  1. I agree totally on this point Hublot has a short history in the watch world, beginning in 1980 as part of MDM Geneva, and becoming the Hublot we know of today in about 2004. Royalty and celebrities had taken quite well to the designs Hublot was producing, that along with the increasing amount of upscale marketing have made the Hublot name well known today in high end watch manufacture. In today's world, high tech often replaces old world craftsmanship in many well made high end products. While many high end watch houses do stay with the old world tradition of high end watch making, others like Hublot and AP have embraced the use of space aged materials and processes in watch making much like companies like Citizen and Seiko do. We often get dismayed at finding out that these watches are more mass produced and that somehow diminishes its image in our eyes. I don't hate Hublot, I actually toy with the idea of trying a HBB one day, but I often wonder why they are so acclaimed today. Then I remember that a brands image, exclusivity, as well as its manufacture all determine its popularity and how much folks are willing to pay. My .02. Cheers
  2. Thanks for sharing, and I love that you wore the ring!! I have worn mine to a couple of watch events, and so far have not met anyone else in the club that knew what it was . Glad to see that you all had a great "time" (pun intended)/. Cheers
  3. Yeah, that video is the perfect one for selling that watch!! Its on the first page when you go to tudorwatch.com.
  4. Well, it would indeed be living "greener", however, I am sure nobody would want to see me biking with only my birthday suit on .
  5. This retouched photo was posted over at RG, I like the white bezel idea of this one.
  6. @Katerchen that photo was really not work friendly, but I don't care . Cheers
  7. Here is my take on the latest and greatest (just for fun) Blocky looking case works for the DeepSea, but not here. Do a whole new sport model and leave the classic Sub alone. The fine adjustment clasp is a welcome addition to all of their oyster style bands. Reminds me of the "Frogmariner", someone on TZ referred to it as a "snot" Nothing new here, maybe its a different size case? Big deal.. You're kidding right. Nice elegant look, classic Rolex Nuff said!! Does not get any better the closer you get But that is just my feelings. So let's have a show of hands, how many want some of these DJ models repped? How many are willing to save up for the Tudor retro chrono? How many are still waiting for the rep industry to do a reliable Daytona seconds at 6? Hmmm, I thought so. This annual bashing of Rolex latest is getting fun. Cheers to all
  8. Whats up with these end links?? Me thinks they were switched out at some point, or the bracelet is not gen. Nice case set though. Cheers
  9. Here is James Dowling's photos on TZ; hxxp://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=tree&goto=4993593&rid=15 (replace "xx" with "tt" to use link). Unless they are holding back something, this is apparently it, at least for sport models. A new all stainless update of the Sub (same idea available in rep form for a while as a fantasy piece), including an all green model as well as an updated Explorer (which to me looks like much the same as before), all real original ideas huh . As said in another thread here, the Tudor Monte Carlo like tribute is fantastic and should be a sell out for them. Apparently, 2012 will be the 50th anniversary for the Daytona, and we may see an updated model there, I just hope they don't screw it up . Cheers
  10. NOW they're talking!!! :thumbsupsmileyanim:
  11. I should be receiving a brand new DSSD rep in a couple of hours, I'll have to keep aware of this, thanks for posting! I wonder if I can have a nice leather strap made for it . Or, maybe a nice rubber with deployant clasp :g: . Cheers :g:
  12. From me too Sixx, feel better soon!! Cheers
  13. The MBW/MBK vintage sub cases had the word "POLEX" in between the lugs, like LUNA just said he got. If your case has "Monarch Polfy Gelena Shitenerand" on the inside caseback, that is not necessarily a watch from MBW/MBK, I have seen this caseback on a few cartel watches. It may have came from the shop of MBW at MBK, but it may not accept genuine parts. Cheers
