  1. The space between the words Superlative Chronometer and Officially Certified are in-line as opposed to the space between these words being offset. See below, first picture is rail dial, second is the more common version. Cheers
  2. So what do you all think, are these the future dive watch collectibles? http://www.zinexwatch.com/MANUFACTURING.html http://www.orsawatchco.com/models.html http://www.deepbluewatches.com/images.html All this talk of dive watches from a guy who does not even swim. Cheers
  3. It just happens to be the going rate for vintage Doxa dive watches lately. In fact, most classic dive watches these days are climbing in value no matter what the brand. At one time, a Rolex sub was the only game in town for collector diver watches, now as their prices have gotten to ridiculous amounts, folks turn to the equally cool pieces from other makers. Vintage military dive watches especially get high prices. An Eterna Kon-Tiki Super IDF military issue is both hard to come by and is getting pricey, and like the Doxa, has a look that not everyone would appreciate. No matter what, you gotta admit that the "Aqua Lung" logo on that dial looks way cool. Cheers
  4. Somebody bought it for $610!! $620 with the shipping. God, just the pic of the clasp made me twitch Yikes Cheers
  5. Yes, they can, and they have already proven this. The Seagull ST-19 that is used in many reps is built tough, smooth operating, and even in a rep, comes from the factory pretty clean and lubed. As far as their ETA clone movements, I think the real problem is with their QC and finishing (except for the A7750 seconds at 6, which is poorly put together from the start). QC and finishing is where a lot of the extra cost comes in with the Swiss made gens. As said before, the Swiss get paid higher wages and have better facilities to work in and that reflects in the final product. Knowing that the Chinese ETA clone movements are destined to be used in rep watches, they will get no real QC, if it is running at assembly, in and off it goes. Some rep makers do real well in basic QC with fit and finish, and even mechanical quality, but many don't bother for the most part since they are "for novelty purposes only". It has been proven that the Swiss are not the only watchsmiths of the world, China and Japan have proven their abilities every time. We just need to remember that there is a difference between something made for the high end main stream market and what gets slapped together in GZ that we see in this end of the watch hobby. Cheers
  6. This all sounds like "business as usual" to me, carry on.
  7. As said above, you cannot rule any brand out until you see it first hand. I have always liked Rolex (just their snoody attitude that ticks me off), they offer the largest selection of models that look good to me. Originally, I did not like AP, but recently I have gotten on the wagon a bit, even bought a rep of a ROO Chrono to test it out and if it were not for limited cash right now, I probably would have add others by now. Hublot Big Bang has me confused, I don't hate them, but I can't justify buying one either. I like Panerai, but I agree as above, thay have too many models that look like other models which makes me care a little less about them, but I do have a couple PAM projects in planning and I promise no two will look alike. Now, the brands and reps I do not understand at all are the Grahams, Corums, Zenith Defy series, anything from Alain Silberstein. These watches are gaudy, fashion statements that are overpriced for what they are. What blows my mind is that the rep industry insists on making models like the Zenith Defy Extreme more accurate, but refuses to take the same improved dial layout and do the Zenith Rainbow, or DeLuca, or even a good seconds at 9 Daytona . I think the appeal to the Hublot's and AP's, at least for me, is the variety. Sure it is getting a little excessive in all the versions available, but it is cool to see something for everyone. Wow, in re-reading this, I seemed a little scatter brained in my thoughts . I guess I just agree, there are some watches I don't understand, rep or gen. Cheers
  8. Great thread!!! Great photos!!! The Mii parade of watches continues.. Cheers
  9. How about HikeUSA or Sql_Pl?? How about it guys, what are the stars of your collection??
  10. Forgive my ignorance here but what is the significance of the number 8 being red on this model? edit, never mind, I just re-read the post mentioning 8 being a lucky number. Nice collection, by the way!!!
