I got all the parts I need for my 16520 build...and then started at it.

Pushers, tube, crown, bezel, and crystal...easy stuff.

Then I got the datewheel off of the El Primo. Piece of cake!

Rotor: No problem!

...then I started pulling the bridge.

...and now I'm officially in over my head.

Looking good so far. I like to see the beginning to my next watch ;)

Good luck with the build.

20min later...I learn that I'm good at pulling things apart.

Got to the parts I need to switch out. Now I need to find the directions so I can get humpty back together again.

I picked the wrong watch to learn on!

I'm actually doing better than I thought I would. I found that same diagram. Not exactly easy to follow, but better than nothing.

I'm putting it away for the night. Clear head in the AM.

Your doing a much better job than I could, bugger that   :)  you got balls mate !

I hope you are pulling our leg :). Cousins has a good break down/ librication chart of the Zenith 400 on their site. Are you cleaning/ reoiling the movement or just taking it apart. If you are just taking it apart, you may run into issues later down the road because the original oil will not be where it needs to be. I would recommend having it serviced since this is a high beat movement and can cause a lot of wear and tear if not properly lubricated. I appreciate the enthusiasm but don't want you to have issues later on. Congrats on the build!!!

Yeah, I know it'll be worth it in the end, I'm just really wishing I could find better assembly instructions. I KNOW I'm going to get everything together, and find one little wheel that is left.

Posted

Last night, I was just reassembling, but thought about it, and am going to start over and lube everything too. I've got all the tools in hand, time to learn how to use them!

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

I plan on taking dozens of pics and maybe have a video camera recording everything too so I can refer to that when I'm reassembling.

Hopefully after a dozen or so times it'll become second nature.

I admire your tenacity and bravery!!! Probably not the easiest movement to start out on, but if you can put this one back together correctly and properly lubed, then everything else is going to be a downhill slide. Good luck with the build.

What ballz he had... :Jumpy:

Good luck, you are much braver than I!!!  I started out by ruining a half dozen a21js!

Yeah, and a brave man that knows when he's in over his head.

I'm boxing it up to send to someone with a little more experience than me. I could see myself ruining a $1,200 movement with $800 in conversion parts if I'm not careful.

Man U are brave. I sure wouldn't try that myself. Going to be a sweet movement when you get it finished!
