  1. Fun...tread carefully around him with your reps. If the guy really knows watches...and not just how to buy gens, he may or may not be warm to the concept of reps.
  2. Aaah...you didn't try searching hard enough. Before you get flamed for asking the most often asked question in the universe ("where should I buy from?")...read my guide....I wrote it just for YOU: BTW...you don't buy reps in the GTA...you mail order them from China...or buy them from RWG members who live in Canada...or GTA if you're that specific. The ones in TO suck...trust me. Welcome aboard...read, search, read more, learn, and have fun.
  3. From this post here (in case you don't have a membership there...I'll copy the text here): "Size and weight I think there
  4. Suunto's are very function heavy watches...and something worth getting in the gen variety if you can. They suck batteries like crazy though. You buy them because you need the specific functions for mountaineering, backcountry travel, etc. If you're not using those functions, something like you bought for the look of the big piece is far more practical than spending all the money on functions you won't use.
  5. How do you modify that? Do you use a different movement holder and a taller cannon pinion?
  6. That is too awesome...hilarious. I was going to suggest sending them to me!!
  7. It's a gen...no pearl! Gen manufacturers suggest re-testing for pressure every year.
  8. There are so many versions of this thing...it gets confusing. The 3786 (rare and out of production) doesn't have the Top Gun back, and is 44mm: There's the LE Top Gun Ceramic 3789 (current model) chrono (non-Doppel) with the Top Gun caseback which is 44mm: Then...there's the LE Top Gun Ceramic 3799 Doppel which is 46.5mm: So from what I understand, a Top Gun Doppel is always 46.5mm...and the regular chrono is 44mm...but there is the smaller 44mm Doppel in the non-Top Gun version (with white hands vs. red jet hands). I was going to add, that the first "Top Gun" rep that came out was the fake Doppel that attempted to copy the 3786 44mm with the 10-o-clock pusher but without the additional hand (no jet hands)...and the current "Top Gun" reps copy the 3789 regular chrono removing the 10-o-clock pusher, keeping the 44mm pilots case footprint in both a PVD and ceramic version. They have yet to make a Top Gun Doppelchrono rep in 46.5mm. I would like to see this...even with a fake 10-o-clock pusher, and a fixed doppel hand...but without the Top Gun stuff...not quite accurate because no gen exists without the Top Gun markings...but much classier IMHO.
  9. You got it!! Read my Noob guide pinned in the Introductions/Rules/Support section. Welcome aboard...the obsession has begun.
  10. There are some other subtle differences like the additional red markings on the 12-o-clock subdial, the vertical striping on the right of the subdials vs. the left on the ASBAS (Avenger Skyland Blacksteel)....blah blah blah..."this one goes to 11". Overall...the differences are small other than the size of the case. It's discussed here: hxxp://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=182607
  11. Do you have the crown or is that lost? The other issue is whether or not the crown came unscrewed, or snapped off from the stem. You can try and source a crown from Peter (Watchstation) or Silix...but you may need a stem as well depending on how the new crown mounts onto the stem. You could even try ordering a gen from one of the supply houses (Ofrei, Borel, Cousins maybe??) If it merely came unscrewed, you can take the new crown and take the stem out and screw it back in with either epoxy or Loctite. If it snapped off, you'll need a new stem and a crown, as getting s stem stub out of the crown might be difficult without causing damage (possibly drilling it out, and re-tapping the crown threads).
  12. Is this your 1900's Homage?? Very nice! Love this thing. Is this movement with a chrono unit removed?
  13. I've never had problems with either of them...but as Febus has noted, there are some who refuse to buy from them. Do a search for "cartel" and "drop shipping" and you'll see some posts that show the "other side".
  14. I\'m not sure what the problem is...but it might be related to stuff discussed in this post: Understanding the Power Reserve and Rotor ...the post speaks to the A7750, but some of it should apply to mechs in general. You might find somebody who can work with the rep movement and repair it...but that may be hard. I know The Zigmeister won\'t touch them GMT movements...even ETA based ones...unless they are the gens (e.g. 2893-2 vs. 2836 with gmt complication). So...you can opt for a replacement movement for $100+shipping from somebody like Silix or Watchstation (for an Asian 2836 with GMT complication vs. the standard Asian with GMT)...and then a movement swap for $50 (or free if you can do it yourself).
  15. Excuse the stupid question here...and the fact I know NOTHING about Yachtmasters...am I correct in understanding this is a rep made in solid gold, that you are building into a Franken 16618? If so, that would be an expensive project. Solid gold gen parts? Wow!
  16. They say the same thing for the Skyland and a few others. You have to take these things with a grain of salt. They have Asian copies of ETA movements that look identical...until you start doing part replacements and realize they are almost identical...bu not close enough. For the most part...1:1 supposed reps, will likely accept the major gen parts with little to no mods (never assume ZERO mods): Crystals Dials Bracelets/straps Casebacks Hands But when you start working on stuff that requires really tight tolerances (e.g. case tubes, cannon pinions, gears, screws), you'll probably find out that 1:1 doesn't hold true anymore.
  17. Nice!! It would probaby cost you a few thousand to get a costume appropriate to attend her party!!
  18. It's looking quite dreamy...good stuff. Keep 'em coming Terje!
  19. Heh heh...I like the number markers more...reminds me of the "tool watch" pedigree of the brand...but blinged up for the modern man. I'm not a big fan of that orange OR strap though.
  20. It also goes to show you how if you stick around this site, the WIS in you comes out and you fret over miniscule details that really don't make a difference in the grand scheme of things, because so few people in the general populace know watches. There is a watch repair guy I go to for simple stuff who knows watches, but doesn't know reps. He loves my reps and likes to point out the "flaws" on my reps that only he-in-the-industry would know. The problem is...the flaws he points out are not the flaws on that particular rep (e.g. pointing out the missing "Swiss Made" on a dial that should NOT have that printing...but missing the fact that the white painted cannon pinion should be brass). I smile. When you read posts here...you can get caught up over details that nobody even AD staff would ever notice even under high magnification...but that's the beautfy of this forum, in that the people here are truly knowledgeable WIS's that can point out miniscule flaws that remind us that as good as the current generation of reps is...they all have flaws so don't try passing yours off as gen...unless you're prepared to be humbled when you do meet that 1 in 10,000 that does really know the difference.
