  1. My faith in humanity is restored.
  2. Unfortunately I don't think it fit the better cases. But I still believe this issue goes away with the ultimate version whenever it comes out.
  3. Now that another innocent buyer has been saved let us turn to the more interesting question. Sander, please tell us you were not hunting for a gen with a diamond bezel.
  4. Great info for those of us who have ever contemplated a franken.
  5. oh how quickly we all forget. Don't forget 492. The number that began it all.
  6. Hope springs eternal. This is going to be a big AP year for me.
  7. If I were a betting man the new fIddy (when it does come out) will have unique serial numbers. All the other recent PAM models did and this is the one where people are the most sensitive.
  8. I think he is asking whether $5500 is a fair price. Just take a look on EBay at completed listings. The other question is whether you want to buy an earlier model with polished bezel. But that is a matter of personal preference.
  9. A fair number of people know the feeling but when you are done you will have a lifetime keeper. So soldier on and enjoy the noodles.
  10. Very nice. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
  11. They are available in 22mm. It was the standard deployant in the F series year. That one came with my 162. It is smaller and more comfortable than the next generation and for that reason I don't see them come up for sale very often. But when it comes to the more contemporary versions of the deployant some of those reps are really good. I don't think I would buy one as gen other than seeing it in person or getting it from an AD.
  12. Pete- Awesome post. I can never tell the difference between the better reps and the gen. And so I never have any idea what I am wearing when I where that generation of depoyant. My solution...avoid confusion.
  13. On Phong I am with Freddy. If you are willing to pay his prices some of his parts are excellent. But the watchsmithing skills over there are non-existent.
  14. I bought mine from Ubi and it came with George's case if I remember correctly. I don't think that particular one is made anymore but it compares very favorably with the gen case set. Ubi's other case is a gen set if you look at his pics. Add a gen bezel, crystal and pushers and you are good to go. I have to agree with Chief. Go with gen pinions. it changes the whole feel of the movement. Mine feels so much more solid when setting. The winding is a little dodgy but you won't be going nuts over your sub-dial hands not reseting correctly.
  15. Oops, missed that one. Put me down for the next one.
  16. I suspect you know a lot more than I. I do have that 8001 2892 rep. When I saw what Ziggy could do with the dials I bought a few from the eBay lady. What I know I know from a combination of stopping by the boutique and another long gone member who loved FM's. He amassed dozens of dials in the hope that various reps would come and was nice enough to offer dials for projects to me. He knew every old school model including the movements. As you know once you get beyond the basic 2892 models you start getting into some unique movements. Many are based on ETA ebauches but you then have to figure out exactly what movement you are looking for and what cheap watch had it.
  17. There is none right now. EL's was the best one. And in truth with a clear case back none are going to be that great. There is a rumored new version coming out but no sense on the timing other than this year.
  18. The dealers are dealing with as best they can. I reached out to Josh today via email and was responded to very quickly. If you know what you want to buy they now provide QC pics of your watch prior to sending so you are good to go.
  19. There is nothing wrong with Seafoam checking here first. Sounds like Spin has already reached out to the buyer and it will be fixed. No one should be afraid to ask if what they got is as advertised. He was not saying Spin is untrustworthy. In fact because Spin has an excellent reputation the buyer wanted to be sure his watch smith was right before going back to complain.
  20. If you post reasonably regularly and have a somewhat unique screen name go plug it into Google and no gen person will ever deal with you.
  21. That is interesting on the Crazy Hours. On the older Conquistador they were classic properly blued hands ala Breguest, etc. I live down the street from the Muller Boutique so I get to see all of them. Does the Crazy Hours use the same electric blue they use on the Mariner.I do wish they would rep that piece. It is my current favorite. By the way I am very jealous of those gens.
  22. Depends on the country. But for most countries it is not illegal to buy or own them. It is illegal to sell them. So unless you are buying a whole bunch where I suppose they could accuse of intent to distribute it should be no problem. If I remember correctly there are countries in the EU where it is illegal to buy them but someone else can pipe in from the EU.
  23. The Hublot factory is the factory which has made the best of the Hublots for quite a while and the Noobfactory made the original Noobmariners. They both branched out into Panerai.
