vlydog Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 Hello RWG What would be the most accurate crown for a 77/78 vintage 6263? 702? Thanks
janeto72 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 i keep hearing different things...twinlock 702....than triplock 703.....i belive around late 1975 daytonas started switching over to the 703....but hey....who am i one to say?
freddy333 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 It would have left the factory with a 24-700, but, today, RSCs would replace it with a 703/704. 2
wiesn089 Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 I think 77/78 will already have triplock crowns, only very early 70s models were issued with twinlocks. Generally speaking I would expect all versions with red Daytona printing to have triplock crowns installed (74/75).
alligoat Posted June 5, 2012 Report Posted June 5, 2012 I think the 77/78 era was a 702 crown and tube. Page 157 in "Rolex Daytona-a legend is born" refers to a 701 triplock crown in 1972 and by 1977 it refers to a 702 crown. Around 1982 a 703 is used. Prior to 1972 would have been the 700 twinlock. This is all on pages 156-159 of the book. 1

danielv2000 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 So I imagine its quite possible that a 6239/6241 would be sporting a 703 crown.
freddy333 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Unless installed by an indy watchmaker, a 6239/6241 (non-Oyster) Daytona would always be fitted with a 6mm Twinlock crown. I believe Triplocks only began to appear on later, Oyster models like the 6263/6265.
danielv2000 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Unless installed by an indy watchmaker, a 6239/6241 (non-Oyster) Daytona would always be fitted with a 6mm Twinlock crown. I believe Triplocks only began to appear on later, Oyster models like the 6263/6265. But it's not unreasonable that a service would have placed a 703 on a 6239/6241. I'm trying to gather the final parts to my PN...
freddy333 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Because Triplocks were never spec'd for non-Oyster Daytonas, Rolex would never install 1 (until/unless, at some point in the future, Twinlocks become unavailable).
danielv2000 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 So my best bet is a 702... Going to get pricey.
lhooq Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 So my best bet is a 702... Going to get pricey. Are you saying that you plan to install a 702 on a 6239/6241? If so, then that's wrong. You won't see a 7mm crown between pump pushers.
flex Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 yeah i agree. always a 6mm crown (twinlock 600) for 6239/6241
danielv2000 Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 I understand. I just can't seem to find a 6mm Twinlock. I recall a year or two ago, I had a Spinmaster 6239. I can't recall what he put on there as a gen crown. I have to imagine it was triplock.
Akira Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 (edited) I understand. I just can't seem to find a 6mm Twinlock. Something like this? Edited January 3, 2013 by Akira
