BuyersRemorse
Hey folks, I wanted to ask you if there is any dial that is not yet available for reps, or any dial that has some obvious fault, that the community would seriously want to be redone? I am asking because today I received my new tampon printing machine including UV lamp and equipment to create the clichés. I also already got a simple 2D CNC miling machine so creating (miling) and printing/stamping a dial should be as easy as 1-2-3. Is there anything I could do for the community, something that is totally in demand, because creating such a cliché for just one piece is senseless. I am working non-profit Cheers

szvwj
It's very generous of you to offer your services. With those tools, it would seem that you could make some awesome dials!
freddy333
If you can you do these (including the deeply set, engine-turned (concentric circles) subdials), I think you may be very busy?
Toadtorrent
I have no idea what that means or what kind of machine you are talking about, but it sounds good. I love the dials Freddy wants...but where do you source the right fonts??? That seems to be one of the biggest difficulties. AND, for what movements for the spacing?? Cool offer...love this forum and the talents on it!
ocram
To me it sounds like a PAM-Machine :-)
Ronin
Would love to see the capabilities and examples from this machine. I would actually make some homebrew 'my own brand' dials. Thanks!
dadog13
To me it sounds like a PAM-Machine :-) I agree with the statement above and would add just word VINTAGE in front of PAM-Machine bring on some nice vintage Panerai dials... jmb
With the CNC mill it should be possible to do Freddy's sub-dials as long as the leadscrews have 0 back-lash!!! I'm pumped...
BuyersRemorse
Hey thanks for the Feedback. If you don't know what machine I am talking about, check out this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDCBJKI0pw0&feature=related. They are printing on a Toy-Truck, but its the same procedure for dials. The Vintage Daytona Dial looks Intresting: The Dial form itself should be no problem, my simple $300 2Axis-CNC Machine can do this, including the recessed chronos. As for the Fonts, that might be tough. The pictures look as if those dials were Handwritten :-)

praetor
That machine in the video would cost you thousands of dollars. is this what you're refering to?

freddy333
I believe the dials for many 1950s & 1960s Rolex watches were made via the pad printing method. Of course, sourcing the correct fonts would be imperative.
praetor
sourcing the correct fonts? you'd just need high res scans and a lot of work to draw it in vectors... like mine here. an MKIII
BuyersRemorse
@preator: Yes it's such thing like in your video ... Just a little bit bigger and "automatic". However, as long as the Clich
BuyersRemorse
@upland: This brown radomir dial, it's not printed at all right? Is it just engraved? I think that could be simply laser-engraved (i am about to bid on a small laser engraving machine as well) :-)
praetor
you do know that you could outsource cliche making right? just claim you're a dial refinisher.
BuyersRemorse
@preator: Yes, that might be possible. But my wife is a photographer ... No problem to make a film from the vector graphic, expose the cliché, and then etch it. I just asked her, she can do 2400 dpi (instead of 600dpi from my laser printer). I think that should be fine enough :-) As to the brown dial. Don't you think that nice little toy here (Laser Engraver for 618 Bucks) will do it? I always wanted to have one. Ronin
What format do you require? Is it driven off of a vector image, or other data file, or do you need to manually do something?
BuyersRemorse
Best would be a vector graphic, but I think any other format will do it as well ... main thing is that its high quality and more than 2400 dpi. That will be put on a film with 2400 dpi, then i will create the cliché by first exposing the blank cliché and then etching it. That's it. Then just applying the colors to the cliché, and then we just stamp the dial in a manner of seconds :-)
