danielv2000
I've sent emails to both Phong and Yuki. Hopefully, they get back to me Monday. $100 from Phong sounds awesome. Thanks for the tip, Woof!

danielv2000
Watch is off to the Zigmeister for some modding. Other than the dial and caseback, what else do you guys see as a way of improving the watch? I like the dial as is and after seeing a NOS caseback on a 1665 Omani dial over at VRF Passion pics, I'll stick to my NOS look!!
danielv2000
Update: I sent the watch off to The Zigmeister for the drilling. His opinion is that, as the metal is extremely hard, drilling the HEV is risky and not worth the risk of a complete tear-down of the case. Given the price of the watch and the cost of replacement gen parts, I don't want to risk anything! My question is this: is there an optical mod to do here? I've seen some trick mods where the HEV looks installed but its just the illusion! Help please!!
freddy333
If you have a drill press, cobalt bits & some oil, you can drill an He valve without much trouble. Read this.
woof*
It just may be a particular procedure Zig is uncomfortable with. There is always some risk, but with proper tools it can be done as Freddy says. There are modders out there that can do it for you.
FxrAndy
Have a look in my sig where I drilled an plugged the the case to make it look like a he valve
Nanuq
what else do you guys see as a way of improving the watch? While the dial is relumed, make sure to do the same lume color fill inside the pearl, or even slightly darker.
panerai153
Have a look in my sig where I drilled an plugged the the case to make it look like a he valve The Zigmeister did the same thing on my 1665, he made a "faux" valve which didn't require drilling all the way through the case. Dizzy
I personally wouldnt be too concerned about a functioning valve. I do like the idea of drilling it out part way and making a better looking valve though.. those MBW fake valves are terrible. Thats the one mod I havent done to mine yet. Now that summer is over and the hotrods are parked for the winter, its time to play with the watches again.
Nanuq
those MBW fake valves are terrible. Which one is gen? Or are BOTH gen?

danielv2000
Front is gen, rear is MBW. Nanuq, what's the story with the MBW HEV?
Nanuq
Daniel, that's how the very old MBWs were built. The one in the photo was from 1997-ish, and a very very good piece. It now lives in the EU. So when you see an ad for a "vintage MBW", look it over closely. It's a good bet.

Nanuq
Yes, it was almost bone stock in those photos.
danielv2000
I'm going to try to copy that shot. I have a few of these MBWs - 2 look alright, 1not so much. On your pic, it looks better than alright!!
