  1. Nice to finally see the SMP back on your wrist again J I must admit I'm suprised that you went for the quartz, they're usually bashed here but I understand your reasoning completely, especially if you got it for a really good price I just received a rep SMP (not from the dealer we discussed J) and it made me realise how much better the gen is compared to the rep. The dial was nice, but I wasn't impressed at all with the insert, it has a submariner-type pearl, and the quality of the bracelet is nowhere close to the gen. I would say that if you really like this model, going gen is the only option
  2. You can purchase an aftermarket insert on the bay and remove the pearl to glue onto your insert. The downside to the UPO is that the pearl is glued onto the bezel and not the insert, so dealers might find it difficult to source pearls. Wouldn't hurt to ask though.
  3. Damn, that is crazy! Less than a quarter.. Well it was J&A who started selling them at this price and still do today, but then again, some are of the opinion its the factories who sets the price
  4. Yes very!! Quite amazing how they finished this one so well, this "Panda" dial is really nice in person. That salmon dial DJ looks really unique, very nice but I don't think I could ever pull it off!
  5. Thanks By-Tor Glad to finally have a Ebel on my wrist after all these years
  6. New acquisition for me too:
  7. Well there you go.. hard to beat that great deal. Get one TmeShare, you won't regret it.
  8. A little update I received my Discovery this morning.. I'm very impressed. I was afraid the white dial would put me off, but this dial looks so nice, love the "Panda" design. It looks great both with long sleeves and short, I'm wearing it with a t-shirt right now and it looks really good. A couple of quick and dirty shots I took when I got it:
  9. You need to get the UPO rubber strap (ultimate), sells for $68 from J&A, other dealers probably charge a little less. Excellent strap I must say.
  10. Thats what people probably think of me when I wear my Nautilus (those that can recognise it )
  11. Thanks for the responses guys. This time the silver bracelet was put inside on its own, but in the past I have put in a couple of watch bracelets together. I'll be sure to not to do so again in the future.
  12. I say left is genuine based on the rehaut and DW font.
  13. I cleaned a couple of watch bracelets and silver bracelets today as I wanted to try out some ultrasonic solution that arrived today. I'm looking at my silver bracelet now, and there seems to be some scratches that are quite deep on some of the links. When I run my fingernail over them I can feel them, they look like the swirlies/scratches our clasps get after some time of regular use. Is it possible that the Ultrasonic cleaner could have done this, say for example if the bracelet links were touching each other, and the vibration caused the scratches? I've also noticed smaller marks on watch bracelet clasps in the past when I have cleaned them with my Ultrasonic cleaner.
  14. I used to use these and they are definitely handy for polishing small areas which would be tricky for a dremel. The main reason I prefer the dremel method over cape cod is that cape cod leaves fine scratches behind. They are unavoidable, even if you use cape cod with a dremel it still leaves fine scratches behind. These are not easy to see in normal light, but under strong light they're visible. Red rouge is not meant to be used on steel, its made for use on precious metals like gold and silver, its been used in the jewellery trade for years. I use 3 compounds; green, blue and pink and each one has its own wheel varying in softness.
  15. Sead is a CONUS based dealer active on repgeek. He is currently sourcing a 42mm gen ETA PO which looks to be a very good rep. It has corrected certain flaws found on the old "4th gen" 42mm ETA PO.
  16. Damn.. you got lucky bro. I paid $240 delivered for that exact same SMP from him, but it had a clone ETA movement. I think that this SMP is made by the same maker who makes the UPO, or the makers of the insert for the UPO and this SMP are the same, they have exactly the same pearl
  17. Woah, thanks for the movement pic, that definitely looks like a gen ETA to me. I thought it was clone because of the datefont, that isn't ETA datefont, but for some reason they transferred the datewheel used in clone ETA movements into a real ETA movement. Did you pay extra for the ETA movement, or did you pay his web price?
  18. I bought this exact same watch from Silix many months ago.. it came with a clone ETA movement.. the datefont on yours is not ETA, it was the same as mine. This is now the SMP that the majority of dealers are selling, I haven't seen a SMP by a different factory being sold now for quite some time. Nevertheless its a very nice watch and IMO much better than the previous commonly available ETA SMP. @Rolexman: The end links are multi-piece and the bracelet has screws.
  19. IMO just enjoy the watch as it is, as pointed out above its going to be a real hassle to upgrade it with gen parts and ETA movement.
  20. Movement is an asian manual wind.
  21. Indians and Rado's.. I only know too well about this trend. I wear my gen Integral at social gatherings too sometimes.. cos thats the only watch from my collection that will be recognised! Nah but seriously welcome to the boards and enjoy you're stay here. You're soon going to find you're bank account is emptying fast, unless you're very careful
  22. Many suggest Cape cod, and it does work, but I much prefer the finish that a dremel and proper polishing compounds gives. The dremel method requires a bit more practice and you need to be more careful, but it becomes easy after you use it a few times.
