mrandazzo Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I mean....the ROLEX LOGO on the dial! LOOK AT IT!!!! It looks like some CN crappy dial! Maybe they are laughing at rep factory... Rolex: "Oh, LOL! I would like to see what they chinese will do this time with this crappy logo and the wokky rehaut!"
_brian_ Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I mean....the ROLEX LOGO on the dial! LOOK AT IT!!!! It looks like some CN crappy dial! Maybe they are laughing at rep factory... Rolex: "Oh, LOL! I would like to see what they chinese will do this time with this crappy logo and the wokky rehaut!" Well, first time in history there is a chance that the rep version of a watch will actually be better than the gen...
freddy333 Posted July 23, 2008 Author Report Posted July 23, 2008 Opinions (here & on TZ) appear to be very mixed on this model, but the waiting lists at many ADs are already beginning to approach Daytona-like in their numbers (& expected wait times). I already have a space reserved in 1 of my cases for a decent rep of the SDDS to gather dust in.
geestyleed Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Normally I am a Rolex fanboy, but this? This one is the first Rolex I dont like....luckily you still have the possibilty to buy an old SD...
Guest carlsbadrolex Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 I sure wish I could figure out how these are being released... I guess I will wait, wait, wait. Regardless of what others think, I like it and shall pay the extremely high price to own one. My hope is that enough people will bad mouth it and Rolex will discontinue it after 1 year. Then in 20 years when my kid graduates college, I can give it to him and it will be worth a [censored] pile of money!
lazarini Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 man why does it look so ... how to say it weird ?! laz
perry563 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Rehaut looks like a wok, crappy pearl and very thin rehaut thickness...YES I smell a near perfect rep first time out! LOL
alt.watch.obsessive Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Looks fine to me. I don't know why folks are acting like Rolies just got ugly in the last year. Does this replace the SD or is it essnetially another model along with the regular SD?
docblackrock Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 My hope is that enough people will bad mouth it and Rolex will discontinue it after 1 year. Then in 20 years when my kid graduates college, I can give it to him and it will be worth a [censored] pile of money! My own thoughts exactly The likes of the Explorer II and Milgauss were awful sellers but that scarcity has boosted their collectability and value to astronomical levels. As for the DeepSea, you know I actually quite like it - elements like the domed crystal, thicker case, Ti caseback, blue lume (nice!) are welcome, but the words 'ring lock system' could have been improved upon. I mean if you have to have huge point text on the front of your tool watch at least have it say something that doesn't sound like a sanitary installation.
Guest carlsbadrolex Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 If your comment concerning the pearl is based on the rather odd focus and the ring around the outside, it appears that the bezel protector has a circle cut out of it where the pearl is. It also appears that the hole in the bezel protector is slightly off center. The pearl is fine...
geo1nah2a Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 This is replacing the SD. The current SD is already appreciating in price... The pearl is under the bezel protection and this is why it looks funny. The bracelet is in a sharp angle and that probably makes it less proportionate to the case.
docblackrock Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 That aside, for a serious heavy duty divers' watch from the luxury end of the market, you still can't beat the venerable Heuer Aquagraph - the DeepSea doesn't come close IMO.
docblackrock Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 Another trick they missed was to give it a ceramic bezel insert but without the embossed/engraved indices that looks so good on the 116710 GMT.
TK471 Posted July 23, 2008 Report Posted July 23, 2008 There are certain elements that I like, but I really, really dislike the "Ring Lock System" writing on the inner bezel or rehaut, whatever it is. Rolex, haven't you spent enough in advertising? Why make the watch a bulletin board, as well???
Stephane Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 I'm sure my 16600 will increase its value a lot in the next ten years!
guanaco Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Hey kids! The new Rolex Clown Dweller is out! Have fun sporting a big joke on your wrists! ...
dieselpower Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Overall look - too 'busy'. All that unnecessary writing. What happened to the old adage - keep it simple?
guanaco Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 No kidding, they 'killed' the clean, sleek look of the Sea-Dweller with that POS. I wouldn't buy that thing, EVER! What the hell is Rolex smoking these days? Crack?
guanaco Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Normally I am a Rolex fanboy, but this? This one is the first Rolex I dont like....luckily you still have the possibilty to buy an old SD... This will be the second one you'll learn to hate:
