Just picture this: me walking into the store and one after another tilting their heads. Goodness. Do they have to be so exaggerated? I was very uncomfortable to be honest. It looks as if they are judging if it is worth their time serving you.... which they are. That's the unfortunate thing about watch shopping in general, regardless of where you live. It's the same story over here in Hong Kong. They use it somewhat as an indicator if you are serious about buying watches. It's like they want to give you a handjob if you're wearing an AP. Try walking into a high-end watch store with a Casio and see how long it takes for them to ask you how they can help you. Then, try wearing something like an AP and they'll all be on you like stink on [censored]. Same story with luxury boutiques. I went to one Hermes boutique with nothing on the wrists and they think you're invisible. When you wear an Offshore, it's like you're the only person in there. I'm not even joking. Hey, it's something to do and more acceptable than staring at girls. Lots of people with nice watches, women usually DJ's and Cartier Tanks, men Omegas and Rolex DJ's. Not a lot of variety to be honest. Japanese people tend to be brand whores rather than trend setters. I'm sure some people will disagree with me but that's my personal observation. I have seen a couple of truly terrible Daytonas on young guys but I don't pay much mind -- kids will be kids. One time a young woman caught me peering at her wrist and at first she gave me an chilly, annoyed look but then she saw the TT Santos 100 rep I was sporting and her attitude changed 180 degrees, if I didn't know what a come-hither look was before then I know it now. I met a young man in a rock band t-shirt outside of a Mexican restaurant yesterday wearing a Pam 111 on a rubber panerai strap. he was shocked when I asked him if I could see his Panerai. I see several man wearing PAM (genuine, very shape compare with rep) from 196, 88 to 111, JLC, cartier, omega, most rolex DJ and Sub, Anonimo, Cartier and Brietling. I notice one guy wearing rolex explorer 1 with cylops ????, crap omega SMP (bad bezel color) and also bad Sub LV wear by young man. One man honestly tell me that his PAM is fake. I also do it habitually when I watch TV, in fact, I find myself stopping on cooking shows & do-it-yourself shows because you can always get a good look at a guy's watch on those! Incidentally, have you noticed that the CSI-NY Detective "Danny Messer" wears a PAM? (Not sure which model) I hear ya... i spotted a PAM on Joe Torre's wrist while watching a yankee post game show.. .could not make out the model though...he wouldn't keep his &*^( hand still. I had never seen anyone in my city with a Panerai before, and discreetly positioned myself to get a decent look before I mentioned it. I said "is that a Panerai?" His face lit up and he said "wow, you know your watches..." and then told me all about it. Made his day that someone recognized the watch. I got back to my wife at the shopping cart and she said "were you stalking that guy?" no, just noticing a fine timepiece... "you were stalking him, weren't you" "Stalking"? I'm certainly not prepared to call it that. That's way too creepy. I'm glad that I'm in good company and that other people notice wrists too, otherwise I'd start to get some kind of complex. First, it's watch porn, then stalking.... Anyway, why pay ten thousand dollars for a watch (or 300 for a rep of the watch) and expect to go out in public and not turn any heads. deltatahoe Posted August 30, 2006 Report Share Posted August 30, 2006 you know what comforts me? there are people out there that look at wrists just as much as we do, and they have no idea that quality reps of watches like panerai even exist. tonight i was at a bar and was talking to a friend of a friend, who at one point looked down at my wrist (i was wearing my 111h with a molina vintage strap) and immediately blurted out: "holy sh!t, i f@(%ing hate you" -- to which i said (with a smile on my face) -- "you know panerai's?" he proceeded to tell me that he almost plopped down USD$4,500 for a panerai last month at the local AD, at which point i told him to his disbelief that mine was actually a replica. when he looked at it again, asked me how much i paid for it, and when i told him, he was like, "i f@$#ing hate you even more!!!" we have it good fellas -- enjoy it while it lasts (and let's hope that's a little while longer). dt Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No wrist escapes me ever since I set foot on RWG grounds..., it's compulsive! When I first noticed I was doing it with my colleagues, I felt ashamed and embarassed, thinking other colleagues were seeing me doing it and probably wondering why. In my company gen Omegas rule for males and females. In some of the factory parts all light emitting devices are prohibited. So I noticed management all wearing non-lumed watches. My hairdresser (the boss) loves chunky gen's and has Panerai, Rolex and Suunto watches. That's where I first saw that Panerai were that big! I saw him staring at my Tag Link GMT rep ("hmmm, don't know that model, but me likee...!") I'm convinced he has no clue that really good reps could be his w/o visiting Thailand himself. Sadly though, most people in my area wear crappy quartz stuff... the Ironman digital seems to be king. When I was scouting attorneys to draft wills for my wife and myself I found myself totally happy with the third attorney we spoke with... nice Tag auto on the wrist and a nicer Montblanc pen in his pocket. All the other attorneys I spoke with were wearing digitals... Digitals!!!one111!!! For a striking young lady I do the wrist check somewhere amongst the check of other more pertinant assets. I was rather amused, but wondered if this guy was going to end up in hot water with his boss because he was so obvious about his wrist staring. And at the same time I was tempted to clue him in so that he could sport a nice rep himself and cause his high-end clientele to choke when they realized what a great watch their waiter was wearing. I must admit, I have done this most of my life, but really stare after discovering the Rep Forums. Safer than staring at lady's chest and risk getting slapped or beaten...
