i just read some of phobands post. yes, indeed, steve jobs is an [censored]. he once asked an employee if he know who he was, and the employee didnt, and steve said 'i'm steve jobs, and you just lost yours!'

and also (please dont be offended by this) i think its funny that you are a jew and have a law degree, reminds me somewhat of an entourage quote: "We already have legal documents drawn up by Simon, Schuester and three other Jewish names i can't remember."

Sorry about that. I don't like being told what I am and am not by someone that doesn't know me.

How about a change in tack? What Blackberry features will be missed in passing to the iPhone from a Blackberry? The only one I can see missing is push groupware calendaring, and I'm not even sure that actually works on the Blackberry.

I didn't realise you need a lot of MS Exchange Enterprise features to work behind a bar.

(I, however, spend a lot of time in bars and run a MS Exchange Enterprise server or three)

what the [censored] is this supposed to mean? who talked about ms exchange servers? I dont even need a blackberry! plus, most of the time I dont 'work' behind the bar, I manage the lounge bar.

but lets keep it real, you work at home, you dont travel from city to city everyday and you dont have 20 meetings a day. those are the kind of people that have and NEED their blackberry. and they wont switch to the iphone, because the iphone is just NOT a blackberry. it does NOT have the blackberry functions.

the iphone is nothing more than a toy, its not for people who are in serious need of an organzier with automatic synching functions

edit: if you can really get those iPhones for 300 bucks, I'd be in. But I'd like to see some pictures first.

I'd by the way like to add, that my opinion is the same as Boy Genious':

"Well, don’t forget it’s the first product in this category from Apple it’s priced high so your right everyone and their mother won’t run out and buy one right away, but there will be less expensive models I’m sure and so forth. Corporate? Not so much. That’s where RIM still has some market share."

Pictures mean nothing here, I have pic's and it looks exactly the same as the iphone on the first page of this thread, it's what's inside that counts and I have this being looked at very closely and will inform everyone once I am happy it is in fact a very good copy.

No, I meant pictures as a confirmation that he actually has the phone on hand and that it doesnt have some sort of gameboy inside :D

I've seen this already, consoles that looked like a PSP from the outside, but were some gameboy from the inside

Ok, I'm going to try not to say bad things about you personally, because that isn't nice. However, your post is so full of errors, I simply have to correct you.

1: MS Exchange servers. This is what you use to manage blackberries. You run Blackberry Enterprise Server as an MS Exchange Server plugin. Having a Blackberry and all the business features means you uae an Exchange server.

2: I have a day job with meetings and everything. I also freelance in the evenings and weekends, working from home. If I didn't have home-office email/calendars with me when I was at work, this would be difficult to manage.

3: What blackberry features does the iPhone not have? It has push email, calendar syncing, contact management, etc. I can't think what features are missing that you think would be a deal breaker.

The one feature that may end up getting the iPhone blocked in some corporate environments, ironically, is the camera. There are still several fortune 500 companies that have a global ban on phones with cameras.

I'd by the way like to add, that my opinion is the same as Boy Genious':

Even to the point that he says the iPhone is "Game Over" for the competitors?

I say it again, the iPhone DOES NOT REPLACE A GOOD BLACKBERRY ORGANZIER. Period

humm i am all to familiar with an office of several hundred attorneys who are married to their crackberry - and the most popular question I have heard is how/when/if they can swich to the iphone as a replacement.

Actually since it is synching with iCal & address book it will be a serious organizer.

I didnt say bad things about you. And I doubt you can say anything bad about me, cause you dont know me personally, and so do I not know you personally :winkiss:

Possibly, I dont know? I have a life, and I dont care for things that I dont use ;)

2: I have a day job with meetings and everything. I also freelance in the evenings and weekends, working from home. If I didn't have home-office email/calendars with me when I was at work, this would be difficult to manage.

I never said you dont, I just said you are not the kind of guy that travels from city to city everyday. The Blackberry is something for ppl who are out of the house all the time and need to have their office 'on hand'. Even though I manage a bar only, I have meetings, too. But I dont need a blackberry either, because I think I can keep up with them without one.

3: What blackberry features does the iPhone not have? It has push email, calendar syncing, contact management, etc. I can't think what features are missing that you think would be a deal breaker.
The Push Mail feature is not for the corporate sector. You cant synch anything wirelessly (not even thorugh wlan). The main feature of the blackberry is, that you always have your calendar&mail up to tade, always (without pressing any buttons or putting it into a docking station)! that alows you to be thousands of miles away from home and still have all the meetings from your home computer on the blackberry. And if you update your calendar on the blackberry, your calendar at home will automatically be updated. The iPhone cant do this. And even if it could, I think Blackberry holds patents for this service (or NTP, but blackberry paid almost 1 billion for them), and therefore noone cant just copy the blackberry service.

The one feature that may end up getting the iPhone blocked in some corporate environments, ironically, is the camera. There are still several fortune 500 companies that have a global ban on phones with cameras.

Well, Blackberrys come with cameras, too. Thats not so much it for me. The iPhone is just not something for the corporate secotr (because of the things i've just mentioned), and all other ppl dont buy the iPhone for its calendar or whatsoever.

Apple will definietly grab a LOT of marketshare with FUTURE iPhones (iPhone Nano for example). But this iPhone is not something for the mass market. Its for geeks and freaks who need to have every new toy :)

Yes, if you put it into the DOCKING station at your computer... Thats not what a blackberry is all about.

Any PALM Pilot could do this years ago...!

Hardcore Blackberry users will not migrate to the iPhone. For the majority of the corporate users (med-large corps), it is the ability to sync with their network and the reliability of the group push functions that allow RIM to still dominate the market.

