  1. Yes, there are "watch review sites" that exist solely to promote the replica selling sites that they recommend, because they are run by the same people. Sucks, huh? You could just go here: dealer sites and start shopping, but your best bet is to search, read, repeat. And whether or not a given site is a "scam site" or not is a little misleading. The basic "lite" reps cost very little from the vendors in China, but the scam sites will show you a photo of a genuine watch, call it a "Number One Best Quality Super Swiss Italian Lemania ETA 100% 1:1 AAAAAAAAA++++++ Replica" and send you a $15 POS. You are lucky you made it here before you bought anything. Just take your time and read through the IWC section, all the hard work has been done already.
  2. It's funny how forums give the immature among us a voice, and funnier still how that voice can spoil your day sometimes. I think your auction was a cool way to do something positive, very big of you.
  3. You don't need the bracelet, but you would need a gen insert, hands, dial, double AR crystal, and caseback to make a "perfect" rep. By the time you have it all installed....
  4. Looks like it sold for about $1750--not a bad deal if it was real.
  5. Hmm, I guess we should worry about the Hublot police storming the next GTG?
  6. Yes, but not really as something to wear with a suit.
  7. Five hours to go, I reported it as a phony. Is it an automated process, like craigslist's flagging system?
  8. Lately I can spot the low pearl on the UPO from across the room, I kinda want a gen insert. I informed the seller, maybe they were duped but that story about it being an exchange does give them an easy way out. They claim it even has some factory warranty left!
  9. Whoa, THAT is nice. I'm sure we will se more of it, right?
  10. Yikes. I have known people from various cultures who like to grab your hand (or both hands) to talk to you. It's not so bad when it's a female, but it's still very odd to our American sensibilities. The worst was an Iranian business associate who liked to almost touch foreheads when he spoke to you.
  11. Someone always has it worse--J&J also makes a urinary catheter.
  12. I ordered it from a wholesaler, as part of a larger order, mainly out of curiosity since he told me he could get ANY box and I didn't think it was available. If it actually shows up, then you can assume it is "out there" in Guangzhou and any dealer could get you one.
  13. For my big wrist, the UPO and the 127 pretty much get the job done. Especially the UPO--I don't think I would have had the heart to send my FIddy off to the modder if it wasn't here to fill in! Daily beater/smart casual: As for sporty--I LOVE my Phantom but the readability is a joke between the lack of AR and the lack of lume. And the SLR is nice but it's just too light and thin for me, it gets passed over for the UPO everytime. I haven't found my dress watch yet.
  14. Those threads pretty much prove my point, not yours. It is made of a different, cheaper rubber than the gen. It attracts dust, like every other cheap rep strap, the gen does not. There is obvious flashing on the sides where the mold was not fit together properly. The metal on the buckle has a rough finish in the photo. There are reports of buckles with the logo off center. I have ordered a Silix strap, because of members reports that they are happy with it despite the flaws; that doesn't mean I wouldn't rather have a better one.
  15. I ordered a rep Hublot box+papers, it's on the slow boat from China right now. I'll post some photos when it gets here.
  16. When my oldest son was about 14 months old, he was diagnosed with autism; I was 19 at the time. Now he is 12 and is classified as "high functioning"; he is starting to attend regular classes and it is hoped that he will someday support himself. My younger son was diagnosed a year later, and now at the age of 11 he functions at the level of a two-year-old. It is believed that in addition to autism he has suffered mild brain damage due to epilepsy. I know what it's like to try to imagine your child's future, and to deal with some very harsh realities. I can only imagine what my life would have been like if I never heard the word "autism"; perhaps I would have finished college, stayed married, who knows. I was truly glad and relieved to read that your son was misdiagnosed; not many people can appreciate what you must have gone through in the meantime--I know that words cannot express it.
  17. Movado I bought my Bell&Ross from this dealer; shipped from China in about 5 days.
  18. I'm going to watch Darjeeling right now; been looking forward this one as I'm a huge Anderson fan.
  19. It was awesome--made me want to get off the grid myself!
  20. Thanks, I get it, the Silix strap is modeled after a genuine strap--but the fact remains that it looks cheap. It doesn't matter much to me how many people bought it. I strongly doubt Trusty is making the straps; there are lots of different "factories" turning out lots of different fakes. All we are saying is it would be nice to have another option. This does not look absolutely fine:
  21. You paid $538 for two watches. So $538-(dealer costx2)=net gain/loss excluding shipping. If you assume a 40% markup, the loss is $106. If you assume a 60-80+% markup, like I do, there is still a net gain. ($108-$322) So don't shed too many tears for the poor dealer--no one is forcing them to conceal their return address, and who wouldn't eat $100 now and then to prevent bad publicity?
  22. They pass the savings on to you!
  23. Good point. My dealer in Malaysia does put his proper info on the package (to the U.S. anyway), but every parcel I ever received from China has my info printed out neatly and the return info is a garbled scrawl. Chinese companies that offer drop shipping usually specify that they will prevent the final customer from identifying them, to keep them from cutting out the middleman; the return address is usually gibberish. I third the idea of having it sent to a member in the UK and having them forward it to you, WITHOUT any Chinese markings.
