polexpete Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Brought an Asian movement version of Chris Euromariner LV but gave it a complete overhaul... spec are: - Euromariner case - Swiss eta 2836-2 movement with noob datewheel - Gen LV dial - Clarks hands - Gen tube and crown - Ofrei 295c crystal - aftermarket bezel insert with more accurate colour and pearl - hollowlink bracelet with re-worked SEL's and clasp There's alot of talk about which is best the Euromariner or the WM9. Well i haven't handled a WM9 but i'm pretty happy with the quality of this case and of course Chris' service is second to none. Cheers for looking P.
mrandazzo Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Pete, your frankens are always great! Fantastic! Can we have a lume shot? I'm wondering how good the aftermarket hands are... Thanks!
bertieng Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Wow, excellent LV. Where did you get the gen. LV dial? Been searching for ages. Cheers.
lazarini Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Lovely, the maxi dials are growing on me fast... i cant say same for the green bezel insert do Nevertheless a splendid Franken LV. Thanks for sharing. Laz
Dizzy Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 i really like the maxi dial better than the reg sub dial.. just not a fan of the LV green insert.. but this one is very nice. excellent work!!
bertieng Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 The Clark's hands are supposed for the gen. movement or they actually have the ETA version?
By-Tor Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 That's a beauty. Maybe the best LV's I've seen. Congrats! PS: WM9 and Euro are both possible to modify to superb condition... your watch proves it.
Vinguru Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Beautiful watch, wear it in good health!
mrandazzo Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 The Clark's hands are supposed for the gen. movement or they actually have the ETA version? Eta I guess. I'm wondering how good the lume is...
Cats Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 Very nice watch i wish i had the skills to built such a beauty Carpe Diem Cats
vizsladog Posted October 27, 2008 Report Posted October 27, 2008 amazing watch. why did you go with the ofrei crystal instead of clark???
polexpete Posted October 28, 2008 Author Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hi guys, first of all thanks for your comments glad you like it... mrandazzo - the dial has awesome as you'd expect from a gen but hands not so good. I'll post some lume pics tonite. bertieng - Had the gen dial for a while brought on the Bay. Its not perfect and obviously came from a damaged gen. It has a scratch through the bottom font and some of the lume has specks in it, maybe from a water damaged watch. But a rare find, i've only ever seen this one anywhere, i was very lucky. The hands are for a Tudor so fit the 2836 perfectly. vizsladog - I read here that the Ofrei crystal was closer to the gen than the Clark's. I'm pretty happy with it and it fits perfect, in fact it sits lower than original crystal in the Euromariner which i like. I wanted a gen of course but couldn't justify 250 bucks. ouch! Cheers P.
bertieng Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hi P, Thanks for your comments. So the Tudor uses the Fat hands i/o of the Rolex skinny mercede hands?
highoeyazmuhudee Posted October 28, 2008 Report Posted October 28, 2008 a couple things i noticed. maybe it's the angle but the crown gaurds look unevenly shaved. also the dial looks a little skewed more to the right. maybe this is not true in person. still a good project and congrats on doing it yourself. where'd you source that clasp? the noobmariner clasp crown stamping sucks. GEN DIAL... NICE SCORE! did this model have the same bezel insert snap in problems? how you liking the clarks hands? I agree with dizzy, wish rolex made the 50th with a black insert (perhaps ceramic) and the maxi dial. which is WHY i LOVE the 1680 dial.
polexpete Posted October 28, 2008 Author Report Posted October 28, 2008 Hi P, Thanks for your comments. So the Tudor uses the Fat hands i/o of the Rolex skinny mercede hands? Ha! there's a thought... i either get aftermarket hands from Clarks for modern or Classicwatchparts for vintage but found the LV ones in my box of tricks so maybe they're off a rep i had before. Sorry for confusion bertieng... Cheers P.

I agree with dizzy, wish rolex made the 50th with a black insert (perhaps ceramic) and the maxi dial. which is WHY i LOVE the 1680 dial. I only took a little off of the crown guards on the inside front and they look pretty even to me. Also the gen dial tapers off at the edge giving it a rounded look that you never get with a rep dial. I think this is what you see coz the markers are all even under a lupe. The bezel insert had to be glued no snap-in unfortunately. Never seen a gen one for sale, i wish i could get one. The clasp came from Josh's best sub from a couple of years ago, they're best i've seen... cheers for looking P.
