Fresh new shiny bits that I can't bring myself to open

A good friend of mine had recently helped me procure this little gem; nice, new and never before fitted to a watch.

This was to be fitted to my SS 1803, which is currently wearing a worn, slightly stretched and notched 78360:

But somehow, I just can't bring myself to cut that little container open. The moment I crack that lid, the bracelet will never be as pristine or as virgin as it is now in it's time capsule...

Maybe I'll just leave it be and store it away for when I really need to break it open :) Or is that crazy talk?

Crack that sucker open!

All these years it's been cramped in there waiting for the rumored day when The Master comes. The legend says "Lo there will be a great shaking, and a great crashing sound. And He shall peer from on High upon the Chosen One, which shall be giddy with anticipation. And it shall come to pass that great scissors, the Holy Shears of Ubidom, shall release the Chosen One from its constraints and Lo, it shall be free. And there shall be great rejoicing in the land."

How can you NOT open it now?? :o

Nanuq, you make me laugh so hard I spill my morning coffee. How do you always come up with this witty stuff? I'm just too dull...

Whatever you do: Don't let Nanuq within two states of that shiny new strand of stainless steel!!! :Jumpy:

Val.

That DD definitely deserves the pristine bracelet, it's a stunning watch, and I suspect that photos don't come close to capturing the appearance the dial has to the naked eye :good: That watch inspired another of my 'drawing board' projects. I've found a site which can provide the same bracelet/case configuration, with a date-only white dial with the same minute markings as on the DD, but only labeled 'Date' rather than DateJust. In terms of modifications, all I'll be doing is matte-spraying the dial, but I'm hoping for positive results :)

Seriously Nanuq - you crack me up. "And it shall come to pass that great scissors, the Holy Shears of Ubidom, shall release the Chosen One from its constraints..." Best line ever!

@Ubi - How rare is that bad boy? I am kind of in need for one for my dad's GMT Master ('68 vintage)...

Video? Live feed of The Opening?

Where's Geraldo?!

...Geraldo... LOL... He's still providing live coverage of Al Capone's vault, I thought?

db- The bracelet is a 78360 w/558s. The 78360 is not exactly a rare bracelet per se; they've gone up in price for vintage examples but new examples like the one pictured here are available via the AD channel. Just bring your watch in and the dealer can order one based on the s/n and presentation of the physical watch in hand. Though becareful- Some ADs will tell you that the watch has to go to an RSC for verification and fitting, at which point you can expect them to start trying to upsell you on a service for the watch, replacement parts here and there, etc. Essentially they are going to try and milk you for all it's worth.

Got it, I thought this one may be something different than the AD route.
