  1. Too funny. I had the same thought and the hole drives me nuts as well. The only thing with the 104 is that you are going to have to "satinize" both the case and the bezel.
  2. A timeless classic and still one of the better reps out there.
  3. Fabulous historical significance and I love the dial but not one of my favorite models aesthetically.
  4. I know there is logic somewhere. But where I don't know.
  5. Is this for you? If it is for a woman I would add that I was a witness to the trend of women wearing Daytonas when I was in the Carribean a few months ago. Between St Barts and St Martin I "came across" several women wearing the white face on metal bracelet and in most cases - nothing else, literally. And these folks were tanned "everywhere. " Even my wife commented (on the tan that is ) A WIS' wet dream.
  6. They are apples and oranges. I would be curious to know whether you have any other PAM's or Omegas in your collection. I have no idea how close the moonwatch is but the 183 is pretty darn close to gen. Also do you mind having to wind your watch every day and a half?
  7. Great review. I have been wanting to buy this watch but my main concerns were rehaut and size of the inner bezel and dial versus the gen. It appears to me that the dial looks smaller and the inner bezel looks wider and deeper on the rep. I have never seen the gen though. Has anyone taken a close look?
  8. Cray- I was worried about the little screws too. I actually got a spare bracelet for just this problem on the first version. I have been giving them one at a time to friends who lose a screw. On the new one I immediately loctited in all the screws. Moving the larger cross from one to the other is a great idea. I will have to look at that.
  9. Cray- Can you name another sport where you burn 6-10,000 calories per day, keep your heart rate at 170-200 bpm for several hours at a time and then have to make sure not to crash at anywhere from 30-70 miles per hour from a 17 pound bike? Now do this for 20 days in a row. And that is one race. In this case you are on a team but on this team everyone on the team is working 100% of the time. No changing of lines or timeouts. And yes these folks aren't the biggest and the baddest. What they are are some of the fittest men on the planet. The amount of energy a professional cyclist can generate over an extended period of time dwarfs virtually every other sport. Only comparable sport would be a triathlon and you don't do twenty in a twenty four day period. And we wonder why so many dope.
  10. Some pepole love cycling and others hate it. In my case, it is the only sport I watch religiously. What other sport requires the same level of effort as a triathlon for 21 days in a row, incessant teamwork and has all the elements of a game of chess. Make no mistake, with or without doping, cyclists are the most fit people on the planet. Watching a man climb a major Alp or ride against the clock is EPIC. Mere mortals cannot imagine. And it comes from hardwork not simply being a physical freak. IMHO, every other sport pales in comparison. And I am an ignorant American.
  11. Looks great. I have the same one but elected to polish the bezel in spite of having the wrong (contemporary) dial. The 24 with numbers only on the bezel is the A version and the dial should not have metal rings around the hour markers. You can go either way.
  12. Cray- If you liked the original version this is a must have. Size and proportions are perfect. Bracelet is as good as the first version. With the screw down crown and ETA movement this one should be a lifelong keeper.
  13. I will take the bet that Landis did not dope (at least not this Tour). No one who has been tested six times over the course of the Tour, has seen all his contemporaries thrown out prior to it starting and has elected to give the Tour one more shot before replacing a hip is going to knowingly take any illegal aid.
  14. Beautiful watch. I bought one from a forum member and I have to say this one is incredibly close to gen right out of the box. With the screw down crown I have been using it as my swim watch for the summer. The box is fabulous. IMHO, one of the two or three best reps out of the box. The date font is a little lacking but aren't they all. Wear it well. A fabulous rep and welcome break from the typical Rolex or Panerai.
  15. Thomas- My heart goes out to you. Something similar happened to me 20 years ago when New York was still dangerous. I was visiting a friend in a sketchy neighborhood and go robbed at gunpoint. He got away with some money and a 1960's gold Oyster. I don't know where you file your taxes but in the U.S. if you file a stolen items report and get a note from the seller as to the worth you can deduct it from your taxes as a loss so the loss was only 50%. Don't even know if that is still true in the U.S. but maybe it is true in whatever jurisdiction you file your taxes so you can recover some of the value that way. Most importantly, glad you are alright. All the best, kruzer PS Do you still access to that AP quartz movement? My wife wants to start wearing it again.
  16. I own it and love it. The simple flaw is that there is a hole in the side of the case for the date adjustment which is how all the Asian 21j adjust when there is a Power Reserve version. The funny part is that it could be made with a 7750 and a couple of extra gears. That is what is in the gen uses. Awesome watch and well priced though.
  17. DW 6263 (Compliments of UBI) MBW 1665 (Tribalized and Ziggified, plenty of OEM parts) 7753 196 (lumed but awaiting datewheel and crown) 2893 gmt (lumed, new cyclops, Lello crown but awaiting Palp crown and datewheel) New VC Overseas (Pretty damn fabulous out of the box) Oops, that is five.
  18. Real. You can fix the crown and the datewheel but you can't fix the way too thin font on all the hour numbers nor the shine on the rep dial (although the flat look on the gen may be from a good AR coat). Look above. As I say this I own the rep above. The 196 (other than the elongated marker at 6) is far closer with the matte dial and close to proper font on the numbers.
  19. Not to confuse the matter but: Anyone want to spell tachymeter? Black one in catalogue is consistent. White isn't. Someone please show a pic of the gens if they are being sold yet. Lest we forget, there is more than one watch in the Panerai Catalogue that shows a prototype. Look at the engraving on the 217 movement relative to the crown guard lever? Is it upside down or isn't it.
  20. The GMT is the one Ziggy used for the how to.
  21. Looks great. Mine is done to the exact same extent. It is on a brown Incursore 5218 though. And yes I have the same magnification on the date and so he did leave the second lens on it. I have a GMT without the second lens and it looks like you would expect.
  22. If I might suggest, buy yourself a gen 111 instead.
