They are truly the perfect candidate to make a first series Explorer 1 case. All 3 elements have been re-engine turned here : caseback, mid case and bezel. Inside runs a ETA, held by a custom made brass holder for a perfect mount ! Cheers !!!! 1

Unfortunately I don't have that equipment. I have old machine tools that do the job as well ! The one I used here is a sort of sanding treadmill, and the case is held by a custom made wood clamp.

I am thinking about this since I made my 1016 build based on the JMB case set, last year. It would be great to see pictures of the process or the tools Maybe JMB might be able to do something like this lug mod on request in near future?!
lhooq Posted May 5, 2014 Report Posted May 5, 2014 Fantastic work, lovely dial, and the reshaping improves the build immensely! My one tip would be to shorten the pivots of your springbars, so that they don't poke out of the holes and more closely resemble the gen #23-9293.

I re-milled an old brass movement mount to get it to fit in the case without a micron loose so nothing will ever move when you push back the stem after setting the hour. No big deal here ! If you ae looking for brass mounts, you can get some from raffles.

It's the best for that price range.

Pretty much every out-of-the-box rep 1016 (from cartel to MBK offerings--and even Yuki's 1016 case!) are based on an inaccurately-replicated Datejust case. A Tropic 22 will be an unacceptably loose fit and rattle around the outer lip of the rehaut. The best you can do is a Tropic 19, but be prepared to spend a bit of time bringing the height down.

Indeed. I use Epoxy Steel (not jeweler's epoxy). It is grey in color, and hardens like metal. It is used to repair car engines ! Once hardened, you can shape it to tune up some details. Perfect for a loose bezel or crystal !!! But once dry if applied on a well prepared surface : forget about removing it !!! Manufacturer is Cord Chemicals. made in the Philippines. Maybe can you find it on the net.

Thanks for the WSO 580 info RJ! Now if I could just find that pair of 580 ends that I've had for 3-4 years. Another crystal that might work for a DJ type case is the T-29- it equates to the 135 crystal used on the 16000 DJs.
