Nicco
I would say it doesn't matter what you choose to do as a career as long as you make the most of life and your health is in tact, money isn't everything, it is however one of the most incredibly inventions in the world but it can't stop you from getting hit by a truck, or becoming termly ill....., one of my family members was diagnosed with cancer last year and underwent major surgery to their stomach removed and was shortly after given the all clear, until a month ago they were diagnosed with cancer again which can't be operated on they are only in her thirties, they have all the money in the world but at the end of the day it mean jack sh*t, so mark my words make the most of life as you sure hell don't know what's around the corner. Sorry to hear about your relative, it's never easy news to get. An ex had a similar situation with her aunt, and that wasn't easy for the family, my thoughts are with you all at this time. nikki6
I got snapped in half backwards through a car in a motorcycle accident about 7 years ago, last couple of years my back has gotten much worse and I started having seizures, I was on HUGE amounts of medication, pretty much all of it opiate based. I was taking 60-70mg of diazipam a day, 100ml of morphine and a load of other pain meds. My main problem was a neuro desease though, my fits got worse and finally I got taken into hospital last year by ambulaance. I had a really bad seizure in the ambulance which carried on into the hospital, about 2 hrs I'd say, when I came too I had no feeling at all down the right side of my body (my right leg was mostly paralysed from the bike accident so was no real change there). I ended up having to stay in a neuro ward in the hospital for about 4 months I think, the week before I was due to get home I had a really brutal seizure, when I came too I was completely blind and have been ever since. This was about 7 or 8 months ago I think, I have had no sight at all since then, not even 'shade sight' where you can tell if its light etc, all I see is black. Since then I have worked real hard trying to change my life around my disabilities, I'm doing ok I think. I managed to get on a course with the Royal National Institute for the Blind ( RNIB ) and they have been teaching me to use a screen reader called Jaws to navigate around the screen, and you can use a computer without ever having to touch a mouse, so I have worked my ass off learning anything and everything I could and now it looks like I might be going back to work in the nexr month or so. Well I really hope to be anyway. So there you go, my wee tale. I still have a pretty good memory for watches and really know what I like, and some of the guys on here like TJ, Hike USA, his Royal Pugwashness, have all been great in being my 'eyes' and helping me out if I like the sound of a watch then they will have a look for me and let me know how it is, but mainly my dad is my 'eyes' and since he is as big an enthusiast as me it all works out great! spider87
@mix, good to have you man! This is definitely a great place to hang out!! Enjoy your stay! And my tip to all noobs if you buy a watch from a dealer DO NOT FILE A PAYPAL DISPUTE until after you've talked to the dealer (In the rare case of something going wrong that is) 95% of the time the dealer will right the problem! phaedo
Oh yeah, me, I'm a trader. I own a private equity hedge fund which primarly trades specialzed derivative based return enhancement strategies for institutional clients (investment banks and larger hedge funds). I also have a software company that develops automated trading systems, risk management systems, and productivity tools again for larger funds, institutions, and money managers. And no, we are not down from these markets as that question always seems to come these days. Times are great. We trade many volatility keyed strategies and as such had a record year in 2008 for many of our asset classes for absolute returns. Great times for traders, the worst for investors... Pretty much where I wanted to be 2 years ago Robbie, although problems of getting into the business to start with, then trying to trade on my own with not enough capital and getting into the wrong trades when I did trade... took a long position on one stock a year ago; the options expired worthless - worse luck they basically tanked a week after I got into the trade, dropped 50% of their value in the last few months but are back to where they were. Timing is everything. Every trade I looked at just went the exact opposite way to what I thought it would do, so got frustrated, have hardly even looked at the market in the last 4 months. One day I will get back into it though. Preferably while sitting on a beach with some form of alcoholic drink with a straw in it.