  11. I never had a problem with Neil, but I never ordered a watch from him either. Just reading what he posted to some, the tone he took with some, was all I needed to find other dealers for watches. At one time, he was one of the only sources for MBW peices, since then getting the MBW stuff has been a bit easier and less of a mystery. That along with his unreliability and attitude basically ended his tenure on the boards. I did enjoy his photography and some of his point of view though. He angered and threatened a lot of folks and failed to deliver on many watches, so he was banned for good reason. With that all said, I do hope he is in good health where ever he is. Having been diagnosed with diabetes myself recently, and knowing what may happen to me later in life, I wish no ill wind for someone suffering the brunt of it all, after all, its just a bunch of watches at the end of the day. Live strong everyone.. Cheers
  12. Ebay Item No.170436860927 Poor pictures but it does not look right to me, what say the rest of you? Cheers
  13. Bezels are separate parts from the case, but I think in the case of the 172 rep, the bezel and CG are polished Ti and the case is brushed/matte, but I could be wrong. As far as the gen, it may have a SS bezel and CG, does anyone know for sure? Cheers
  14. Nice pickup, looks fantastic!! Couple of weeks ago I was out watch shopping (for my wife actually) and of course I was doing a lot of looking for myself as well. Earlier in the day I was holding an Omega PO (the smaller version), it was beautiful, but considering its price I expected a bit more, and turning the bezel it felt like a toy almost. Later on, I was at a Seiko factory store and had a look at a Samurai, boy what a difference!!The Seiko kicks ass and its a much better value than most other watches out there. Turning the bezel on the Samurai was wonderful, smooth and precise feeling, and it was a perfect fit on the wrist. Yep, this one is definitely on my short list for sure. Cheers
  15. Oh man Hike, that sucks!! Looks like somebody in the postal system has a new watch. I hope you can get it resolved somehow. Cheers
  16. ...wishing for a speedy recovery, get well soon Ella.
  17. Beautiful job!! I hope to be working on a similar project shortly.
  18. Can you imagine buying a gen Rolex product and seeing that all too famous little gold foil sticker on the box that says "made in China" . I have always said that the rep industry tends to help the gen industry in 2 ways; a.many buy a rep to "test drive it" and eventually liking it enough to spring for the gen, a watch they may not have bought otherwise, and b.the gen manufacturers can rightfully say "the only way to ensure you get the read deal is to buy it new from one of our AD's". Better and better reps will continue to make used on-line and grey market purchases to be a risky proposition. Although we here will always be able to tell the difference between rep and gen, we are the ultimate in the educated watch consumer . Cheers
  19. I can usually get a rep from China to Florida in about the same time as it takes to get a package from Texas to Florida.
  20. It will cost way more than 1.5 mil when all is said and done, and some of those cars have serious enough structural damage to warrant writing off the restoration and starting over.
  21. Whats scary is that I can see Rolex doing this one for real, especially with some of the other stuff they have done lately.
  22. As long as nobody got hurt, cars can be repaired, loss of life is permanent. That being said, holy cow!!! Assuming that all the cars were authentic, the Hemi 'Cuda convertible, the red Chevelle LS6, the Sox & Martin drag 'Cuda, the multitude of damaged Shelby Mustangs and all those Corvettes are particularly big dollar losses. Getting dented and scratched fenders and doors is one thing, crushing a roof or bending an "A" pillar is something else. I'll be at the Mecuum auction here in Florida this Saturday, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for approaching storm clouds!! Damn!!!
  23. Be careful with that, while there is little a AD can do about you wearing a rep (depending on what country you reside in), we still do not want to draw undue attention to this hobby. Sure, many folks won't know the difference or even care, but why do it? Its the same as posting rep information on a gen site, don't do it! We are all better off just enjoying our timepieces for what they are, a fun interesting hobby. Just some friendly advice
  24. Looks beautiful, you are only a vintage strap away from having some serious fun, wear it well. Cheers
  25. I bet with a new battery, it would still keep time. Cheers
