Watch is off to the Zigmeister for some modding.

Other than the dial and caseback, what else do you guys see as a way of improving the watch? I like the dial as is and after seeing a NOS caseback on a 1665 Omani dial over at VRF Passion pics, I'll stick to my NOS look!!

Update: I sent the watch off to The Zigmeister for the drilling. His opinion is that, as the metal is extremely hard, drilling the HEV is risky and not worth the risk of a complete tear-down of the case. Given the price of the watch and the cost of replacement gen parts, I don't want to risk anything!

My question is this: is there an optical mod to do here? I've seen some trick mods where the HEV looks installed but its just the illusion!

If you have a drill press, cobalt bits & some oil, you can drill an He valve without much trouble. Read this.

It just may be a particular procedure Zig is uncomfortable with. There is always some risk, but with proper tools it can be done as Freddy says.

There are modders out there that can do it for you.

While the dial is relumed, make sure to do the same lume color fill inside the pearl, or even slightly darker.

The Zigmeister did the same thing on my 1665, he made a "faux" valve which didn't require drilling all the way through the case.

I personally wouldnt be too concerned about a functioning valve. I do like the idea of drilling it out part way and making a better looking valve though.. those MBW fake valves are terrible. Thats the one mod I havent done to mine yet. Now that summer is over and the hotrods are parked for the winter, its time to play with the watches again.

Daniel, that's how the very old MBWs were built. The one in the photo was from 1997-ish, and a very very good piece. It now lives in the EU. So when you see an ad for a "vintage MBW", look it over closely. It's a good bet.
