freddy333 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 However, prior to the upgrade, the slowness was mostly confined to the time it took to open/refresh the main index pages, while posting was relatively quick. But, now, for the past 2 days, just the opposite seems to be the case - index pages open within 10 or so seconds, but it is taking upwards of 30 seconds before a full reply page opens.
offshore Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 @Freddy, I do think it is a matter of what combination hardware/operating system/browser combo you run. I'm not at all technical, but do try to use newer things. Have 2- 3 month old hardware, running Win 7 (release agent) and Chrome browser. Lightning fast! Have had 2 occasions only in the last days when I had maybe a 10-15 second lag opening reply windows. And had 1 instance when a page loaded very slowly, but I suspect it was a photo on that page, as the rest of the page loaded way quicker than this one photo. Hope this helps. Offshore
KB Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 As OS states try running on Chrome, the forum is as quick as I have seen it on my Chrome. Ken
b16a2 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I can't seem to log in directly, if I go to the forums home page which shows GD, Sales Section etc.. it crashes, so I have to open my messenger and then press New Posts to see what's being discussed
offshore Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 @b16, What browser? If it is IE6.... either update, or try Chrome or Firefox. This has previously fixed problems such as you are having. O/S
b16a2 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 I have IE...not sure which version though. The computer recently did some upgrading to the latest IE, but not sure which one that is. It has some new smart address bar that searches automatically as you type etc...? I may try Firefox, I have heard good things about that!!
docblackrock Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Nope Freddy, slow and clunky as hell on Safari 4. Suppose that's my fault for being....what was it T called us Mac users?.....oh yes, that's right "Apple fanboys". Hmmm.
b16a2 Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Offshore, thanks for the tips. Just installed Firefox and it's working like a well oiled machine Anyone having difficulty I would fully recommend Firefox web browser!
TeeJay Posted July 29, 2009 Report Posted July 29, 2009 Nope Freddy, slow and clunky as hell on Safari 4. Suppose that's my fault for being....what was it T called us Mac users?.....oh yes, that's right "Apple fanboys". Hmmm. I'm running Safari 4, on a download which makes Vista emulate OS X. The forum loads pretty quick for me...
freddy333 Posted July 30, 2009 Author Report Posted July 30, 2009 Same experience from 3 PCs, each running a different OS & the latest versions of multiple browsers (Firefox, IE & Opera). Since the delays are page-dependent (& only occur on RWG), I doubt it they are related to my connections.
dluddy Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Weird Freddie. I'm fine here on IE, Chrome and Firefox

siesta181 Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Sloth slow on my IE. Worse still... page fails to open and the whole browser hangs.
phaedo Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Slower than it used to be I think, but then I had no issues with slow loading before.
Admin Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Nope Freddy, slow and clunky as hell on Safari 4. Suppose that's my fault for being....what was it T called us Mac users?.....oh yes, that's right "Apple fanboys". Hmmm. Now, now, Doc...let's not take things out of context here. Smiley is missing and as a general advice given in the thread where I posted this, I suggest people to try both Mac and PC and decide what is best for them. Now if you excuse me, I will have to go back to adding some more code that will make the site even slower for you
r11co Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 Apart from not being able to get past the login page at all initially, I'm noticing a massive speed increase since the upgrade. Massive as in I now can actually use the forum again instead of getting every second page timing out....
slickdick Posted July 30, 2009 Report Posted July 30, 2009 There is an easy sign on the bottom of the page which shows the time it took for the server to put out the page for your brownser to download. I get times varying around 0,3 seconds which is not lighting but faster then average. Unless this time is >1 the server/website is not the issue.
