  1. Tourby- Look at the bright side. If I remember correctly you own a few of those movements. Looks like you made an excellent investment.
  2. This is very interesting. I have treated my AR coated crystals fairly poorly (whacked them against a wall, etc - by accident of course) and the coating has remained fully intact. Even after all of Chief's warnings on the single coated process I tried that and it was pretty resilient. Good to see that the solution is at hand. I would like to know what process takes off AR coat in a few minutes. Every time I have done it it is laborious.
  3. Looks great. With that movement it is a classic. Wear it proudly. You have a rare and beautiful piece - a WIS's PAM. Now that you have a gen here is a fun idea. Throw it on and wander down to 47th street. There are 2-3 large-scale dealers with tremendous inventory (both new and old). When they see your wrist they will want you to try on everything. Their prices vary from decent to horrible but it is the best way to try every model you have ever wondered about and then figure what, if anything, to buy.
  4. Piece looks great. I am sure you are sorry to see it go. Repaustria- Do you think that someone relumed the dial in tritium? I have a few watches that could use that. I had assumed that it was no longer done.
  5. Definitely a project to be proud of. Wear it well.
  6. No guts no glory guys. If you have any concerns whip out that dremel with the grinding wheel.
  7. Admin, quite an accomplishment. Congrats!
  8. Looking very nice. You will have a great watch when you are done.
  9. Absolutely a step in the right direction. And if you listen to the more knowledgeable members here it will become a must-have watch. This is one I would love to own.
  10. Assuming you are talking about the date between 4 and 5 there is no fix. There is a plate above the datewheel on that configuration. And a 7753 doesn't help you unless you have a dial made specifically for the 7753 movement with the correct date window placement.
  11. Strange dents? Somebody whacked it. I am sure Andrew will send you another CG and they just screw right on and off. If he doesn't they are readily available from dealers.
  12. And I was looking forward to your new handmade straps.
  13. Congratulations to all my fellow blithering idiots. We have managed to rant and rave for 20 pages and still no watch. Perhaps we should get a clue.
  14. You never know who is allergic to what. I completely forgot that the Cape Cod "tin" comes with a pair of surgical gloves.
  15. That is what the Chinese manufacturers use.
  16. Aluminium - A word that the EU made up.
  17. Here is an attempt to put this issue to bed. IMHO, there is no question that the case of the 3717 is steel - not aluminum. This is based on conversations with a certain materials expert with a lot of experience with steel, aluminum and other materials used in the aviation industry. . Beyond that, the weight is consistent with the gen based on my running over to an AD and trying it on having worn the rep on the way over - seriously. So I cannot attest that the weight is exact but there would be a big difference if a significant portion of the watch were aluminum. Aluminum is a lot lighter. Second factoid, Aluminum does not allow for the same level of polish as stainless and when you do get it to a highly polished form it will show every scratch. Although there is a finite amount of polished surface on the watch try the polished ring on the case back. If you still are not convinced feel free to try this test. Screw off the case back and either apply a dremel or put it on a grinding wheel briefly (the inner surface please as I don't want any "I ruined my watch and it is all your fault!" ). The sparks on high quality stainless steel will be a bright white. Lesser steel should send of a yellow color. Aluminum will not send off any sparks. And no a magnet is not helpful. Ever tried to stick a refrigerator magnet on a high quality SS refrigerator?
  18. Very admirable project. Looking forward to seeing the finished result.
  19. He is either playing coy or really rich. On the SS models I have encountered a number of people for whom their PAM was an impulse purchase. They had no idea what they bought. Either they saw one in an AD and it struck them or one of their friends had one and they had to have one too.
