Nixie tubes in a watch! It doesn't get any geekier than that... unless there is a calculator function.

I know the strap from Silix fits, and it might be 1:1 but in the photos I've seen it looks cheap. The gen rubber strap is a ridiculous ripoff at $500 but it is very high quality, I was hoping to get something a little closer for my $50.

Absolutely, it was just a "fixed up" Mustang. That car's favorite thing to do was go sideways.

Those are pretty frikken sweet. I had a supercharged Saleen for a while, but I get TONS more female attention in my current 75 horesepower ride--not that it does me any good.

I remember my grandma telling me how crazy kids were buying jeans with holes in them back in the 80's--I was pretty shocked since I was a good job putting holes in them myself for free. Here I am 20 years later:

I stopped by the post office at lunch, had something waiting for me from the Far East: Sorry for the cameraphone. -
Uniqlo is awesome but the only one in the U.S. is in SoHo, NYC. Not too far from Canal Street actually.

Hey, buying in bulk is an American tradition.

Cheers mates, I'm drowning my sorrows tonight. Never heard of Bundy but it has a nice familiar looking bottle... BTW, that's a cheap shot putting a checkpoint downhill from a brewery!

Please, who is the one whining here? These things are illegal copies made at the ABSOLUTE lowest cost humanly possible. Who cares who did what to them once they left the "factory"; it's not like they were assembled by master craftspeople in a clean room. All the OP wants is a reasonable option for making them run half as good as they look.

I tried Cooper's once, they sell it at Outback Steakhouse--damn it sucks being a Yank sometimes. What kind of hard liqour do you guys like over there?

I'm wearing this to work, I know because I'm sleeping in it. No one cares but me though. -
I just switch to straight Gordon's, damn it's nasty on its own, but on the brght side I stoppeed caring hpw it tastes/.

Sounds great....

I'll give it a shot, never even bothered to try a "good" gin before. At the moment I am enjoying Gordons, vodka, and a dash of Lillet with a twist.

Canal Street is fun but I wouldn't buy a Panerai there. Maybe if you get invited into one of the secret back rooms? Next time I'm there I'll probably pick up something in the $40-$50 range just for fun. Don't ask "how much" untill you find one you really want, then start the bargaining from $20 or so. Good luck!

Twenty inch neck! Is that you, Henry Rollins?

Be careful, it can be addictive. Two years ago I would not have paid more than $60; now I think my AVERAGE price is around $200. I don't really care about the brand name, it's the fit and denim quality that makes me shell out three bills for some stupid pants.

How do you select the watches to buy....?
doc savage replied to capice's topic in General Discussion
I don't think I would buy a watch smaller than 45mm anymore; that really narrows it down. Luisik, I'm curious, why wouldn't you wear a rep of a watch costing less than $4,000? I have a standing offer of 45% off retail for any gen Tag or Omega; so my Planet Ocean Big Size would have cost me around $1600. Even adding the cost of double AR, Superlume, and a logo swap, the UPO is a far better value in my book--enough cash left over to buy three nice reps or ten fun ones. To me, it isn't that people will think I can't afford a $3000-$8000 watch; I have always been teased for having expensive tastes and indulging them. It's more a case of not wanting to seem too bourgeois, wasting thousands on status symbols like I have something to prove. I try to buy things that have a classic look, expensive but not flashy or loud in any way; like my car for example. Timeless lines, costly (but a good investment), and 100% fake (but modded with gen parts). -
Another historic time piece: The 'Saigon special' Seiko Sportsmatic

Very cool watch, nice find. -
I really like the keeper.

Thanks Corgi, but where's the gun? I think this watch is perfect for times when you wouldn't wear something too expensive. And as a quartz, it keeps great time!

Well, the UPO was temporarily replaced by a newcomer; I'll have to wear this while hitting the shops this morning: But I'll switch back to the UPO for dinner--it's Katsuya on Hollywood and Vine.

I ordered this watch almost as a novelty--I have been wanting to try out the Instrument series for a while and ever since I first saw the Phantom I knew I had to have one. What a marvelously impractical variation of a watch that seems designed to be the ultimate in readability! I'm not going to spoil this review by posting photos of the real Phantom. Anyone that is aware that replicas of Bell & Ross watches exist will know this timepiece for what it is; I bought this for it's own merits and not to try to fool anyone. So I'll get the "flaws" out of the way first: 1) No lume whatsoever. Nada. In the dark it dissapears... like magic! Stealth Mode! Perfect for ninjas or people afraid of radiation. 2) Mineral crystal with NO AR coating. 3) Quartz movement. Tic, tic, tic, tic.... 4) Subdials are wrong. The rep has running seconds at six and a 24 hour dial at three. Also, the gen has no date window. 5) Brushed finish with shiny bevels--I understand the real deal is flat black all over. 6) Shiny dark gray dial print--The gen black lume is about the same color but much duller. I have brightened some of the photos to show detail, in person it looks pretty much black-on-black. 7) Caseback is a joke. It has phony screws, a typo, and the laser engraving looks printed on. Even the expensive rep BR casebacks are a joke if you have ever seen how deep and crisp the gen engraving is. Alright, on to the good stuff. CQout seller Skimlace was my choice for this purchase, it cost me
