. If I were in better financial shape for watches, it would have been mine (it was in my own home state of Florida after all) . But I am still glad it went to a fellow RWG member, one who can truly appreciate it. Enjoy

Woww, this is fast becomming one of thee coolest threads we have here!! Were the service replacements for the original inserts made of perspex as well? Some folks refer to the early inserts as being "bakelite". Thanks to Freddy and Demsey for the cool stories and pictures. Unfortunately, I have no such original Beatles memories to share, although I always enjoyed their music and enjoyed each members solo carrers after they broke up. It was a sad day when Lennon was shot, and unfortunately it happened on my birthday (Dec. 8 ), so every year it comes to my mind. Thanks so much for sharing folks, you add a new dimension to an already great community. Cheers

So how much is a "butcher" cover Yesterdays and Todays album going for these days? I seem to remember something about there being a super rare Stereo edition of this album as well. Thats right kids, there was a time when you had the choice of Stereo music and ack..Mono. Ok, I'm starting to make mysefl feel old, I'd better stop now. Oh, and the GMT looks sweet!! Looks like this project is comming together in grand fashion, wear it well.

Owee, wishing you a speedy recovery indeed. As someone who does not drink to excess, I too am amazed (and afraid) of just how many folks out there drive drunk. Feel better soon!!! Cheers (but with a soda only.)

We agree that this is a bi-partisan watch forum and we will work both sides of the isle to obtain the coolest watches on the planet . BTW - NANUQ, this is off-topic, but did you get that black dial black lung Doxa that was on Ebay a while back? Speaking of cool watches.
-
A whole 20 brands huh. Well, you have to think that they full well know what is going on in the rep world, there is no way that they cannot and to admit just how many brands are repped, and how good they are getting would be a big embarassment to them. Either that, or they are in denial. Also, remember that it is just not watches alone, just about every high end name in fashion accessories are repped.
-
Pretty sharp looking, I am starting to warm up to these aven though I do not have one yet. Congrats, wear it well.
-
I was thinking that if the Silix dial was re-finished to what you have now, maybe they could do the same in white.

Ha ha, yep thats better. Its all good folks, remember, this forum is supposed to be fun for all. Obama likes the teleprompter, eh, well remember that; 1. Richard Nixon was "not a crook" 2. Gerald Ford fell down the steps getting out of Airforce 1 a few times, and was labled a clutz. 3. Jimmy Carter was often characaterized as having a peanut for a head. 4. Regan was scrutinized over his "Voo-Doo" economics, and later did not recall. 5. George Bush Sr. was accused of being a "wimp" president. 6. Bill Clinton did not inhale (well, only "special" cigars with close personal interns). 7. George Bush Jr. looked alot like the kid on the cover of MAD magazine. You just can't make all the people happy all of the time, you just gotta do the best you can with what you got. We all better hope that whoever is in office is sucessful to some degree, or we are all gonna wind up loosing out, big time. (I see this thread getting locked down at some point....we'll see)
