dutchguy2 Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 ...... Hell yes! I just repaced the MBW crystal with a gen 127. What a difference. So much more clarity. I tried a Clark 127 a few weeks back but my watch lost its WR. So I did put back the original MBW it came with. It was ok but having a 1665 and a PN Daytone with both gen crystals there was just something wrong with the 1680. This post would be worthless without any pictures, so here we go: With MBW crystal With gen 127 I'm sure my pictures will not show what I see and feel after the change but believe me it is worth much more than a gen crystal costs.
Cats Posted August 4, 2011 Report Posted August 4, 2011 There is only one simple answer to that question. YES For all the plastic crystals it's a YES , original crystals are much clearer as already said. Wear it well Dutchguy Carpe Diem Cats
Gabus Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 I have a MBW 5513 with a gen crystal, it looks way better with the gen.
redwatch Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 Looks amazing! Good call and worth every penny in my opinion!
Mapman57 Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 WOW and yes it can be seen in the pictures....nice one
dutchguy2 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Report Posted August 5, 2011 Yes gents, I totally agree with you. IMO the best upgrade you can make to a vintage Rollie.
Usil Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 Pictures clearly show the difference. Good shots. Usil
FROGMAN Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 I've been going back and forth with this same issue....the clark I have installed is decent but DAMN that gen 127 looks amazing.
dutchguy2 Posted August 5, 2011 Author Report Posted August 5, 2011 I've been going back and forth with this same issue....the clark I have installed is decent but DAMN that gen 127 looks amazing. Do it, you wont regret it.
woof* Posted August 5, 2011 Report Posted August 5, 2011 Those look great guys! My 5512 with gen T19 and with a Clark T19 I believe As I've said before..you need to see the change in person to get the full effect.
blix Posted August 6, 2011 Report Posted August 6, 2011 Depends. If you're building a 'NOS' watch that represents a new watch than I would say HELL YES. If you'll be aging the lot, to make it look old, dirty and beaten up (scratched crystal, not so great polishing) than I wouldn't bother with it myself (based on normal going rates for T19/39 and the 125/127).
dutchguy2 Posted August 6, 2011 Author Report Posted August 6, 2011 Yep, that is true. In my case I went for the "just back from RSC" look.
mashk Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 ...... Hell yes! I just repaced the MBW crystal with a gen 127. What a difference. So much more clarity. Thanks With gen 127 I'm sure my pictures will not show what I see and feel after the change but believe me it is worth much more than a gen crystal costs.
dutchguy2 Posted August 7, 2011 Author Report Posted August 7, 2011 The crystal was purchased of ebay. Here is some more 1680 *orn with gen crystal and gen insert.
vlydog Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 my 1680 with gen 127 You are right! Your new purchase makes all the difference.
dutchguy2 Posted August 7, 2011 Author Report Posted August 7, 2011 Vlydog, is it a MBW based Franken? Gen crystal, gen insert, gen movement or at least gen date wheel?
vlydog Posted August 7, 2011 Report Posted August 7, 2011 Vlydog, is it a MBW based Franken? Gen crystal, gen insert, gen movement or at least gen date wheel? no MBW parts all gen parts with the exception of the extremely accurate mid-case
