Nanuq Posted July 13, 2016 Report Posted July 13, 2016 Tonight I decided I couldn't tolerate the bogus "figure eight" end midlink any more. It's the only wart on Mary's otherwise-perfect 7836 folded band. Here's the offending piece (women and men of weak disposition look away!) I had a bit of trouble along the way... But in the end it was Man +1 and Steel -0. What do you think? Mo' beddah? Now, you might ask where I got that lovely sacrificial midlink to cobble in there? Look no further than Yuki's folded riveted Oyster. That little piece right there. Et voilá 1
Legend Posted July 13, 2016 Report Posted July 13, 2016 OK B, congrats! The Jubilee band is on its lonesome and harrowing flight to Anchorage now though. 1 1
Nanuq Posted July 13, 2016 Author Report Posted July 13, 2016 Soon I'll have a nearly unlimited pantheon of band choices! This is like Christmas!
automatico Posted July 13, 2016 Report Posted July 13, 2016 "Now, you might ask where I got that lovely sacrificial midlink to cobble in there?" I keep a lookout for them on used bracelets of all kinds at yard sales and flea markets. Sometimes you can snag a bracelet with them for $3 or so. 1
nick1972 Posted July 13, 2016 Report Posted July 13, 2016 Good job Nanuq! Mary's bracelet is actually very good, early gmt's have the 8 figure endlinks and the weird clasp link like the bracelet from Mary.
gasebah Posted May 2, 2017 Report Posted May 2, 2017 I know this post is quite old, but I recently ordered one of Mary's bracelets for my 7032 and don't use it because I cannot tolerate the last midlink. I wear the homeplate on a solid link bracelet now which many gen owners do to prevent the precious 7836 from wear. It also gives the watch more substance IMHO. But nevertheless I would like to try that out. Any tips how to easily remove the bogus figure 8 midlink? Looks troublesome at first glance.
automatico Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Many after market/replica oyster style bracelets have suitable hollow round top end links so maybe you can find one. That is what I did. You can remove the figure 8 links by spreading them apart carefully so they will come off the bracelet.
Nanuq Posted May 3, 2017 Author Report Posted May 3, 2017 Carefully? Forget that, this is a one way trip baby. Get those suckers OFF there, they ain't going back on again.
Sogeha Posted May 3, 2017 Report Posted May 3, 2017 Nanuq' s watch shop and careful in the same thread??? How things change, ten months ago - who's Mary? Now she is a TD and we can all buy bracelets or indeed watches through the forum.
