docblackrock Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Sometimes there's just something about a classic design
b16a2 Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Beautiful, I really need to get me one of those!
P4GTR Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Nanuq what did that watch ever do to you? I agree the SS black sub is classic beauty.
docblackrock Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 Nanuq what did that watch ever do to you? That's just his eccentric way of showing love, it's called Nanuq's Patented Vintagisation
tonyp1 Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) Nanuq what did that watch ever do to you? I agree the SS black sub is classic beauty. LOL, I believe thats the stance that Das Rolex Forum takes on reps!! Edited May 31, 2007 by tonyp1
By-Tor Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) I've owned many black Subs, but I only have one ETA Noobmariner left. Great rep of a great watch. Edited May 31, 2007 by By-Tor
P4GTR Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 we do love our photography around here. Beautiful shots, By-Tor.

OiRogers Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Wait... I missed something (perhaps in my self imposed absence from about December to around a week and half ago...) When in the heck did an ETA noobmariner become available?... You mean I've had my wrist go "Swish-swish-swish...etc... ad nauseum" for no reason? Please enlighten this Born Again Noob where one can acquire such a thing as an ETA NoobMariner? If its as simple as a movement swap I'm there, but I didn't think the ETA fit the Noobmariner case of Neil offerings.. (the only Noobmariner I have)
Antonio Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Am I the only one here without a Sub? My SD seems to make me awfully happy, tho. Either way, beautiful watch!
Pugwash Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Here's my cheap Asian Noobmariner: (Click for 1280 version)
Stephane Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Oh yes they are classics. A Sub, or a SeaDweller, and you feel better
elprimerozen Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 Ooooh yes!The classics! Noobmariner Swiss ETA,Noobmariner 21j,TW with gen insert and noobmariner bracelet!
docblackrock Posted June 1, 2007 Author Report Posted June 1, 2007 Hey, who/what you guys calling a Noob? Ain't nothin' 'noob' about me or the old girl *edit* Another pic but this time there's a slight difference (I know, APART from the white balance Pug )......can anyone spot it?
HighDef Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 NANUQ <noun>, (na-nook), Native American for "Polar Bear" NANUQIZE <verb>, (na-nook-eyes), meaning to do this to a watch.
HighDef Posted June 3, 2007 Report Posted June 3, 2007 I agree with you folks, there is something in this basic sub, this watch is still has the most wrist time of all my watches.
docblackrock Posted June 4, 2007 Author Report Posted June 4, 2007 What, no-one can spot the swapout between my first and last pics??? Or maybe no-one cares? Maybe I should take it as a compliment, since it's a slight but noticeable difference if you know what you're looking at. Look again
docblackrock Posted June 4, 2007 Author Report Posted June 4, 2007 New pearl? Bingo! Keen eye freddy. Can't beat the genuine article for that je ne sais quoi look That said, IMO the most accurate mod in this case was a special rouge polish job to the case and bracelet, now much shinier close to gen.
freddy333 Posted June 4, 2007 Report Posted June 4, 2007 I think the pearl helps to complete the picture. The old pearl was the only thing that did not appear to sparkle like a new Sub. I prefer vintage Subs, but I have to say that your modern one is quite a head turner.

To be honest, it's remained unworn and in the dark for this reason for a long long time, almost embarrassed to show itself next to my gorgeous 1665. Colour-wise the gen pearl was a very close match to the exisiting generic pearl on there, but yes, the 'sparkle' was the big difference. I remedied it to some extent using THIS (borrowed from my ever-understanding GF ) which added a nice lustre to the surface - 95% there I'd say but still didn't quite match the reflective qualities of the gen pearl shown below.
