  1. Very nice watch and pics. I have been wearing mine lately as well. It actually fits under a shirt sleeve tooh.
  2. I got mine from Puretime. The only true systemic flaw I am aware of is the alignment of the inner rotating bezel with the dial. It will always be a half click off from aligned due to a lack of the proper amount of teeth. Mine did not have too bad a day/date misalignment as is. I have found the AR to be fine in normal wear and it does look fairly good.
  3. Looks great. You are going to find that the more watches Ziggy mods the more keepers you have. But wear this one well!
  4. Loving the 188. Wear them well. I have a couple more coming back from Ziggy shortly I hope and will add to the mod-mania. By the way my 188 and 196 are headed in shortly for the crown upgrade as well as a dial upgrade in the case of the 188 as well.
  5. Well guys, I can make you feel better. I tried an experiment and posted a review both here and on the dark side this summer (I think it was the 7753 187) when this place was off-line for a day or two and at least a few members posted responses here. On RWI there was one response and it had nothing to do with the review itself. But yes, anyone who goes to the trouble to read a review should at least post an "atta boy" so they are encouraged to do more. And to all the vets, we have to remember to encourage the newer members so they will do it again. Flow of information is one of the things that makes the forum great and it has definitely slowed down over the past few months.
  6. Actually, I don't think there is anything wrong with posting interesting items. It is done all the time and this is a service to other members who want one. No one is going to have an exclusive and we are a very small part of the vintage movement population anyhow. For instance, I know of at least a dozen people on this forum and the purist forums who have every listing with Angelus pop up on their ebay screen. It did on mine. Now I am not a bidder as it is too rich for my blood but I will also add that with the current technology you never know what the real price is until it ends anyhow. Sniping is now the the norm for hot items. So you may as well let everyone know. Now if it is your friend who is bidding that is another story.
  7. Thanks to all for your comments. I have been working on and off on the 2892/3 foursome for quite some time. The next one is the 63 which I am hoping to see in the next couple of weeks, then the PR's - 27 and finally the 28. It would be miraculous if they are all finished by the end of the year. Dadog- If you have gone to the trouble to swap the datewheel I recommend swapping the cyclops. BCG- How you go about it depends on how psychotic you are about these things. What I didn't show you was the movement and spacer ring. On the first version which was largely sold by Honpo and a few to our dealers they went to the trouble of having excellent engraving and perlage done on the rotor, spacer, etc. But you will also fine "Officine" is missing an i. IMHO, it is the equivalent of the P on Polex on an MBW. Back to the GMT, this particular version has no AR on the crystal, is individually serialized and typically has a number below 100. Subsequently folks made the 2893/2893 (and 2836 GMTs) with both standard caseback numbers and an undecorated movement. In any case, mine has a Lello datewheel and they are available from him (for the Power Reserve as well I might add). The cyclops is an original Watchmaster's project. We did sell out but there are still ones around. I have a few if you are really going to this same length. There have been better versions of cyclops made by other people but this particular one with warts and all (limited viewing angle, appearance of double ring when looking straight on, etc.) is very true to the original 29. I have compared the cyclops on the gen with these cyclops. The crown is a gen crown from the group buy which is about to wrap up and I am convinced these are the actual crowns that were used for the 29. The CG is a Jimmy which is now very rare but what I have learned subsequently is that although Jimmy's are very rare and go for ridiculous amounts of money there are certain reps which have very close cg's. The 27 2892 PR is a good example. I am doing that one next and I am not replacing the CG in spite of the fact I have Jimmy's. And no they are not for sale at any price. I will simply add a rubber sleeve to the pin on that one. Hope that helps. If you have any more specific questions please send a PM. We don't need to bore the broader audience.
  8. Not to be a dumb ass but how does one know it will fit in a typical case. I do see it is a wind/set crown (term of art - ). Or is the answer you just make a custom spacer ring?
  9. It is definitely fantasy but it looks pretty nice. I was always partial to the ti Chrono Avenger with white dial.
  10. You are nicer than I. I probably would have started laughing. Although the thought of your mother-in-law running out with the watch is somewhat more horrifying. I am glad it wasn't your mother.
  11. Well, you know what they say "No pain, no gain". A heartfelt thanks to all who are stepping up and those who have been supporters prior to this appeal. As has been said the purpose of this thread is not to guilt people into giving. It is to make sure people recognize that T and the forum have been under siege from a number of different angles and this is the time where we need concerned people to step up. Long live RWG.
