I lumed over the Yuki lume. The lume mix I use somewhat masks the original dial lume but still glows. This would be period correct for mid 60's tritium dials as those dials still glow due to the phosphorus content used in those days. If this were a '70's dial, I most likely would have painted the lume plots first with an opaque flat white prior to luming. Removing the existing lume is not an option. Frankly not worth my while. The Yuki lume is a white resin. it's very very difficult to scrape off. It can be done but I would charge too much for that process which would result in very little additional visual benefit. It's a rep dial... Be as cost efficient as possible. A gen dial is a easy future upgrade if/when a reasonably priced one pops up. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Beat it up with a wire brush, took the polish off the sides. Then finished with synthetic 000 steel wool. WSO 580 end links seem to fit the best with a little sanding. Soaked her in bike lube and mineral oil and.... I think this will work nicely until I find a gen. In all honesty for $75 and 5 hours of labor it looks and feels great. I got 5512 and 5513 cases (one each) from Yuki a few months back with random serial numbers and the 5512 is 290xxxx (around 1970) while the 5513 is 551xxxx (around 1978). This worked out Ok (luck of the draw) because the 1570 for the 5512 is a no hack and the 1520 for the 5513 is a hack. I was going to put them in genuine AK and 1002 cases with Yuki explorer dials but extra nice genuine cases cost about as much now as Yuki cases. I was going to use MKB cases but the trouble I had putting a 1520 in an MBK 5513 case broke me from trying it again and this is why I got the Yuki cases. I've just had my spider dial 5513 land in my lap before xmas so I am feeling the vintage buzz too atm. can I ask how you sanded the 580 endlinks? I bought gen 580 endlinks for my 93150 and they just don't fit quite right in the MBW case, which ever way I try to move the springbars they don't expose both sides of the springbar nib to the edge of the lug if you understand my meaning. I was thinking of sanding the 580s on the curve to make them fit closer, 501bs make the sprinbars look fine but are the wrong size. Anyway congrats again, the rivet bracelet is awesome, would love one for mine as I love the clasp but its not period correct for the spider dial. I used my dremel with a synthetic fine pad on the curve and the sides. Very lightly then test fit, then repeat until I liked the fit. I took too much off one set, so glad I had ordered 3 sets of WSO 580's. With genuine end links, I would probably use 1200 wet/dry and do it by hand. One thing to bugger up a set of $25 end links, another thing to mess up a genuine set. We have different cases though so not sure how much that matters for the fit. The end links was an easy fix, the hardest part was modifying the bracelet ends to take the 2mm bars without taking too much metal and ruining the bracelet. Sourced a gen nos 700 crown and tube still in packaging so she went back to dbane for installation and while she was there he did his amazing bevels as well. He sent me these pics today. Ofrei has them at a very reasonable price and I think that some have said here that their source is the same that Rolex gets their replacement acrylics from.