There are many competitors that may have more features and functions, i.e. Moto Q, Palm Treo, the new Samsung Blackjack, etc), but many of these additional features that do not really have much to do with business. They are more geared to the technophiles or the trendy consumer segment. In addition, the BES server is much easier to deploy and manage over a large network than its competitors. (BTW, BES servers can log almost anything done on the phone.....be careful guys.....but very nice for corporations to spy on its employees).

That being said, the iPhone was probably not designed to be marketed to the corporate world, but probably geared toward the consumer market. I believe that Blackberry also saw that the consumers were willing to shell out money for a stylish and trendy phone as shown with their launch of the Blackberry Pearl. The iPhone may eat away at the 8100 series for RIM, but shouldn't make a dent in overall corporate world during its initial launch.

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but with the exception of 2 people, the dozens if not hundreds of other Blackberry users I have met had the unit provided by their respective companies. I highly doubt that these companies would be willing to shell out the extra dough for iPhones.....

Personally, my own Palm Treo takes a backseat to my BB 90% of the week. I like the functions on the Treo, but the BB is much more efficient at getting the job done.

Um ... iCal syncing over WebDAV. This can be done on a Mac laptop today over wifi or Edge/GSM. There is no reason the calendar on the iPhone won't do it out-of-the-box either.

You can sync with shared MS Exchange calendars this way too.

I don't think you actually understand what these 'corporate features' are. I run these services for corporate users on my Exchange servers with the Blackberry BES plugin, and I say that most of what the Blackberry can do (and 100% of what it's actually used for in the real world) can be done on an iPhone. It's my job to know this kind of stuff.

I find the only push feature used religiously by the corporates I work with is the push email. The groupware is mostly handled as if it were a palm, without push calendar/contact syncing being used to the fullness of the patents.

I have read on various sites, that it is NOT possible to synch your iPhone calendar with your computers over edge/wifi - and this was said by ppl who talked to steve and held the phone in their hands.

I dont even want to imagine how much husse this would be. Blackberry has their own servers who do this whole job, do you think anyone would set up his own webdav server just to use the iphone? Comeon, you sound like one of those Apple-disciples that tries do defend everything from apple!

like sailboat said, most ppl get their blackberry from their company, and they (for sure) wont go thorugh extra trouble and pay extra money for the iphone. and those who are their own bos mostly do not have time to go thorugh all this trouble to set up their own webdav server or whatsoever.

Do you actually think that the yahoo push-freemail is a soloution for the corporate sector? I mean, come on! you're a smart guy! it might be alright for consumers, but not for business people

read this:

NOC Architecture: One of the biggest selling points of the BlackBerry is the unique architecture that they offer. In the RIM architecture, they have a Network Operations Center (NOC) which routes all emails to the appropriate device. The advantage to this model is that an IT team does not have to open a hole in their firewall to route messages through. Instead, they simply make an outbound connection to the RIM NOC to route the corporate emails. In all other Push email architectures you need to open a hole in your corporate firewall to allow the device to connect with. In many IT environments (especially government) this is either not allowed or is a very length process to get approved. Getting an outbound connection is typically a much easier thing to get approved (even if it is not necessarily much more secure).

All in all, the iPhone may turn out to the the next smash hit for Apple. From what I see, I may be one of those in line for a pre-order.

Millions of consumers as well as corporate users may dream for the new iphones, but yet I could not see the IT personnel nor senior management giving the go ahead for corporate use. Cost would be only a single part of the equation. Corporations do not hand out these devices for employee satisfaction, but for business purposes.

As mentioned in a previous post, some companies have bans on camera phones. I know that at my own company, they frown at us using our BB for personal e-mail use. Even if Apple were to surpass RIM in creating a better system, I think hell would probably freeze over before management gives us iPhones with MP3, camera, video, plus all those nice features outlined....

Slay - i was concered about your comments on the previous thread, but i couldn't tell if you were trying to be funny or not. However, it appears you have issues relating to jewish persons. You may even think you don't. But, you do. If you want to educate yourself as to your own biases then i encourage that. I can recomend this organization http://www.adl.org/. However, as i did with whomever the other person was who was over the line i am sorry to say that i have added you to my blocked list.

Pugs - i can't remember who is arguing what at this point - But - for those of us who travel often having your secretary and or other appointment maker have instant access to the calender and be able to ad and change things on the fly is critical. Meeting invites

basically, i couldn't live without push email and push calendar. i totally organize my life by it. If i don't make notes on my calender, it doesn't get done.

And - i have to say, the new blackjack has those features and high speed datat -its very very impressive. I wouldn't trade in even if i could do without the push services, i wouldn't trade in the high speed

Now - walking around with one before they come out - that is a different story :)- Ken cha chem

racist attitude? i dont need YOU to tell me what kind if attitude i have, definitely I'm not a [censored]in racist. You seem to have some sort of problem when it comes to funny things. I dont need all this "you are warned!!!" bs from YOU. My comment was neither racist nor offensive. if you think otherwise, you have a sensitivity problem or you just need a reason to pick on me. It's no different from calling it funny when a jewish person is a lawyer than when a german wears lederhosen. Whenever Johny said this quote Entourage, NOONE called him a [censored]in racist, because it is NOT [censored]IN RACIST. If I had posted a picture of me wearing lederhosen, and ANYONE would have been like "funny that you are german" - NO that would NOT have been racists in your opinion. First, because it was about me (and YOU dont give a rats ass what anyone says about me), and second because it's NOT racist.

I got the feeling you just need SOMETHING to pick on me, and I wont give you that in the future.

That being said, I'm outta here. See you in porn hell.

@phoband: if you find this offensive and racist, please do me a favor, and block all your tv programs except bible tv (and especially HBO, because that's where Entourage airs and also Comedy Central!). and please, do not under all circumstance, watch borat. okay, this movie was actually made by a jew, still, do not watch it!