  12. D- My heart goes out to you. Unfortunately I am familiar with the loss of a parent due to cancer. In my case our respective ages were 56 and 24 and it was a multi-year disease. It is not fair when life deals these horrible blows. Just be glad he saw you live to adulthood and revel in your nice memories. My father did see me graduate college and get married. I know that gave him whatever peace he could find in the last painful days. What I learned is that at the end of the day what you leave behind when you leave this world is your family and children. Love them and treasure them and be glad that your father passed away knowing that he had passed on his legacy to you. And now the burden is on you to be strong for you mother and family. I know it will be difficult but I found that was an important part of my healing. I hope it is thus for you. As always, all the best, W
  13. I vote for 3717 on bracelet. IMHO, it is reasonably sized and is a comfortable to wear bracelet watch. Wait for a decent version of the Big Pilot. The current version needs some help. I own a Portuguese rep but never wear it. Having seen what you already own on the forum the Portu Chrono will feel insubstantial. Even the gen which feels very different from the rep wears small if you have been wearing PAM's. I don't consider that particular watch or the BP to be in the same league as other IWC reps.
  14. All-in including movement swap and relume it is probably close to $750 so not cheap. However the gen is $5-6k and the Swiss version of the rep is over a $1,000 and that doesn't have relume or the better day/date wheels. Not for the faint of heart but most satisfying.
  15. Well good morning to both of you. I hope you have made a full recovery and please pass on my regards.
  16. Nice to see you back on the forum. As you can see you were sorely missed. I would hate to see your PM or email box. My condolences to your fabulous assistant.
  17. There is nothing to clarify. This site survives with limited traditional advertising revenue. Reps are illegal in most places and the higher the profile the bigger the problems. Admin's funding sources have been systematically cut off for exactly these reasons. Now factor in that you do have to have a more expensive off-shore server set-up to avoid being turned off and a good amount of bandwidth consumption. Voila - the problem. Now if your feeling is let it die another one will pop up anyhow I can't answer that. What I can't fathom is your having to ask what is the value of this place. If you really can't answer it than you are in the wrong place. And it is not about the money. Folks who care about this place and can afford it will do what they can to ensure its existence. Those who don't won't. Well, that was a waste of time. I see he is already gone.
  18. Wow Mezz- Not quite sure where to begin. But here we go. If you don't see the value of the forum you shouldn't pay anything. But then I don't understand why you are hanging around here at all. IMHO, I would rather have a forum with 20 interesting and interested people and the small membership footing the entire bill than a forum of folks like you. You are all about me, me, me... I can't tell you why this is better or worse than a 1,000 other forums as I don't spend any virtual time on any other forum. I discovered this one by accident. Over my time here I have made a few very fine friends and a number of interesting acquaintances. The friends I have made would do anything they could for each other. That is priceless. The watch info is interesting too but that is not what has me spending time here. Once you have a list of dealers in theory you would never have to come back. Now let me ask you a few questions. Even if you feel relationships are worthless, has this forum ever helped you find a certain watch, an honest dealer or saved you from buying a bad watch? If the answer is yes than give back to the community. If the answer is no and you don't want to contribute your share to the community because you don't feel like you are a part of the community than perhaps you are in the wrong one.
  19. The Muller Vegas is a must. It costs all of $150.00 and the roulette function is better than on the gen. Two friends who had big nights in Vegas (they were not suffering to begin with though) bought the gen gold version in the Caesar's Shopping Mall. Pick up the stainless. You may not have won 50k but theoretically you just won 20k, you picked up the watch, a couple of first class ladies and even bought the wife a gift. You good husband you.
  20. I am agnostic. You make a perfect dial and I will build the watch around it.
  21. Cable box when at home. Cell phone when on the road.
  22. The issue with "Asian 7750" is that it refers to numerous movements made in numerous factories. The original ones had horrible reliability problems and a tendency for hand slippage but its parts were interchangeable with the Swiss 7750. The newer ones are made at at least 3 different factories that I am aware of. I am sure there are others. Usually the issues are less about the components and more about assembly. In general I have found that watches which use Asian 7750's are very reliable for non-chrono functions. If you take a look around the forum you will find that the newer models require service but then they function very nicely. IMHO, it is not that the newer movements are bad. The issue is that you have to factor in a possible service to ensure reliability and when you add that to the cost of one of the "super reps" this gets expensive.
  23. Well, at 500 hours and $40,000 of car and phones this guy was making $800 per hour for his work. Now that is a profitable IT job. And if it does get him laid - priceless.
  24. I got the day and date wheel through Ziggy. If you are in fact booked to do this with him I would suggest you let him know in advance so he can order the parts. People have been able to source them for less than his supplier on these particular items so you can go that route. I know he is indifferent as he sells the parts for his cost. In truth when I saw all these wonderful IWC's coming down the path I ordered several sets of black and white. I do usually swap the movements for my older 17j movements but I have always wondered whether the day/date wheels line up as nicely if you use the original movement.
