civic4982 Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 As stated. I've been trying some of the dealers like yuki but I can't seem to find anyone that has them. The ones I see are all correct for DRSD only (as is the one I currently have) I think MBW was the only case set that has it
Valty Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 MQ's are the best aftermarket solution ...but they are 70% of the price of a used service gen :-)
civic4982 Posted November 17, 2013 Author Report Posted November 17, 2013 Yikes! I didn't know MQ offered them.I'll go check out his site. The other option is just to get a blank back and have it engraved custom.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
civic4982 Posted November 17, 2013 Author Report Posted November 17, 2013 are there any cheaper options than MQ or Phong for GWSD casebacks? I can't find one on yuki's site. Would love to know who deals in MBW nowadays to maybe source one from there.
MacTavish Posted November 18, 2013 Report Posted November 18, 2013 Narikaa can source MBW on request, if I'm not wrong... for the whole case instead, who can provide (at a reasonable price) the best 1665 or 1680 set? I saw frequently "MBW old school" but what is different from the "actual"?
freddy333 Posted November 18, 2013 Report Posted November 18, 2013 I do not have my original MBW caseback anymore, but I recall the main problems were the shape/size of the crown & location of the dot between the T in PATENT & the E in VALVE (it is not evenly spaced on the MBW & most reps). If you were to draw a circular line that followed the top horizontal line of each letter, it should run directly through the center of the dot. This is the way it should look
alt.watch.obsessive Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Hi Freddy, Is this style case back ever correct for a GW or just DRSD? Cheers.
alligoat Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Yes, Freddy's caseback is correct for the DRSD, which he has. Here's the correct caseback for the GWSD
civic4982 Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 Ty guys. So much great vintage Rolex knowledge here. I will message narikaa
Nanuq Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Not to confuse things any further, but there is also a Transitional 1665 caseback, on the right in this pic. It's similar to the Triple Six caseback without the angular raised center section.
civic4982 Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 Thanks again for the tips guys. Got Narikaa to put it on his radar for his next trip.
dbane883 Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Not a fan of the MBW dials. You should buy the ND 1665 dial I have for sale.
civic4982 Posted November 22, 2013 Author Report Posted November 22, 2013 Not a fan of the MBW dials. You should buy the ND 1665 dial I have for sale. Actually looking for the caseback not the dial.
Valty Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 Not to confuse things any further, but there is also a Transitional 1665 caseback, on the right in this pic. It's similar to the Triple Six caseback without the angular raised center section. This is service case back I believe :-) this is also the cheaper gen option, I don't think they were replicated ... I don't seen that on "original" watches so I think it's service only
Valty Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 Yep service only. Not so easy to digg out though I found 2 at a decent price on eBay few months ago… But I agree, it's not easy to find 1665 case backs nowadays
civic4982 Posted March 10, 2014 Author Report Posted March 10, 2014 So the good news is I received a GWSD styled caseback with the correct engravings from Narikaa. The unfortunate news is that this caseback appears to have an incorrect diameter and won't screw into my case The outer diameter on the threads is 31mm where as mine appears to be 30.5mm. Really dissappointed For some reason I just assumed that these 1665 style casebacks were universal in their fitment ....... A new thread for my new problem: http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/168081-different-sizes-for-rolex-1665-seadweller-caseback/
sneed12 Posted March 10, 2014 Report Posted March 10, 2014 These are reps, sadly there is no such thing as universal fitment and there is no consistent numbering / labeling of parts (since everything carries fake gen markings). The only way to ever know for sure is to try. Pretty much every modder I know of ends up with giant boxes full of parts that don't fit. I know I have...
DC109 Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Civic, if you're only interested in the GWSD then forgive what might seem like a silly suggestion, but maybe you could put in a DRSD dial, then source a complete GWSD separately?
