Category 5
Beware gettign a used watch that has gone unserviced for too long...or has possibly been abused. I know myself I could never get by not knowing the history of the watch as far as care is concerned. I'd buy quartz used, but I'd have to really know the guy to get an expensive genuine used. ...and I'll say it again with pics. For the price, this guy makes a fantastic first Gen watch. 7750, and looks that could KILL.

crystalcranium
Used, pristine Moonwatch ...no question. Iconic and I was born in 1960 and watched every televised space launch since 1963.

triplehd
I've been lurking on TZ for any great deals....some Omega SMP - with the electric blue dial for about $1000. However, I did see the Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish XL - very nice. Got outbid on ebay for it though. Who knows - the search continues.
Guest chronomat123
Hmmm Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch (you can get one in excellent shape for $1300ish) Seamaster Pro, but not quite as classic as the Speedy-- seems Omega is always redesigning this watch Rolex Date/ Datejust, you can get a nice ss 90s model with Oyster for a little over your budget. If it were me, I'd get the Speedmaster Pro.
Pugwash
Looks like the MoonWatch is winning, if it's a vote.
