  1. Welcome aboard. Read the Rolex section...there are TONNES of posts on the search for the best Rollies, and you came to the board with the best info. Read, search, read some more and have fun!
  2. Where did you get that one? And...thanks for posting a review. It's always great to see new members put back to the community and keep the info alive!
  3. The traditional "Asian Fish" didn't have AR and had mineral crystal. The use of mineral vs. sapphire has been a debate as some of those who received mineral Fishes, did the water test and swear they are sapphire. Who knows...nobody did any x-ray diffraction analysis or anything. The ideal Asian in my opinion is just that...DG2813 for simple maintenance/replacement, sapphire and AR...go with it!!
  4. Indeed. I would love to hear your experiences...and see the breadth of your collection. That's a substantial amount of replicas. The sharing of knowledge, and the transfer of knowledge is one of the best ways to transition to new things!!
  5. Nice pieces. @Lani - That Pam looks awesome on your wrist @Robbie_G - Gotta love that Ti Aquatimer @DLuddy - What dial was that? I couldn't see through that thick dome.
  6. I think the problem you have with the rep deployment is the problem with deploments in general. Because they are a pretty big piece of rigid steel..they want to sit flat on some part of the wrist. If your wrist isn't the right shape or size, then the watch may shift a bit and not sit centred right on the top of the wrist. I'm happy with my 22mm Skyland deployment and rep strap. The strap feels a bit rubbery, but is getting better with wear. Tang buckles are probably the most low profile on the wrist and may be the most comfortable, but I love how easy it is to put on the deployment. Yaron appears to have had a bad OR deployment...but others like Lani seem to have received good ones...so as usual, hit and miss a bit with the rep stuff. I too like the SS shiny link bracelet on the SOH. You should check out the Links section, and HKTan's gallery for strap ideas. He's had a tonne of skins on various straps, and can make whatever you need.
  7. I have yet to see either bracelet in person...just the gen. I don't know that anybody has received a "V1/V3" bracelet yet...so don't know that a comparison is possible yet.
  8. I've got one of these...works alright...but certainly not as good as the much more expensive pliers. But hey...how often are you resizing straps and bracelets? Start buying more reps...and you'll soon find out. Hah hah.
  9. Congrats. A friend did the similar thing...except 3 times. The quickie...one in China, and one in Canada.
  10. Peter's pics are definitely of a shiny Pro2 bracelet. This is not the brushed one of the SOSF. V3 on Steel
  11. Wow. WOW. Some day I hope to have the skills to do something like this...until then, I'll live vicariously through skilled folks like you.
  12. I LOVE that caseback...that's the best feature of the watch.
  13. Nice pic. I think it looks great. The mesh is so popular...but I'm not a big fan of the mesh either. I do like the Ocean Racer deployment though!!
  14. Let me get this straight...after you have run the chrono (aka stopwatch) for a few hours for example, you press the top botton again, and the chrono stops...but the secs @ 6 keeps running, correct? You say, when the chrono is stopped after it has been running for awhile, after the hands are all over the place from the chrono running, pressing the bottom button DOES NOT bring the centre second hand, the hand at the 12-o-clock subdial, and the hand at the 6-o-clock subdial back to the top (aka 12-o-clock position)??? If that is the case, then you likely have a defective one. Word of warning...you will not get a new one from Josh/Andrew until you ship the old one back to him. You will need to send it back by airmail (should cost $15-20...any more than that, and you might have too small a package and are getting charged a premium for an undersized package). Don't send it back by courier. Listen to the instructions of Josh/Andrew. You will have to pay the shipping back...he will pay shipping after the watch is FIXED. You will likely NOT get a new watch...but a fixed one. That's how it goes in the rep game. A return process generally takes about 2 months before you will get a watch back in your hand. Good luck.
  15. It is a very unique style watch that's for sure. Looks great!!
  16. As an additional note...you said "but naturally without the expensive precision movement / mechanism found in the original) but I feel let down in this department" As The Zigmeister has noted, the A7750 movement is an excellent, and reliable movement, which with proper servicing can be made as accurate, and durable as the ETA 7750 found in the gen Carrera. The problem is they arrive dirty and dry for the most part, so should be serviced around the 9 month mark to ensure no premature wear and tear on the parts so you don't need parts replacements. The issue is finding somebody who can do a proper servicing and can source parts, and wrapping your head around spending on servicing close to what you spent on the whole watch. Get a servicing done, and the watch will in fact feel and sound like a gen. This is your first rep...so you have a couple options to bring things up to the next level. Some people are thrown off by the feel of rep bracelets compared with gens...so they either oil, dremel, or exchange them with a gen. To me...I would rather spend the money on the movement as athe rep bracelets/straps I have are good enough for me. Some people throw in gen Valjoux 7750 movements...which will bring your piece up in price about $500-700 after swapping hands and getting somebody to do the work. This will get you very close to a gen (aside from the water resistance reliability of course). If these things still don't turn your crank...the rep world might not be for you. Remember...you are often getting pieces that are extremely close to the gen...but at 1/10 or less in price!!
  17. Quite the collection...and of primo movements, and mods. Wow. I take it you like Pams?
  18. I thought it looked like spray foam insulation, or that spray string hair for Halloween...likely to hold the movement like The Zigmeister said...or to avoid the landfill.
  19. Aaron is HKTan...check out the RWG links section: Strap Links ...look up HKTan...then you'll see the gallery of what he has done in the past. His are all custom straps...find the skin you like, the watch you need it for...and any other custom features you want (e.g. extra long because you have massive wrists...or extra short because you have skinny ones like me) and can usually take 3 months for an order. Hah...you thought 2 months to get a buggered rep repaired with a collector was bad. HAH HAH. Top quality though. Aaron's email is: aarontanhk@hotmail.com
  20. Yup...scratch it off. It's like paint. As to the movement feeling shaky or noisy...that's the nature of the A7750 movements in general. Noisy Rotor and Grease/Oil A7750 Spinning Rotor...is it a problem? A7750 Power Reserve and Rotor Spinning Problems Gens are generally not as noisy...and some reps are often not as noisy as others. The problem is solved with a proper servicing...or you just ignore it. If you can't deal with either servicing or coping with the noise...you'll need a gen Swiss movement. BTW...nice avatar!!
  21. Nice size "grain" on the gator...I like the bigger "squares" more than the little ones.
