  1. You are right. But you aren't going to know if the hands are on good until you lend a watch to someone with a two-handed back hand and see whether they return it with a hand or two at the bottom of the dial. This has only happened to me on two chrono's. They were the Asian 7750's and it hasn't happened in a couple of years. It actually ended up costing me a ton of money as my wife will never wear reps again.
  2. I have owned one in the past. They are great tool watches. It does wear big although not particularly more than say a 187. The one thing I would caution you on is that you have to buy them cheap because they are very difficult to resell. Generally, GP is a truly under-appreciated brand. I lump it in the same category as Jaeger - great brand with in-house movements but very difficult to move if you want to resell. New I think these are $8-9k. Used people were always asking around $4-5k but I think you have to buy it even cheaper than that.
  3. As we all know it is supply and demand. Often these watches come in lots of a couple of hundred. Think of all the Rolexes that sell for roughly the same prices or more and there are thousands of them. Those prices make no sense to me either but it is all relative. Relative to your pocketbook.
  4. Wow, fabulous watch. This one looks better and better. I am curious to know who the Fiddy Master is?
  5. I have to say that having spent years chasing down franken parts you really had me going for a while there. I was prepared to "bow down to the master." It was the "custom case back" that should have given it away. More importantly, congrats on a great gen.
  6. And now you can alternate bracelet and rubber.
  7. I am just not impressed. Nowhere near his last couple of offerings. I was truly impressed with the Submersibles.
  8. I keep coming back to this thread. Just an outrageous franken. The real question is which one does Burnz wear more proudly - the 305 or the 187. I guess the 187.
  9. Wow! Unbelievable. Wear that one well.
  10. They definitely come up from time to time so keep the eyes peeled..... I forgot to add. Check your PM....you snooze you loose.
  11. So the purpose of the story is to tell us you want to put out a Want to Buy for a bracelet Slevin? Then put out a WTB for a Slevin.
  12. I don't think the accuracy will be the same. Some have the wrong crown guard(162 for sure, perhaps 188 and 196 depending on series number). Some probably have wrong millesimation on the case back (xxx/500 when it should be 1500, etc.) and I also suspect different dials will be more accurate than others. I know that on the 162 it is still unclear whether the sub dials are exactly the right color. So pick carefully. But yes the overall quality should be about the same except that QC pics have shown some pieces to have better aligned crown guards than others, etc. The quick pusher changes the date. It requires a tool of some form to push the little button. A pencil actually suffices. So you should decide on your favorite one and research it.
  13. Is it gone now? The link doesn't appear to work. I take it he wanted $30,000.
  14. I would say be careful. I have found the biggest risk with sports and chrono's are the hands. They are not always secured as well as you would like on the corresponding pinion. More than once I have come back from playing tennis to find one or all of the hands lying at the bottom of the watch.
  15. It's all about the quality and amount of lume and of course the application. The main reason why Zig and Vac bring a typical rep much closer to gen is that they are using a true tritec super lume. That is what Panerai uses. Most reps use a lower end lume. Zig and Vac apply the lume by hand and that is why a good artistic hand is critical. Both rep and gen manufacturers (at least on non sandwich dials) are silk screening on the lume which enables them to ensure proper placement and even distribution. That is why a gen dial can look better - machine rather than free hand. Sandwich dials are another story. If you can properly mix the lume (a big if)anyone can do it. Here is what the under dial of a gen Fiddy looks like: What many people don't know is that there is an even better quality lume than what gen Panerai uses. Can't remember what it is called but it is way more expensive than super lume. Ziggy offers it to select customers but it is relatively rare, very expensive and actually puts the gen lume to shame.
  16. Wonderful piece amd well deserved by the owner. Wear that one well.
  17. My favorite of all time (but I am not sure where it is)is the very first highly modded MBW done by Ziggy. Next up would have to be my 2893/2's. I bought these from Honpo back in the day. Fast forward a few years and the only parts left from the original reps are the movements and case backs. And the other parts, they have gone off to fellow members as gifts. Pay it forward. My other fav but I can take no credit for it is the wonderful Ubi Daytona:
  18. I always wondered what happened to that project. I made the additional $3 deposit (or whatever it was) when it was announced but took a pass on the next installment. For once I got it right.
  19. No problem. Here is my '66 5512:
  20. My sympathies but whoever said Forums are a democracy. Doesn't matter whether you are right or wrong. I can't say I read the first thread but in this case you seem reasonable. They don't want yours or anyone else's opinion. They just want business to flow smoothly - it is a gen sales forum. I don't know why you waste any time on them other than to buy and sell gens. They have neither the time nor the inclination to debate the merits of your's or anyone else's membership. It is obviously the wrong forum for you (and me). They don't like you and you don't like them - get over it and move on. Obviously a number of our esteemed members have.
