What do you guys think? Too dark?

A tad dark around the dial, yes, and yet there are harsh/blown reflections around the case and bracelet. So tough to get it just right... I don't yet have what I'd consider a suitable macro lightbox either. I've experimented with all sorts of contraptions, and still haven't come close to the diffuse yet well lit shots TTK produces. I'm going to try to locate some Acrylite DF locally (link) and see how that goes. My light source itself is also highly questionable. Perhaps I ought to just stop tinkering and go with something like this kit: link. I'm not a macro photographer, and now I know why. :) It brings a real appreciation to the hobby though.

Well to be honest Randy I was just stunned to see that there is in fact an end to that marble bench :bleh:

Source, as in single source?

Currently using two 250W halogen work lights positioned on either side. Shooting a gray card and doing a custom white balance. I'm not getting enough diffusion with things like tupperware, tissue paper, bed sheets, etc - still getting blown areas which you never see in TTK's shots. I think it's a combination of the diffusion material and the light source(s). I'm thinking that lower powered light, better diffusion and longer shutter times might help. But, still, any polished/mirror SS finish is awfully tough. Hell even matte finishes are no walk in the park. :)

Hahahaha!!! Yea.... I, too, thought it was an endless granite counter of some sort. ;)

I use anything between 2x12w spot and 3x60w spot. It seems to work ok for me; maybe you have too much light.

Haha... Yes, there is an end to the granite.

Personally, I use the following set up:

Studio in a Box

Just put the light 'tent' and lights on the granite and shoot.

For my camera... I have a 4yr old Canon Powershot A70. It's beat, and has seen better days, but it still performs decent, considering.

One of these days...

When I grow up...

I'm gonna be able to...

Take "Granite" shots like Randy...

But until then...

This is the best I can do...

Natural light with no light box...

Metal Shots...
