  1. Yup...Maxman is all class in his responses. He's just going by the usual experience of folks here who start off with a casual interest that, when they do in fact spend the time to start searching realize that there is a lot more info out there...GOOD and USEFUL info...and exciting discussion that they find RWG to be more than just a quick answer help desk for your one rep. RWG aims to be a community of watch enthusiasts. The feeling with most folks here is that we try to encourage an interest in the "hobby" as that is what is of interest to us. If you do indeed only have a passing interest in just getting one nice watch and don't care about putting back to the "community" of knowledge...then most of the "pros" here don't want to spend their time answering questions that you can find the answer for yourself through searching: if you don't want to spend the time searching...why should we spend the time responding. That being said...hopefully you got the info you needed. If you only want this one watch and that's it...fine...the Breguet will be fine.
  2. Welcome aboard. Maxman is the official Wal-Mart greeter!! I'll be brief here: - ANY watch you like is worth having - ANY rep you plan to pass off as gen will have the potential of being called unless it's a Franken built with 100% gen visible parts - There are generally a couple categories of reps IMHO worth buying...reps that are super accurate, and reps that aren't but are still nice - Generally, there aren't a lot of high accuracy Breguets. There are 1 or 2...can't remember which...but given that so few of them are spotted in the wild, the odds of anyone knowing what it is, or being able to spot gen vs. rep are slim - Just because they aren't high accuracy, doesn't mean they aren't nice and worth buying. I don't think the grey dial in the 1109 (first one) suits a Breguet. The 884's are nicer. If you like the 884, I would recommend the Vacheron Constantin Malte Chrono with the same movement and layout...more accurate a rep...and the movement is solid (as it is in the Breguet as well). These are RobbieG's pics:
  3. I agree #4 and #5 are the best technically as the "brightness" of the images matches the background the best so they don't look "pasted on". The Hublot one is alright too...but doesn't really match what I think the chunkiness and angularity (if that's a word) demands. Having fun with it is what it's all about.
  4. This is exactly the mindset for future collecting. It's a gamble as always...but the popular models will never increase in value EXPONENTIALLY. They will increase in value over time as Rolex has had a tradition of increasing prices every year by a lot...but as far as outstanding gains...this only happens on higher risk ventures...always. The Comex Divers are another example...thought of as cheap freebies that were traded in bars for booze are now worth over a $100K in some cases. 6263's, 1655s, etc...the lesser known models which at the time were less popular than things like the DJs or Presidents are now worth a lot because of uniqueness, collectibility and rarity. That being said, this is no guarantee that these will be worth a lot in the future...but still, I think it's a very interesting watch that would do GREAT with a The Zigmeister custom lume job to get the colour and glow like the gen.
  5. Is it my imagination or does this one have a properly placed HEV??? That would make an improvement at least to the case...if not the "Happy McOmega" Feet.
  6. I just watched it. Is Frank wearing a PAM 310? In the movie... ...and the gen
  7. Welcome to RWG. As much as we have recommended dealers here with things like servicing and waterproofing, the usual consensus here is not to believe it especially f it involves you having to pay extra money. The belief (though rarely confirmed) is that no work...or dirty work will be done so you would be wasting your money.
  8. Here's mine on the way to work...a different 3717 gun shot...crappy pic...but I was a bit rushed to get to work...
  9. This shot shows off the new bezel nicely. In the other pics the numbers seem to stand out a lot more...but this particular shot makes me see more your fondness of this insert. Great pic.
  10. I like the entire collection because it matches the diamond studs and gold caps I put on all my teeth, and the 4" jewel on the top of my pimpin' walking stick. To be honest, I think the flower power dial is probably one of the better things they could have done to make the brand "hipper" for a younger audience. The uber-bling stuff is just tacky IMHO. The Tudors look better to my eye as well.
  11. I agree. I could tolerate it on the caseback as you don't see that...but the logo on the side bugs me. This is where we need a fantasy, less accurate version that doesn't have the logo at all. Otherwise...I love everything else about it...except the strap. I'm not sure what I would choose...but I'm not a fan of the strap either. I don't like cloth straps...they get too stinky after wear if you sweat.
  12. Looking good. The bracelet on this one is a beast!! Looks good!!
  13. I'm dead serious on this one S. Think how many of your ink projects started off with an internal vision WAAAAY before you actually sketched something out or put anything in "writing". Most of the creative process is in the planning...the execution will always be good for getting together doing watch stuff with fellow enthusiasts and having a laugh or applause at the results.
  14. No it's not...you're the artist man. You be the artistic director and get your dad or sis to help out. Come up with a compositional idea...and see what your familial fellow horologists can pull together pushing the trigger on the camera. No point in letting your artistic talents go to the wayside Sixx!! You know I think you're up to the challenge!!
  15. Dude!! NICE write up. Great photos and a lot of time and effort put into this one. An awesome addition to the Tag Body of Knowledge. This is a good one. Some people like the less cluttered earlier models...but I think this one looks great for a modern watch! Great stuff and thanks for the writeup.
  16. I was waiting for the Navy response...that I can't compete with...but I still have a chance as there is no watch prominantly positioned in the shot!
  17. Go for the Ebel. It's a much better rep. The Turn-o-graphs and other vintages are generally not super high end reps out of the box. People usually use them as bases for making big projects. The vintage GMTs however have had good reviews. EDIT: Whoops...realized you weren't specifying the modern TOG...my mistake...either way...I would go the 1911.
  18. The FM watches (gen) have blued hands...remember...that's "blued" hands and not BLUE hands. As others have said above...blueing is a metallurgical process...while blue is just paint. They don't blue the rep parts as it costs too much compared to slapping on paint. Usually...FM and the Cartiers use blued hands and whatever...depending on the design...sometimes gold, silver, black, blue.
  19. It got posted originally here: Nasa Speedmaster Set
  20. I want to see this one...I'll try and post one in the next couple days...I have a bigger gun I have to get to.
  21. I like this piece. I never thought much of it before I saw one in the wild, and the size, mix of polished and brushed parts and the green crystal really gave it a great presence. They're listed on El Bay for $7,000 - $9,000 USD so I'm not so sure if the AD is giving you as good a deal as you can get elsewhere.
