glight2000 Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 I just picked up a TC v6 in M2M with a genuine insert. The insert keeps popping out--not falling out, but it's loose. I tried going around it with a superfine and soft nail file to get it to fit, but the darn thing won't snap in in one place. I'd appreciate your guidance on how to proceed before I resort to a tiny toothpick dab of superglue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
dbane883 Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 You overdid it on that portion of the insert. To be frank, you ruined it. Of course it won't snap in now. As stubborn as it might be, I honestly don't believe a gen insert requires any filing to fit into a TC bezel. But my sample size of experience with TCs is limited to two.
Mike on a bike Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 No problem so far w/ gen insert in mine.
glight2000 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) There's always one small section like that, not specific to the location of the insert. 50 is shown. I can get 50 snapped in, but then another section will be out. I can get 85% snapped in--it's always the last 15% that's out. Edited June 10, 2014 by glight2000
glight2000 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 The nail file was soft like tissue and I only made 2 rotations to take off potential snags. I could always get in about 85% of the insert--just not the last 15%.
pam007 Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 this happened to me too. I would get 90% but the 10% gave me trouble. I took it to my watchmaker and he pressed it with some contraption and charged me $10. Done.
glight2000 Posted June 10, 2014 Author Report Posted June 10, 2014 Thanks Pam. I may give that a shot.
sputim Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 If you are not able to press it in by hand you need a press. Probably your best choice, as already mentioned, bring it to a watchsmith (repfriendly of course) and let him do it and you won't have any further problems. Cheers
alligoat Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 I'm still using that $15 press from Harbor Freight. I install the bezel first and then press on the insert.

kbh Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 If you're going to use a press, make sure the die only hits the outside edge of the insert. Otherwise you'll just flatten it and make it worse. I would get it 85% in and then turn it over and roll the last bit in on a hard surface like a desk. That's the correct way.
alligoat Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 Really? Is this it ? http://www.harborfreight.com/watch-case-press-with-nylon-dies-91621.html That's the one. Pressed on a DJ smooth bezel a couple of days ago- it was very tight but the press held up!
kbh Posted June 10, 2014 Report Posted June 10, 2014 That's the same one I've got. It's pretty good for light duty like popping crystals in and out, putting on press on case backs and pressing on DJ bezels. I made a slot in the DJ die for the cyclops to sit in.
glight2000 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Report Posted June 11, 2014 Thank you all for the helpful info. I'm glad I'm not the on Y one with the problem!
Nanuq Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Something else to consider... think of the insert not as a flat piece of metal, but as a segment of a cone. As the cone becomes less flat and more pointy, its outer diameter at its base becomes smaller. You can use that to your advantage. Try pressing the insert down over the neck of a bottle and you can deform it into more of a conical shape, and it will snap right in. Work with the angle of the cone and the ease of its fit until you get it where you want it.
glight2000 Posted June 15, 2014 Author Report Posted June 15, 2014 Thank you, Nanuq. That's a helpful conceptualization.
baldballs Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 Omg I did mine today. I thought it would never snap in!
Engelsione Posted June 20, 2014 Report Posted June 20, 2014 I wish I can get a gen Insert for the DSSD ceramic Noob newest 2014 version
Champagnesky Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 Have the same problem. Skickas från min iPhone via Tapatalk
