vlydog Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Thought this might be fun: I am surrounded by so many well-informed members with keen eyes that this might be too easy... Snapped this photo at dinner this evening with a cell phone.
HauteHippie Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Well there's really not enough detail to say with certainty... But I'm going with rep and rep.
Jkay Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Well Im just a freakin newb but the guy in the jacket could drive a bus thru the gaps between the end links and the lugs of his watch. Also, hard to tell in the phone camera but the pearl on the left seems a lot better than the one on the right.
ShawnBeever Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Detail is a bit poor, but I will stick my neck out and say the one on the left is gen and the one on the right is a rep.
hexagram Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I would say left is rep, right is gen. Both look great in my opinion.
ammandel Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 One on the right looks gen to me. I'd even go as far as to say it looks like it has the gen 'finish' and shine.
apowers Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I think it's simply impossible to tell with such pictures. Proof is : the given answers.
ubiquitous Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Look at the details, folks. The hands, the markers (shape, finish, lume color)... Bezel teeth, etc. Fit, finish and the fine details. Speaking of details; someone's watch is either 5 minutes fast or 5 minutes slow
smc Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Well, the pic doesn't make it easy but I'm going to say gen left, rep right. Go figure.
watcher Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I would say left is a gen watch but a few years old. Not sure on the right watch but the crown looks too big and has end link gaps but the lustre is that of a gen so not 100% sure on that one.
ubiquitous Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Where are all the guys that claim to be able to spot a rep from 10ft away?
freddy333 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Detail is a bit poor, but I will stick my neck out and say the one on the left is gen and the one on the right is a rep. Ditto.
HauteHippie Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I initially said rep and rep... But if either one is gen, it's the left. The reason I said rep initially for the left one is that I think the date font is slightly too large, similar to the date wheel overlay used on the noobmariner. So maybe a rep with some gen parts. Again, though, hard to tell. These things have gotten very good over the years!!
vlydog Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 OK, I guess it is due time that I chime in. Left is the gen; purchased about eight years ago. It belongs to a friend
Pugwash Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Where are all the guys that claim to be able to spot a rep from 10ft away? I'm right here.
reganecr Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 the pearl is a dead giveaway lol ive spent hours looking at pearls
Pugwash Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 Actually, as long as I control the lighting, I can tell an unmodded rep Sub from a gen at well over 10 feet.
vlydog Posted August 26, 2009 Author Report Posted August 26, 2009 the pearl is a dead giveaway lol ive spent hours looking at pearls ..but my WM9 have a genuine insert?
