I've done a search here, and lots of good info on building a 6542.

But, nothing recent regarding updates, so here is my question:

What case do you recommend for a 6542 build?

Andrew and Josh have vintage subs (no crown guards) that look good.

Raffles-time has some no CG sub cases (I think they are sterile), but they use a larger dial (29mm).

Suggestions?

I used the Silix case, the same one freddy333 made his Phase 1 from. Someone said they are changed now, but I don't know that.

One of these ROLS 163 - ROLS176 http://www.silix-prime.co/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=115_158_226&sort=20a&page=3

I am currently working on a case from Hong Kong that looks very much like the Rafflestime one, and I believe to be the same 'Tiger' case. It needs a few mods, thinning and beveling of the case and the bezel. But looks good to me. Here is the case with mods and engraving, but the bezel wasn't done yet.

Rafflestime also has the 6mm Brevet '+' crown if you go that way. It needs some mods too, but well worth the time.

Joey B is the resident expert and there was a thread on this a few weeks ago- maybe a month now.

Silix has the Rols176 case- no CG's and decent coin edge bezel. It comes as a 1680 like watch, but you trash that part- the movement and dial anyway.

Freddy and Joey used it for their builds.

Try searching Rolex 6542 and see what you get

I'd say freddy333 is the resident expert, his was the inspiration and he helped me build mine. Helping others is in his tradition, so I'm jus' payin' what I owe!

IMHO: The Puretime case is a good way to start and it comes with the proper numbers on the case, an acceptable movement with roulette date wheel and a fairly decent stretch-rivet bracelet.

Here is a comparison shot with a gen case (on top):

The bezel is from NDT, which is a bit expensive, but JoeyB has a great alternative for the insert ... :)

So all you really need to do is shave that wokky rehaut?

It takes a gen sized dial then?

Thanks

Yes. I have tried both the gen and the InGod dial and they both fit

Donerix...do you have pictures of the finished one from the Puretime case?

Does the NDT bezel fit the Puretime case?

Yes, sometimes it needs a little sanding of the crystal retainer ring, but it depends more on the crystal you are using.

Only be sure that NDT sends you the right bezel. I have received 3 different types already (the one on the pic, one that has a much more pointed shape and one that looked more like 6538 bezel).

Here is a photo of a big crown Silix explorer that I have worked on. Bought it a couple of months ago. No wooky rehaute...
