I can't see how asking for a review is somehow shady--obviously it could go either way based on what happened here. And my first thought on seeing the missing threads was that they had been moved, perhaps posted in the wrong section. IMHO if they were moved and not deleted, a lot of derogatory speculation could have been avoided, although admittedly I haven't read the special rules for dealers. As far as suggesting that TWP is sending everybody's watch to GZ for modding, that is going pretty far. I'm a little sick of reading all the attacks on a man who is: 1) Providing the modding services in the first place, in the US, not exactly a crowded market 2) Continuing to do so even though he's had far more than his share of sand kicked in his face 3) Willing to subject his work to public scrutiny 4) Willing to own up to his mistakes and make things right So maybe he isn't an elite, Swiss-trained master--he has obviously done some great work in the past and I'm confident he will ship great work in the future. Speaking from personal experience, sadly I was not born with my father's skill with a brush nor my mother's talent as a sculptor, but I have spent countless hours laboring under a microscope coating a .05mm titanium lattice with a polymer/solvent goo from a syringe the breadth of a hair, sometimes to have it inspected and declared flawless and sometimes I missed a tiny bubble or a miniscule gap and it gets tossed in the trash. I have spent whole nights reconstructing missing sections of centuries-old scrollwork with a dremel, and have gone to bed fully satisfied with my work, only to wake up and see at a glance that I screwed up some nuance in the pattern and the whole thing must be done over. Meticulous, intense work is just like that sometimes--you can be proud of something when you first finish it but when fresh eyes see it it's just not the same. I applaud his efforts, I do not make a habit of making apologies for people, but this kind of work gets better the more you do it.

I just wish the lume lasted longer than I did on prom night. The UPO is one of the few watches that I never get tired of gazing at. Also, the power reserve is a little weak, I really need a winder since I don't want to be unscrewing the crown too much.

Why is Jesus's birth celebrated on Dec 25th?
doc savage replied to DemonSlayer's topic in The looney bin
Crap--OK I meant South Park gave a fairly complete summary of the history or the Mormon church. Back to the date thing, you are completely correct about the different calendars, that's why the Orthodox church observes on Jan. 18th and the Armenian Church observes Jan. 6th. It's still generally accepted that the date was moved back by the Roman Catholic church but this move was not shared by other Christian groups. Sorry, I could probably research this better but I'm a little busy, this is just from memory. -

South Park summed that up pretty nicely. The date Christmas is celebrated was actually moved by the Roman Catholic church from January to December to compete/coincide with the aforementioned pagan holiday, which is why some orthodox churches (Greek, Armenian) still observe Christmas in January. The original date in January was a sort of "best guess". -
Cool watch, but I don't know if it's the "ultimate sniper's tool", you'd look pretty silly if you tried to snipe someone with a wristwatch. Nice touch though, using a watch made specifically for snipers for the movie's sharpshooter.

The price seems a bit much. But hey, it's 1:1, right? My order from Silix cleared customs, so I guess I'll find out tomorrow if it's good enough.

OK, so the buyer got hosed in this auction. I was able to get in touch with them when they left feedback, and today I got this response: So what do I tell this poor guy? What kind of options does he have, if the seller refuses to take responsibility?

It isn't like piracy has gotten LESS popular....

There are a lot of budget versions of this watch. The GEN: The REPS: It looks like the reps are stuck with the minute hand centered with the crown, so they play around with the dial layout to make it work. Even with the huge flaws, it does have a working jump hour function, and it's not a bad looking watch.

I take that back, I thought it was the "generic style" box not the rep boxset. In theory, there is nothing special about that price since both basic Asian movement watches and rep boxsets are dirt cheap at the source. As far as getting what you pay for, that's not really true. There are always plenty of dealers willing to give you the same stuff for a higher price. *EDIT--OK, I take it back again about the box, the ad states that it's an extra 20 GBP for the Omega boxset. Also, r11co is right about the strap, it won't fit.

So what are you ordering/planning to order?

On CQout tonyxkf sells this blue Heritage with the weird crown for about $70 shipped: It's on his site for $169 along with this more decent-looking black one: -
That looks like the 41mm version.

OK guy, who's going to jump on the grenade?

Speaking of actors that Ian Fleming actually recommended to be the movie version of Bond, there were three:

I can't wait to see Be Kind Rewind--I loved Eternal Sunshine, and The Science of Sleep is one of my all-time favorites. Recently: Dan in Real Life--cute American Psycho--overrated Black Book--great Darjeeling Limited--need to watch it again, I loved it but I am heavily biased towards Wes Anderson, I didn't read any reviews so I could watch it fresh, and the Steve Murray cameo was just CRUEL. I think it would have been an order of magnitude better with FAR more Bill and FAR less Owen, how many scenes can you have of him being a lovable misfit, honestly people. James Bond Marathon--well, as a kid I only caught The Living Daylights and of course the Brosnan Follies, so I've been catching up. Thoughts so far: Sean Connery was a pretty cool mofo back in the day, but what the frig was that fuzzy blue thing he was wearing in Goldfinger? I was not prepared for that.

I've seen some low-budget Heritages on the auction sites, but I don't think they're very accurate. From what I remember they used the crown from the BCE for some reason; I'll look it up again myself since that watch has been growing on me. Anyway, I just checked my tracking numers, and it looks like I'll start getting parcels next week! -
That's pretty darn nice. I bought a quartz Rolex back when they used to sell them in Times Square, in '93 or '94. From what I remember it was all matte stainless with a rounded click bezel and green dot indices, as far as I know pure 100% fantasy. It still fooled most of the kids at my high school somehow, we mostly wearing Swatches at the time.

OK, I admit they probably wear fake Timex. But the Carrot is PERFECT for this guy, Scott "The Gator" Alexander, Britain's vainest man:

The promgoing Oopma Loompas were good, but if you want orange... The Gotti virus seems to have spread to Hungarian club kiddies.

Unfortunately, they have quite an enclave in Rhode Island for some reason, and North Jersey of course. It really has to be seen in person to be believed.

Do you mean these douchebags?

I'm honored, really! I'll be going for the Miami souvenir, since I've never been South of Georgia. Plus, I love Dexter, Scarface, and Miami Vice. So Victoria, what's the real story behind the photo, hmmm? What has the lovely lady said to our bottle-blonde hero?

While I was in my "research phase" I hardly ever saw a watch I didn't want to order. I need to be a lot more picky now though, if I am ever going to dethrone the mighty UPO from my wrist. My Fiddy is out for a re- relume, and the big Omega is in charge 'till it gets back. So right now, I'm waiting for: Rubber strap, 45mm PO dial, and Bond lighter from Jay A whole bunch of shiny toys from Bobo (cufflinks, keychains, and pens) And a TON of fashion reps from this wholesale "guy" my old boss knows in Guangzhou. (jeans, shirts, sunglasses, ties, polos, underwear, scarves, belts, and the infamous Hublot box) Oh, almost forgot. I scored a dubious vintage watch from fleabay... more on this later. I still want: An Ice Bang, but I think I will have to try one on before I order it. A Bond Sub on NATO--maybe I would never wear it but as a fan I feel it's a must-have. Some kinda blue Omega. I wish the Big Size came in blue, I would be all over that. -
If you want to flip Karen over your shoulder, vault over the fence, and make a bare-assed getaway, turn to page 7. To wait and see what happens and maybe write a letter to Penthouse one day, turn to page 12.

"Tom's 'excitement' quickly faded as he heard the telltale crunch of the minivan's tires on the gravel driveway. His pants, upstairs, seemed a million miles away. Karen's smile grew broader as she tightened her grip...."