  14. Glad to be of service
  15. And that's probably the most accurate response yet, well done Marty!!
  16. See Chieftang's signature above
  17. If you have 4 porcelain dialed Daytonas in your collection, 1 is for keeping, the other three are for the investment, to either trade or sell to get other high dollar watches. The second pic looks like Zane's collection pic from Timezone. Truly impressive, but what would really impress me is if someone out there has a collection of multiple white dial GMT Masters (the ones issued to Pan-Am execs.), those are never seen hardly ever. Cheers
  18. I really do not think that anyone at the bar could spot a BK WM9 sub as a rep, period. As far as Panerai, less than $1000 US can get you a super rep that most would not be able to spot. I seem to remember a photo comparison which had shown what detail you would see up close, a foot away, and at what distance most people would see your watch at (might have been Fakemaster who posted that, I don't remember), and the details of a bad pearl, thick crown, date font being off, etc. could not be seen. Taking off the watch and handing it too them may be different, but even then, most folks would see the "sweeping" second hand and think it was real. Some super reps are good enough to warrant the caseback being removed to verify gen or rep. Remember, most folks who only go to the gen forums usually cannot tell a rep from a macro photo sometimes, and it usually takes a lot of guessing before the truth comes out. A lot of those folks do not even believe that the quality we can get is even possible. In the case of a DSSD, that whole watch design is proprietary enough to make the gen owners believe that such a good rep of one would not be possible. A franken like Ubi's Daytona would not be called out, period, simply because of all visible parts being genuine to begin with. I understand where you are comming from, and agree, its better wearing gen in some situations. But often I find that its the rest of the person who is the biggest tell. If you wear a rep, and hold yourself with confidence in everything you do, you won't be questioned. Its you watch, wear it with pride, it belongs on your wrist! I remember the last time I purchased a new car, the salesman was wearing a two tone blue dial submariner that was totally rep. How did I know? Well, the gold on the genuine does not wear off of the mid links, maybe the clasp, but not all the way up the bracelet. This was at a Lincoln/Mercury dealership, so at first I thought it may have been gen. But even this brings up a good point. Did you all know that way back, Rolex did produce gold dress watches that were just "capped" and not solid? This was a lot like "gold filled" and a definate step up from just gold plating, but these older Rollies would often show the stainless on the back side of the watch and bracelet where (Google "gold capped Rolex to see many examples). So, if we were to see an older late '50s Rolex with some of the steel showing through, would we think it was an old rep? The bottom line, we are not all experts with these watches, we know a lot more than others, but there is still much to be learned and even noticing someones "apparent social status" is no guarantee that the watch they wear is real or not, its more a "feeling" that this person who owns that watch belongs wearing that watch. Nothing wrong with Invicta, they have been around for a long time. Where I think they screw up is when they market their versions of the submariner, planet ocean, etc. Look at watches like the Sub-Aqua Noma III and see a big heavy cool looking timepiece that is available in quartz or auto, some models even feature the ETA 7753. Now, if you could only get Invicta in exclusive shops in Paris or on the Ginza, and if they carried a much higher price tag, and were seen being worn by celebrities, we would be wanting reps of them. Let's be honest, one of the reasons we like our reps is because of the name on the dial and the ora of status that comes with the name. How did a company like Hublot, which only has a history that goes back to the early '90s, get to be such a highly sought after and replicated brand? Marketing, they put themselves where the well-to-do are. At the yacht races, polo tournaments and golf events. While their products are well made and nicely finished, they cannot hang their hat on any great and long history in watch making. Woo, way off topic huh. Sorry about that, my original expectation of a rep is the overall feel and wow factor it gives. There, not we are back on topic Great thread Lani!! Cheers
  19. The Seiko 7T59 1/100 sec chrono was cool too. It had three stepper motors and 9 hands. See video link;
  20. Picking up any of your favorite genuine watches is bound to give you some sort of "oh wow" feeling, and if a rep gives the same sense of "oh wow" in its own way, IMO it has done its job. My only real expectation of any rep has always been an overall feeling of a solid build, and this always depends on the price point of the watch, although I do have some reps that I got for around $100 US brand new and these still amaze me on just how good they are visually and mechanically. Case in point, my Sub LV from Trusty I got a couple of years ago. This one was about $108, the Asian budget edition, and while it cannot compare with the latest from WM9 and BK, it still runs great and has a nice wrist presence, it is just good cheap fun!! I always try to identify just what I want from a rep as far detail too and use these factors to determine which version (if applicable) to get. Example, just last week I had the opportunity to hold a genuine DSSD up close and personal. I have been wondering about getting a rep of one for a while now, but was unsure of the rehaut engravings and the overall size of the watch. When seeing the real thing, I was reminded that the photos we share here are picturing the watch in question at 10 times its real size, and that in real life, that rehaut engraving is not an issue, especially when viewed through the domed crystal. So now I want the rep, but I am hoping that the current versions present me with the same overall "wow" factor that the genuine had, if the rep even comes close, it will be worth it IMO. Now my own personal feelings of detail are different than others. To me, having the most accurate looking bezel insert and dial is way more important than the accuracy of the HEV valve or whether all the lume is a nice shade of blue at night. To try and summarize, I think we often get too worked up over the little details (yes, I know there are little details that are deal breakers and its those little things that can ruin an otherwise great peice). Looking at a rep for what it is and really looking and noticing its general construction, weight, functionality and the all important "wow" factor is what makes having reps fun. Frankens are a different kettle of fish as these often require years of saving money, collecting parts, assembling, servicing, etc. for them to be had, and are often a labor of love. Such frankens also hold the special value of the journey in getting them built and the satisfaction in "rolling your own" and they have a "wow" factor all their own. See Lani, you thought you were starting to ramble.... Cheers
  21. Seiko makes a whole range of quartz alarm chronographs that have a once per second tick on the normal small seconds, and a sweep on the big seconds hand when the chronograph is on. Just look for models with the "7T62" movement. There are also other brands that do the same, but they may use the same Seiko movement. Cheers
  22. I believe the term "rail dial" is slang for the appearance of the text on the dial being very uniform, therefore making the letters look like they were following rails. But maybe not..... CHeers
  23. And... here is a nice beads of rice bracelet for a 300T on the 'Bay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Very-Cool-Vintage-Doxa-Sub-300-Watch-SS-Bracelet-NR_W0QQitemZ170449506447QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item27af95108f
