Been down to the Harrods room a few times, I also really like the Selfridges room. Tried a couple Navis on at Harrods, and a Cosmonaute and a PO at Selfridges (before I bought a 42mm rep!). Check out some of the more unusual watches too, Selfridges has a limited edition Chopard tourbillon (the last unsold one I was told) for a cool GBP85k...
I'd say #1, but from the alignment of the numbers / pearl in the bezel. They are far enough off-center to bug someone who knows nothing about what a BCE should look like. Then after that datefont etc... it does look very close though.
Oh no, photos! This thread needs to be marked "not safe while eating"!!
Well I suppose someone out there must like how it looks if they are willing to spend that much money on it. Suits me fine. If we all found the same girls attractive dating would be much harder.
Looking very carefully at my 42mm... the date window on the dial above actually looks too far to the RIGHT for that datewheel, if it was where the date window on my 42mm is, then the dial above is almost as big as my PO's bezel. It's a 45mm.
I've been looking at my PO orange dial and thinking that it would look awesome with gold applied logo and hour marker outlines.
I would love a gold PO rep. Love love love one.
Hmm, well in that case I'd rather keep the existing dial with the slightly low Omega logo. Can't bring myself to pay $222 for the gen dial, that's what I paid for the watch...
Ummm, why not? The OP is buying the watch, not his dad. I don't know about you, but my dad has a lot more money than I do, and I would find it hard to buy a gen to match what my dad drives.
Besides, quite a few guys in this game drive expensive cars and wear reps.
I'm thinking:
- Tag Carrera if he's a little older or dresses more sporty.
- Tag Link (either Chrono or non-Chrono) if he's a little younger, or dresses more business casual.
- Rolex Yachtmaster
- Omega Planet Ocean 42mm black bezel, orange dial
How big / tall is your father?
How old is he?
How does he tend to dress?
What colour is his A8?
How was the dial / pearl on the 3rd Gen, By-Tor? I remember reading that the hands were better too, is it worth getting a 3rd and 4th gen and putting the best parts together to make an ultimate 42mm? I am planning to get gen hands, but the gen dial is really expensive...
I've read a few places about the "RBJ" mod involving moving / repositioning the logo. Is this as simple as removing the applied logo from the dial and regluing it slightly higher? Can any watchmaker do this? Just wondering as it makes an appealing alternative to buying a $222 gen dial from Ofrei...
Does this basically mean that the dimensions of the dials for the 42mm and 45.5mm (or at least the printed / applied parts of the dial) are almost the same?
