cc33 Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 I think they did a good job with the Ivory dial version. Too bad it's 22k! http://www.ablogtowatch.com/project-x-custom-rolex-daytona-paul-newman-tribute-colorful-variants/ 1
lionsandtigers Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 decent job on the dial and the crown/pushers (no cg's) the bezel is pretty horrible. may have not looked so cartoonish had they used an ss one instead. but that thick black ring, no bueno
cc33 Posted April 24, 2015 Author Report Posted April 24, 2015 Lol, well it's not perfect but it caught my eye.
dieselpower Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 Nice to see we're not the only people making reps.
Mike on a bike Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 Well I like it, but not to worry I ain't buying it!
gemballa Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 This was the only one that I thought looked OK out of the lot but that bezel is just humongous!!
lionsandtigers Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 its not that the bezel is big, its the in black ring on the dial that makes the dial seem small in comparison. they did a good job on the dial but the measurements are off, so it looks unbalanced and cheap. and as @dbane883 said, no lugholes, pass.
highoeyazmuhudee Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 i saw it and liked it, setting crown looks a little awkward though
esco Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 Agree -- bezel is way too thick! Wish it was thinner, a sure buy if it was!
theblueprince Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 Quite a few of the aftermarket gen modders are doing these now. They all look terrible.

Its huge, look at how much space there is on the outer edge around the tachymetric scale.
lionsandtigers Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 Its huge, look at how much space there is on the outer edge around the tachymetric scale. well its a composite. thats not a real bezel, its just overlayed on the image. real one may have proper scaled fonts. who cares, no lugholes
blue. Posted April 25, 2015 Report Posted April 25, 2015 Thanks for sharing otherwise interesting project. I have respect for the work done as these jobs are not easy at all. There are very rare occasions where the homage of whatever is better than the original. Would stick with the first Paul Newman that was produced, rather than the gen modification to honour the PN. The newer Daytonas go along with the new Rolex philosophy and proportions. This is strongly present in the shown Project X, that bezel is off in the proportions. The overall case diameter is too big. But a rather thin bezel would not look right either on this mod case. The gap between the crystal and case outline is huge.
panerai153 Posted April 25, 2015 Report Posted April 25, 2015 Actually, while I much prefer the vintage Daytonas, this is the first of all the modern Daytonas that I could live with.By and large I find almost all of the modern Daytonas pretty terrible.
StormTooper4 Posted April 26, 2015 Report Posted April 26, 2015 That bezel does look a tad out of proportion , but it the dial indices that really spoil it for me.
meadowsweet_ Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Oof, I'm with storm trooper. Nevermind the bezel insert, those modern Daytona indices kill it for me. Always disliked them
Chuck P Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 In total honesty, I vastly prefer my DW over this.
pcardoza Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 Like it ok, but 40mm is just too small for my taste.
