  1. @Hike, nice job, really cool looking!! Can we get a shot of the movement through the case back? By the way, when you order cases from Getat, do you spend the extra $15 on a sapphire crystal, and if so, do they actually get you a sapphire crystal? Cheers
  2. Christ, by the way you guys were talking, I thought this auction was for the whole watch!!!!! You mean to tell me that someone actually has the balls to ask 39k for a f%#@ing dial!!!! Like I had said in another thread last week, I really do not have the stomach for this anymore. Sometime last year I remember a listing on VRF for a vintage GMT bezel assembly (the perspex, plastic insert style) in decent shape for something like 15k (I really don't remember the actual price, but it was in that neighborhood) and the seller had the attitude of "if you want it you will just pay it, someone out there will". I thought it was not only a crazy price, but it was arrogant as well. Seriously, some day, if this keeps up, I will have absolutely no problem selling my 1675 to some rich collector and soaking it for everything I can, maybe I can get enough to pay off my house. Cheers
  3. Its a conversation piece for sure! Conversation; "gee that is a really ugly watch...........Yeah it sure is!!" Conversation over.
  4. I am going to say that its genuine.
  5. Fantastic job, and fantastic first post!! Cheers
  6. How about this one, a 5000T Sharkhunter currently for sale at PMWF. hxxp://www.pmwf.com/Phorum/read.php?16,127823,127823#msg-127823 @Nanuq, I remember that black SUB 300, if I had the cash at the time, that one would have stayed in Florida with me . Glad to see you still are enjoying it. Cheers
  7. 4,000 EUR = $6000 US+/-!!!!! For a book!!!! Sorry folks, I don't think I can stomach too much more of this. Daytonas' are nice, but seriously.
  8. Thanks for your avatar!!
  9. Maybe its my 1675 GMT you are looking for? If so, here is its story; Cheers
  10. The great white has shown up on Josh's site; http://www.jpc8118.com/0000000000rlsdv01002-vintage-1665-great-white-asia-2836-p-7599.html Cheers
  11. "The Best Vintage Rolex Sports Range Ever Replicated .. Surpassing all previous replication from whoever !" Pretty strong statement, especially since it looks like the lug holes are to low. Replacing dials, hands and inserts are one thing, but if those holes are drilled too low, that could ruin what appears to be a great looking case.
  12. Outstanding picture, thanks! Cheers
  13. Congrats db2!!!!!!! Lucky sod, enjoy your new speedy
  14. Ok, cue the "Jeporardy" theme song...........
  15. Ok, this must be a sign. I was stoked about this raffle, and wanted a shot at this. But, when the raffle was announced, I was flat broke with .41 in my P-P account. Well, today I got paid, transferred $100 into my account just to have. I then checked in here to see who won the speedy I will never see and discover that there was still 4 tix left, so I hurried up and bought one. I am a believer in karma and pay attention to little things like this in being a sign. So, I am glad to participate after all, and good luck to all of us. Just being able to participate at all makes me feel like a winner. Thanks to Lani and RWG for the opportunity. Cheers, and a good weekend to all
  16. That tell-tale "orange" color on the seconds hand looks wrong as well as the hour and minute hands looking wrong. Also, isn't this series supposed to have a domed crystal?, the picture looks like a flat crystal. Oh, and by the way, even if it were totally legit and even though its an uber-cool watch, there is no way in hell it is worth over $5k!! Cheers
  17. Three points to consider; 1. Do you want it, 2. Can you afford it, 3. Can you justify the price. Its asking price is a bit on the high side, but, since this is local to you, and can be had in person, that may be worth a little of the cost to you. Did you try to haggle on the price? Since it is a gen, if you don't like it or get buyers remorse, you can probably sell it over again and get most if not all your money back. Personally myself, I would never pay more than $3k US for one, and a vintage Sub is more fun when you build one yourself. For me, there is a world full of diver and sport watches that are way more rare and interesting than a Sub would ever be. My .02 Cheers
  18. My understanding is that traditional super glue "out-gasses", it creates fumes that can have and adverse effect on the lubricants used on a movement, thereby gumming up the works. I have to admit that I have used superglue to affix dials before I knew of the danger in using it, and since then, do not use it on anything watch related. I would have to agree with gioarmani in that while nail glue may be a strong adhesive for what it is intended for, it may not last for long where metal to metal contact is necessary and where torsional forces happen. However, if this was a customers quartz watch he was working on, and a quartz watch will work for years without the need to use the crown for anything but to adjust the time to allow for daylight savings time (and some folks out there don't even do that), or adjust the day for an odd numbered month, its plausible that the watch in question may have its battery die or the watch be thrown away and be replaced before that crown has any chance to come loose again. So, nail glue would probably be a good stop-gap fix in that case. But super glue is a definite no no, maybe The Zigmeister can comment further on this. Cheers
  19. Wow, that LV looks great! They state that the 7753 movement shares the same layout as the Zenith El Primero, which would be great indeed, but is it also a thin enough movement to make a rep Daytona with the correct thinner case (or closer to it at least)?
  20. Its most likely the same quality, but cheaper due to it not having the Panerai name on it.
  21. A simple question turns into a interesting discussion no doubt. On topic - the two POs' I had did not have this etched logo on the back, but that was at least a few years ago, and even Omega gens probably did not feature it either. Off topic - there is no doubt in my mind that rep manufacturers can and will source parts from the OEM suppliers when possible. Again, citing the HBB bezel story, I believe it was Kyocera that manufactured that part for Hublot, and since its manufacture was in Asia, it was accessible to rep makers as well. Member Offshore has been to "ground zero" and would probably spend years going on visits there and will probably never know all of the players involved in the rep trade. We would be fooling ourselves to think that the security in these Asian plants make it impossible for rep makers to get the same parts. China is worlds away from a lot of us in distance as well as its socio-economic status and the way of life for folks that live and work there. Most of these folks are doing whatever necessary to make a living and turn a buck, and like other places in the world, anything is doable when the authorities and powers that be have the ability to look the other way. Its like I always said, a watch maker wants to be exclusive to its customers and charge the big bucks, they need more than just slick advertising and famous people representing them. They need to do more manufacturing in-house IMO to be truly exclusive and to distance themselves from the rep trade. I would never discourage anyone in owning a genuine of their favorite watch. While they may not make too much sense economically to some, to others it really is most satisfying in owning what you know for a fact is the real deal and something that not everyone has. Cheers
  22. I have held the genuine of that one, and it is stunning! Its also heavier than the Speedy Moon (due to it having a winding rotor I guess). Its also how scary close the rep comes to it.
