Guest avitt Posted January 20, 2008 Report Share Posted January 20, 2008 I've envisioned modding my Hamilton Khaki Navy GMT ever since buying it on eBay a couple of years ago. For some reason, I just thought this watch would look great with a stealthy, tactical look. So I went on a quest to find a PVD coating service, AR for the crystal, and a new set of hands. Along the way, I discovered Amorphous Diamond-Like Carbon (ADLC), a remarkable alternative to PVD.. I went with Chieftang for the AR, and I'll tell you that his new coating is everything they say, and more! It has rendered my polarizing filter obsolete. For hands, I looked at Bill Yao's selection, but couldn't find anything with exactly the right size and look. I ended up going with a set that I already owned - Perhaps the nicest hands I've ever seen...Do you recognize them? I've always touted Hamilton as an excellent value in watches. You can find Eta 2893 and 7750 based Hammies for little more than the price of a rep. In my opinion, they make excellent stock for modifications like this. Hamilton has got some good bang for the buck already without these mods, but the AR and ADLC really puts it to another level! Absolutely nice watch. The ADLC looks much better than most PVD which i think is often too black and the Chief AR coating suits the watch perfect. Somehow you managed to give a $600,- watch the looks of a $3,000,- watch... i am amazed and impressed. PS. hands are from the Omega SMP black..? The biggest impact for me is the change of hands. gen with white on white was good, this is JUST BEST. I am amazed how much diff a little bit of red on the dial makes..
